BLOODBORNE Spoiler Thread (read OP)

Wish one of the leakers had capture card, so could end up streaming on more obscure sites that last longer.

Oh well, hopefully this one lasts a bit, even though its the start again.

all i want to see is the first hour. lol more than that and i will feel too spoiled

That is how it starts. I tried completely avoiding every thread about the game, but kept seeing this one pop up. "Okay, I'll just take a quick glance and not reveal any spoilers", quickly changed to a subscribed thread and me watching streams. :c

Edit: Also stream guy has gotten better. He's actually using the gun to stun and what not now.

OK, this stream may be selling me on the game. The new combat mechanics seem right up my alley and character progression seems less obtuse than in Demon's.

Bloodborne has fewer stats, but the real problem with Demon's is the obtuse gear upgrade system, which was fixed in Dark 1 and further streamlined in Dark 2. Bloodborne looks to follow suit.

The main thing to understand with character progression in Souls games is that gear and spells all have a stat requirement, so once you find something you're interested in using, focus on raising your stats accordingly. Once you meet the requirements to use your preferred items, you can pump health and stamina as generic "good" stats, or increase stats that your weapons specifically scale with to increase damage (these stats, along with requirements are noted in the menu). Not too complicated imo.

Stat requirements aren't foreign to me at all. I've just been going back and forth on if I want to pick this game up because of my experience with Demon's. I loved the combat and atmosphere but disliked the obtuse nature of how to proceed, build the character, and severe death penalties. Weapon degradation also drives me nuts and leaves me constantly paranoid.

The death penalties are not that bad. You get plenty of useable souls to replenish your lost ones and it's very easy to remake the amount from a few minutes of grinding enemies or beating a boss.

I try to not think too hard about character builds. If I find a weapon I like, I make sure I can wield it, and then pump its scaling stats (if the weapon's damage scales with Strength for example, I'll increase that) until I hit diminishing returns (40 points in previous games). If I'm satisfied with my damage output, I'll pump some health and stamina for a while.

The death penalties are something you just have to get around. Though, if you're scouring the world for shortcuts, most corpse runs are quite short, and the currency you acquire by killing enemies en route to your corpse and recovering your lost souls will help you level up or upgrade your weapons.

Not sure how weapon degradation works in Bloodborne, but in Demon's/Dark I generally only had to repair my stuff every 2+ hours of playing.

Good to hear. I just hated feeling like I was getting punished for exploring. The lantern system seems like it will help with that a tremendous amount.

That kind of stuff is straight up bullshit tbh. Doesn't he have a legit copy that was sold to him early?

Well, they are banning him from streaming it early. They aren't banning him from playing it. It would likely be illegal to ban his PS4/etc. Most of these services have a ban on streaming games pre-release in their policies (that users agree to when they sign up). Still sucks, but he can just make a new account.

It's important to remember that while the game is out to get you...it also kinda isn't out to get you. Judging by what I've seen from the first area in Bloodborne, shortcuts and lanterns are collectively abundant. If you play for a while and don't find either, you probably missed something. A lot of complaints I've seen about corpse runs in previous games seem unaware that shortcuts often exist that literally let you bypass half an area or more.

Yes, exploration can be sometimes punishing if you get too headstrong, but that's what makes it exciting. Be cautious, observant, and patient, and you should be fine.

Hope you give it a shot!

I'll play it eventually. I love the art and setting too much to stay away. Just trying to decide whether to grab it next week or not.

They are doing well to keep this game under wraps this far, been a fair few streams but none seem to have made any significant progress as to spoil much but still early days...

Has his stream from last night been uploaded anywhere?

The only stream I've seen saved was the Youku one, I'd love to hear some English commentary on the first hour.

I haven't watched any streams because I want to be fully surprised but I have been reading some gameplay information. And I was originally not scared of this game because I have beat DeS and DS and I thought I would be fine, but after reading lots of gameplay impressions, I am legitimately worried now lol. It seems like a whole different beast from the Souls games. It's going to be a rough ride at the start because I'm going to have to be adjusting my mindset.

Yes, so his PSN won't be banned. However Twitch/Ustream can still ban channels for streaming games early.

I'm talking about the reason they used to wipe out his ustream account. Using copyright infringement to get something legal taken down. I understand a company not wanting their game to get out early and played fully for an audience that they assume will not buy it after seeing it, but abusing systems in place to protect copyright infringement isn't a good thing. That is what I am calling bullshit. The only reason embargoes work on reviews and the like is they are reliant on cooperation for later products that can be cut off if you do not agree to it.

Or something.

a company doesn't want to reveal a 100% finished version (with the supposed day 1 patch) of the game yet, that's perfectly normal

Unless I'm badly mistaken Sony does in fact own the copyright (on the music at the very least) and are well within their rights to have it taken down; it'd be end user hostile and self defeating to take down streams etc after release, but pre-release it's just good business sense especially for a title where mystery and surprise are important.

Copyright law is currently weighed absurdly strongly in the direction of copyright owners. People claim fair use on a lot of stuff, and I agree with them in spirit, but that's not how it actually works IRL.
