Kojima will no longer be a Konami executive from April 1st + KojiPro is no more?

:(

I think I get it.

Kojima is founding his own studio.

Like Mikami did.

For whatever reason(money).

If he's CEO of a new studio, it makes sense to scrub his name off of every konami product.

That would be my bet, called it etc etc

What about you,
Hideo ?
What's it going to be? Loyalty to your company, or loyalty to me?
Your
country, or your shareholders?

Your job, or your beliefs?

Your duty to your
development team?
Or your personal feelings?

You don't know the truth yet. But sooner or
later, you'll have to choose.

I don't expect you to forgive me. But you can't
defeat me, either. You know me too well.

Just look at that Kojima Productions logo. If you
can't put the past behind you, you won't survive long.

If we meet again, I'll
kill you.

Go home!!

He's gonna go freelance to make the greatest game of all time with a collaboration project with Tetsuya Nomura.

I hope so. I mean, both Kojima and Nomura strike me as the kind of directors who are more assertive or forceful with what they want in a project. I do want to see what would happen if they were able to start a studio together where they could have more creative control, regardless of whether or not they work on the same thing.

Sony would be fucking stupid not to chase him down. His games are consistently some of their best system selling exclusives.

Yeah, I'm pretty surprised Sony didn't manage to secure PS4 exclusive MGS 5--probably because the (lack of) deal would have happened when the Xbox One's underperformance wasn't expected. Maybe Sony can save Kojima and Silent Hills for a good old PS1/PS2 style gen...please

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT| A game by Hideo Kojima

Absolutely

The important thing is: why do such a thing before the release of the game?
I could understand such a thing after the game released, but a thing like this can have a huge impact on purchases. Maybe there's really a problem, here.
Because from a marketing point, this decision has no sense at all.

There's minimal work for him to do on a content-complete game, and if his contract is yearly or some multiple of years it almost certainly expires in April. Whether he wants out of the MGS churn (even just to come back as some kind of ersatz chief director or executive producer!) or if Konami wants out of AAA (even as a mutual "We both think MGS is over, poach whoever you want on the way out and we'll give you a sweetheart deal on distribution"), April is a good time for everyone involved.

I really hope at least the MGS:TPP intro would have "A Hideo Kojima Game" as always...
Because if I see that missing, my hype would go down the drain right after I boot the game for the first time...

Konami will become irrelevant if this turns out to be true, Kojima is the one that kept the boat afloat for the last 10 years.

Konami has been irrelevant for a long time to be honest. Kojima Productions became a more meaningful name than Konami.

No, no I meant for Silent Hills, the wiki page says he's directing it but he himself has never confirmed he has.

I think most of us were assuming he would be directing Silent Hills though.

It doesn't matter now. The only reason Silent Hills existed is because Kojima wanted it so. That game is dead now.

"Both of these entities will be working on MGS properties"
I don't think that is what that wording means.

"Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products."

or

"Konami (inc. Kojima) will continue to develop Metal Gear."

not

"Konami and Kojima will continue to develop Metal Gear."

In before, Konami fired Kojima, so they can release one or two Metal Gear Solid games each year, Ubi style.

Talking seriously, this stuff is exactly what Orwell wrote back in 1984 :l
Yes, we all remember George Orwell's chilling dystopian novel about a video game director being fired from/leaving his job at a well-known publisher. How could we be so blind as to not see this collective nightmare of ours turning into reality??! :(

Does "seriously" mean the opposite in your language?

The fact that they scrubbed his name from everything is a really bad sign. I'm guessing some kind of horrible legal matter. Someone's getting sued for something.

You're probably right. I wonder if Kojima gets royalties from MGS games. I really have to wonder what's going on. You don't really do this sort of thing out of pettiness across all media.
