Joe Montana Football 16

The only thing this thread is showing now is those who have actually put in time to a recent Madden and those that are talking out of their asses.

Of course the game is based on a dice roll, they have to be, how else would you capture all of the different attributes and skill sets from players across the league?

Honestly NFL2k5 was one of the worst football games I had ever played, THAT was straight RNG problems. I remember in our GAF league years ago I was down 4 and had a minute to go, I chose to RUN the ball because the stupid power meter made Tiki Barber a bulldozing back. Konex called a cover 2 I think and I literally ran through and over his defense for a long TD run. It was glorious but depressing at the same time. All I had to do was keep mashing on A to charge up then unleash a trucking move that couldn't be stopped.

I'd like to ask you and others that don't like the 2K football titles a couple of simple questions. Do you even like the game of football? Did you at any point in your life play it in highschool or college?

I'm not telling people they must like 2K over Madden, but sit there and say that really confuses me. If you played football, love the game, and understand just the basic x's and o's, there is no way you could feel that way. If you feel that way about 2K5 or All Pro Football, you must really hate the Madden games.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, 2K wasn't perfect but more often than not had superior animations, and things like physics were respected. I couldn't speak on the last few years of Madden very much(outside of watching some gameplay videos and being disgusted that the animations still suck and look robotic beyond belief)but I remember just a few years ago you used to be able to put QB's in as defensive lineman and they'd play like a 240lb MLB. Just cutting through the offensive line with ease. The actual ratings in Madden don't matter. They're just numbers to EA's team.

^this video is laughable...and in many ways, Madden still looks and plays like this. I don't think they allow you to put QBs on defense anymore because they don't want their AI/rating system to get exposed further.

I liked what 2K brought to the table but it was definitely far from perfect.

That game was downright broken the year that Ricky Williams and Jamal Lewis could break every single tackle. I think this improved in later years however.

I can't remember, but did 2K5 allow custom sliders in online play? I tweak the hell out of sliders in any sports game I play to what can give the most realistic stats as possible, but mainly play offline (franchise and local multiplayer). I recall 2K5 playing fine with the right slider set, I never played a whole lot with default settings.

Oh, look Brett Favre is making a tackle. This is NOT the same as putting QBs on the d-line and having them knock around guys that weigh 300LBs on the o-line. This was a stupid thing to post from you lol I'm a Colts fan and I've watched Luck chase down a bunch of guys. That doesn't mean he's gonna be able to push blockers around on the line. Are you slow?

You are honestly proving to me that YOU don't watch football nor do you even know what you are talking about.

First, let's please stop comparing the current Madden to anything in the past. The game has been awful in some cases but this year's version is actually very good. There is a very strong Madden community here at GAF and none of us wear blinders nor do we dismiss any other football games that come to the market.

We have run 32 man leagues across multiple seasons since Madden 2010 (the introduction of online franchise) and it has spawned many different types of players and play styles. I am not a fast twitch based gamer so I have to level out the playing field by being a top level tactician on the field and following an overarching in game strategy. I am the guy people ask to break down the attributes of the players, what they mean and how to best utilize guys. There is a science to Madden that you sitting here having not played the game and outside of a competitive environment such as either of the two 32 man GAF Madden leagues just won't appreciate.

Your assertion that the animations suck and are robotic is baseless.

There are a wide range of attributes that play a role in how "good" a player is in the game. They are taken and then plugged into a matchup formula to determine things like being tackled and shedding blocks. Sorry that you had a bad experience with a youtube video a few years ago, but playing the game it makes sense for most positions. I am the mad scientist that sits there running experiments to figure out how to break the game. We in the Madden leagues spend hours debating over meticulous upgrades to our player attributes to make them better on the field athletes. We go as far as discussing what attributes best fit offensive linemen for zone blocking schemes versus power running. What matters more to a safety in zone, general awareness or recognizing the play. What's better for an LB in the game, a better tackler or a guy that can shed blocks on blitzes. The meta of Madden is a layer of the game that few ever really even think about, including you, icyrhythm. It totally affects football 101 aspects.

I just find it wholly offensive that a guy can sit here and without having played the game as in-depth as some of us start bashing aspects he knows nothing about. Honestly I feel badly that you haven't been exposed to the level of strategizing and agony we go through in our leagues for FA periods, drafting, scouting, and overall week to week improvement and preparation. When your guard you picked up on draft day and improved week to week starts picking up on coming defenders and pancakes them clearing the way for your RB, that's top tier.

It's noy an assertion lol The animations in Madden have been bad for a very long time and that's a fact.

The fact that you guys play leagues in Madden tells me you know nothing of the sport lol

The people who support Madden every year and play in leagues are casual football fans. They didn't play. They don't understand coverage or situational schemes on certain downs. They only care about playing as their favorite teams and players. How can you support a game that doesn't even have a proper replay/challenge system? Challenging whether or not a TD catch is inbounds and Madden's garbage system believes I want to challenge the spot of the ball? That is huge! A call that bad can mean the difference between you winning or losing in your league. If you enjoy outcomes that are decided before you snap the ball, by all means, continue to buy Madden.

Least I know the difference between a block and a tackle

Apologies. It's difficult to see what's happening in that clip other than Favre. Your choice of quality is dogshit. Try posting an HD video or something next time. Way to dodge my question that you know for a fact can't be answered without sounding stupid. If Tom Brady, P Manning, Drew Brees, Rodgers, Cutler etc are your d-line, it's gonna be a long day with a score that result in 120-3

I just have to say, a Video Game that the AI can simulate and predict the exact score of a Super Bowl game including a 24-14 comeback, must be doing something right.

I still will repeat what I said before, if it doesn't have the NFL/NFLPA licenses, Its not going to interest me in dropping 60 dollars on it.

Madden is certainly not what it should be in 2015, but this post is hilarious.

I'm pretty sure you can (as I do often) adjust coverage's in madden. And what do replays have to do with anything? It's not predetermined its just that its a freakin video game (computer) that knows exactly where the ball went down and whether the person caught it or not. Replays are just extra fluff.

I don't really agree with any of that. The game is better then it's ever been in regards to dynamic animations and player collisions. That was all true about 4 years ago but it's not true now

Nah, a few of those problems still exist from my experience, but it's a hell of a lot better about it now than it was then.
