Kaiji is totally like that. The author pretty much only writes mind game gambling manga and is well known for it. Gambling is the perfect outlet for that kind of constantly outsmarting and clever tricks you want.
Also I just really want more people to watch Kaiji.
Go watch Kaiji please.

I liked Kaiji but holllllllllllly fucking hell at the filler in it. So much repetition of the same exact thought but in a possibly slightly different way.

So is sleight of hand.

That would involve introducing a foreign object into the bet though. Joseph suddenly revealing that monks from somewhere know how to perfectly keep water still through a certain technique, so there's no way he could lose, is no different from, say, starting fire with dry wood.

Yes, it's magic because it doesn't exist in our universe, but from their point of view there's nothing magical about it.

Ohmyfuckinggod that was the worst arc when it came to the filler. lol

Also if you like Kaiji you'll probably like Akagi. There's only Mahjong so it lacks the variance in games that Kaiji has, but Akagi is just great at outmanipulating everyone.

I watched Akagi about a year ago, I liked that as well.

FluxWave if you end up liking Kaiji then Akagi is by the same author and also worth watching.

I thought that not everyone could learn Hamon, and only certain people had the capacity?

Except that most people in that universe don't use and have never heard of Hamon. D'arby has probably never heard of it even, so if he saw yellow lightning circling the cup while Joseph was playing he would obviously think it was cheating.

I get that Jotaro is the protagonist of part 3, but I still like everybody else more than him (with Avdol being second last).

While Joseph and Polnareff (and sometimes Kakyoin) get into hilarous situations all the time, Jotaro's often really boring to watch in action, except when he's dealing the finishing blows to enemy stand users.

Having watched the OVA a long time ago, I'm really looking forward to next week's episode, since it's the single moment when I actually liked Jotaro (not having watched anything but the OVA and the anime adaptation).

I'm struggling to see what Hamon would do any worth in this anyway, They not even able to hold the glass for the coin sipping.

I don't think there were any rules about holding the glass or not. Obviously no one wanted to touch it because that could cause liquid from its top to drop.

Joseph's an old man going senile. His time has passed.

See here's the thing.

That could still be done even without this shit. Have Jotaro do the second seat. He gets rused. Joseph didn't realize that. Bam, you have the "he's past his prime" thing while still keep his "he's a pretty good eye at things".

Pt 2 jojo has been the best so far, at least, in the context of that part. Havent been sold on Jotaru yet.

stop it

Everyone will soon open their eyes and realize that Jotaro was the best Jojo all along.
Until these two come along:

Lol no. Joseph and part 4 Jojo are still the best.

Wow I can't believe this. We're allowing spoilers like this? Great, now I know there's a part 4 which means Dio can't succeed and eradicate the entire Joestar family tree. Nice fucking manga spoilers. Show ruined.

Seems to be the general reaction to any "spoiler" no matter how minor these days.

Lol you have a point but I understand if people wanna keep future Jojos a surprise.

Fun fact: EmCee's stand gives him the ability to erase spoilers
and the people posting spoilers
from existence.

C'mon guys of course it's not a spoiler to talk about the future JoJos, i only follow the anime but know at least the look of all of them, it's basically forced on you the moment you search a pic on the internet.

Yep, first picture result is of the first 7 part JoJos

Be careful about talking about it, or he'll use his stand 'ERASURE'
('ALWAYS' in the CrunchRoll subs)
to erase you ever talking about it.

I approve of this reference.

Eh I tried keeping it as vague as possible by not mentioning any names or anything like that. If anybody actually has a problem with it I'll edit my post.

Posting a pic of a popular manga character who was created 20 years ago is a spoiler now? okay

I'm fucking around, but I wouldn't be shocked if someone actually took issue with that.

edit: And apparently some people do actually take issue with it. lolllll

Pretty crazy that Star Platinum, the stand that was able to sketch a fly in the background of a Polaroid photograph in perfect detail, didn't notice that chocolate. But it barely matters, because the tension building in this battle is so excellent.

The fights Araki came up with in this part are so much more exciting than the first half of the series.

To be fair, that was mostly Jotaro not realizing D'Arby could plant something BEFORE the game even began. I doubt he was already watching his every move with Star Platinum at that point.

I'm pretty sure that's just Araki's inconsistency at work. There's not really any way round it except to accept that it doesn't really matter.

Except there is. The inspection period was before the game began. Jotaro wasn't expecting a cheat to be done at that time, and so he wasn't watching.

It's not like the chocolate turned invisible after he attached it. It's stuck to a translucent glass. It'd be impossible to notice for any normal person, but Star Platinum's powers of vision go far beyond the normal.

As I said, not a big deal. If Araki were consistent all the time, this arc wouldn't even exist because there'd be no coffin to recover.

hrmm that's actually a solid point. Maybe he was looking at just the players and their hands, and not the glass but even that's a stretch. Ah well.

Jojos has been popular in Europe and Asia for years. I'd say it's only not been popular in America. It's a cultural force in Japan though.

SP doesn't work automatically, Jotaro has to see some place or at least think for something suspicious at that place for SP to check it, he didn't even think about the chocolate as a possibility since it was already placed when he started "searching"

Literally the only thing I dislike about part 3 is that Joseph sort of sucks and Jotaro is too good. I don't think Jotaro has ever lost a fight while Joseph is just a little too airheaded. I enjoy how goofy and panicky he gets, but I feel like he only solved 2 fights Empress and Mariah. Like he's the only one that didn't figure out the sun fight or and he didn't figure out Oingo either. I know he has a weaker stand but I feel like he isn't even utilized well as a leader or tactician. But maybe that happens later idk

Hes not the main character anymore is the thing, He's had his glory already by sending an immortal ultimate being pose-master into space

Alright, this argument keeps coming up, but it's honestly a really bad one. Who cares if he's not the main character anymore? What kind of story has only the main character shine, while the supporting cast are a bunch of underperforming idiots? That's not how it works, especially when you consider characters like Avdol or Kakyoin who that already doesn't apply to.

A few moments of proficiency wouldn't suddenly mean that Part III would become Joseph's show and Jotaro would be relegated to the shadows forever. It would mean that, in a couple of scenes/episode, Jospeh would have the chance to apply his Part II experience to do something worthwhile, which wouldn't be out of the norm when Part III has already devoted attention to several other characters who aren't Jotaro.

So, if Part 4 is confirmed at the end of SC, is it in a "enemy-of-the-week" fashion like Part 3?

Everything past Part 3 is.
Yup. Araki gets better at sprinkling in bits related to the overall plot (plus recurring characters) in later parts unlike part 3. Although for part 3 it doesn't feel anywhere near as barren in the manga compared to the anime, since you can finish a manga chapter faster than you can an anime episode.
