Titanfall - One year later.

Lol. I find it really strange that people were pushing the Titanfall is also on PC angle, only for that fact to be so often forgotten.

And yes it's still alive. Had some fantastic games of CTF last night.

PC was not the ideal platform to play it on, though. Just like Call of Duty.

I'm surprised to hear so many people get killed by the smart pistol.

I surprised as well. It feels like 70% of time I die to a pilot it's someone with the R101-C w/ HCOG.

I guess I could look it up (is it in stats?) but the times I've died to a smart pistol seems very low, just a handful of times in an evening.

Loved the game when it first came out. Bought it day 1 on PC. My excitement faded within a couple weeks though sadly. That said, the maps were great, the movement was on another level compared to most modern shooters, and netcode I felt was pretty excellent. The hit detection/net code compared to Advanced Warfare....not even close. AW is easily the most disappointing shooter in terms of lag that I've played since the first couple months of Black Ops 1.

I'm hype for the next Titanfall. And I really should install it again and check out the DLC maps.

Is it still alive on Xbox One? Thinking about getting it.

Yep, still a few k players on. Might not sound like much but matchmaking is extremely quick, even in the less populated playlists so you never have to wait more than a couple of seconds to get put into a full lobby most of the time. I don't know what they did for matchmaking but it's some wizardry shit. Even if a playlist has like 20-30 people you can get in a full game nearly instantly.

I r bias and all, but you shouldn't have any trouble getting into a match nowadays. Each playlist also lists the number of people playing in it, too, so you can judge for yourself.

(People often think that the Attrition player count is an "all players playing Titanfall right now" count, when usually that number is at least double. We might add a separate, total count on the display just to make it clear, but it probably doesn't matter too much.)

You should do that.

Also fix the Angel City crash

Awesome thanks! Just picked up (:

It was a fun game, and I really enjoyed the time I spent playing it. I consider it to be among the top FPS's I've ever played (along with Quake 3 Arena, Counterstrike GO, and Left 4 Dead)

Unfortunately, I needed to reclaim the 50+ GB disk space it took, and I haven't had the urge to reinstall it since.

I hope that the sequel will have single player campaign modes, and an offline vs mode with bots. That way, I can familiarize myself with the maps and practice my moves without being dependent on servers being online, and my connection being stable.

None of "long", "insightful", or "well written" implies absolute truth. Marketing is a skill, and people love to sell half-truths to consumers.

Just look at the number of people who believe the made up sales numbers on various web sites just because they know how to market the BS.

I believe they really needed Microsoft's money like I believe Street Fighter V would never exist without Sony's benevolence. IE: Not at all.

Except for the fact that large portions of the article are dedicated to talking candidly about how their founders were starting to unhinge, how both Zampella and West wanted nothing to do with each other, about the inter-office politics, about how much of a disaster the development of the game was in terms of making tangible progress and how EA bet big and sunk tons of money into portions of Titanfall that never went anywhere. It's not sugar coated and if you didn't take account the circumstances the game was made under and see what the final product ended up being, you'd come away thinking Respawn and EA were practically incompetent.

The only people still pushing this "don't believe the conspiracy" bullshit are people who, as far as I can tell, didn't bother reading Final Hours, have no interest in doing so because it doesn't suit the narrative they're spinning and haven't offered any satisfactory evidence that shows otherwise.

I only picked it up the other week, I always thought it looked fun but I don't have an XBONE and it was never cheap enough on PC for me to warrant giving it a go until recently. I appreciate the free DLC as well, but I don't think I have played any of it yet.

Let's just say that I wish I'd bought it a lot earlier, I'm having so much fun with it which is great, because I have been in a bit of a slump lately.

I imagine I will be picking the next one up pronto.

I need to get back to it now that the DLC is free for everyone.

Titanfall is awesome, it's probably my game of the year 2014. It feels fresh, gameplay is tight... its only problem is sometimes matchmaking takes time and the player count imo is low but otherwise, it's great !

It would be nice if respawn cleaned up the playlists a little more often. Now that the DLC is free, maybe add a single variety playlist for the DLC content instead of 3 separate ones. I would love that the most.

Also no one plays marked for death round based, even though its awesome.

It makes sense to have the DLC variety packs up for a little while, I'm sure people that are coming back and downloading their free map packs would rather play their new maps than the base maps. Going forward sure I'd like there to just be one Variety Pack. For whatever reason that playlist isn't as popular as I think it should be.

Played it again yesterday, game has some serious issues with spawns. I got spawn killed multiple times per match, including when I'd spawn in with my Titan. That's my biggest complaint, great game otherwise.

There are more people playing bad company 2 than this game. It isn't dead but it is on life support. Why else would they make the season pass free? It's a shame because it rocks.

I meant on pc. No idea how many people are on 360 and Xbox One. I'm assuming many more.

Not sure I'm buying it. The spawns are pretty safe in this game. I don't know that I've been legitimately spawn killed once. I'd also dispute calling anything that happens after you spawn into your Titan as a spawn kill.

Seems much better compared to COD and Battlefield where it will literally spawn you in an opponent's sights. Though in Battlefield you're often picking your spawn so I suppose you have some responsibility for your fate.

I downloaded the free DLC But have yet to pick up the game. I really want to play it, but I am waiting for a digital deal. The MS store has it for 18 bucks, but that's the physical copy. I Find myself scouring the Internet daily for a digital Titanfall deal. 29.99 on the XB1 store is too pricey.

Supposedly there was an amazing 12.99 deal for the deluxe edition, but I purchased my Xbox One a week or two afterwards. Smh

Titanfall is basically my ideal situation for a completely new property that people should hold up as an example rather than be bitter and cynical about it.

Its exclusivity means that Respawn now holds the keys for the next game. Instead of selling their souls (and IP) to EA or another big publisher, Respawn got the funding they needed for the first game while hanging onto their own IP so they can use it as they see fit for their future.

It sold well enough to guarantee they can do exactly that for the next game.

It was immensely innovative within its genre.

It fucking worked when it released. Its biggest technical issues were some long-ish matchmaking times which were resolved pretty quickly.

They supported it with a lot of free content like significant new modes, progression systems, and major balance improvements.

They've acknowledged that the paid maps which fragmented the community were a bad idea that they don't plan to repeat - and even released all the DLC for free as a token of that goodwill.

Relatively small amount of content? Short progression system? Questionable smart pistol? Small-ish community still playing the game? Totally deserved complaints.

But continuing to hammer on Respawn with bullshit drive-by shitposts? Acting like the game wasn't successful? Complaining about the game in ways that show you really don't understand how it works? (like AI stuff) You're being kind of myopic.

Well that is why I said they should do 1 playlist for DLC only, instead of 3. Not enough people play to populate all 3 playlists, but enough to populate 1 of the three.

Sorry, I misread your post. I guess a single DLC playlist might be ok, but I know plenty of people who got one or two map packs that maybe wouldn't be interested in having maps that are old to them mixed in. I think they should just keep it the way it is for another week or so, then fold the DLC playlists, and move Variety Pack with all maps to the top of the playlists, so everyone stops clicking Attrition out of habit ;)

One year later... well, it is simply one of the best multiplayer experiences published in recent years.

Addicting and fun.

The amount of Smart Pistol salt in this thread is amazing. You guys hate the shotgun too for consistency, right? The real reason it's disgustingly good is because of the ambush potential (almost guaranteed win on ambush) and because it reveals traps, not because it aims for you. Most of the time you ambush a player you should win though. The time-to-kill on the Smart Pistol in a head-to-head is ridiculously bad.

The shotgun on the other hand is much better in head-to-head play. The time-to-kill on it is amazing, and like the Smart Pistol you don't suffer a mobility debuff to aim with it. It's also pretty much guaranteed to kill on ambush. I do think the smart pistol should have a "Player Lock" with an indicator as soon as the first lock-on tick happens though. Nerfs ambush a little, but has no effect in a head-to-head.

It's a gun that aims for you, there is no need for it.

I wanna have a free for all mode, with Titans, or without em. I don't but the whole, it ruins the flow, it is one mode it doesn't change the rest of them game

While I think shotgun could be toned down a bit in rate of fire, it is still a largely fair weapon that requires good aim to do well with.

Smart pistol, on the other hand, just shouldn't exist in the first place regardless of its strength and weaknesses they include with it.

I played the beta and also some amount in the free week on PC (never bought it). I really think it did not create enough of an identity with its on foot shooting (the movement was relatively fine). I had trouble seeing why the on foot guns had iron sights. The snapping animation of the ADS was so fast, and the guns were so accurate, and the chracters moved so much faster than in other games. It seemed out of tune with what you are supposed to be doing in that game... aka being mobile.

Likewise the bots were just in the way... there is no satistifaction in shooting them.

And on PC, that silly tracking pistol was rather absurd. It is one level of easy poting a reticle in the direction of someone whilst using a thumbstick... it is another level of absurd when you have a mouse.

You have to close more distance with a shotgun, whether head-to-head or on an ambush. For this type of game the shotgun has a pretty generous TTK and range in a mid-range face off, but it's not quite "Smart Pistol with Enhanced Targeting" generous.

It is funny seeing so many people complain about the weapon though. Bornstellar mentions that it's banned from competitive, but in the public pool, at least on PC, I rarely see anyone that knows how to use it well and the Carbine is still the One True Godking.

Playing against bots was lame. I got bored of the game after a couple months and I remember the screen tearing was horrible.

It "aims" for you. You have to do most of the aiming though, and you have to be pretty good at aiming if you want to survive any head-to-head with it.

I find that most fighting in Titanfall occurs in close range or long range, and I feel like the TTK on the shotgun is much much better close range. Mid-range though the Carbine pretty much wrecks the Smart Pistol and Shotgun both, especially if the other player is good and knows to just break LoS every half second or so. And pretty much every other gun. Whose idea was the Carbine anyway!

I was looking at the competitive banning thing, but I can't seem to find any recent tournaments to peek at their rulesets. I remember it being banned fairly early after the game came out, and remember that the EV8 was sorta banned as well. I wonder how the meta has changed since then in competitive play.

I love Titanfall, I have had more fun with it than any FPS since Goldeneye 007 on N64. Hopefully the sequel provides a quality single player experience and in-depth Pilot/Titan customization.
