... after giving us P.T., they can't possibly not give us Silent Hills, right?

right?

So I'm thinking about what the smartphone Metal Gear will be like and it'll probably be pretty cool! You can make it grid based, sort of like Hitman Go, but instead of a premium product they may go with an energy thing so missions and being spotted will drain your lifebar (rations restore it but cost extra). Collecting cards of MGS characters, weapons, and vehicles and using them AC!D style will be a hoot too, and they can have special monthly events so you have a chance at "capturing" special characters like Tuxedo Snake or Pliskin with their own unique attributes.

They'll probably be able to pump it out pretty quick, too, what with Kojima not being able to stop it. A win-win situation all around.

Its weird.

In my head, konami leadership were totally weak and shortsighted in letting this man basically form and control an entire section of the company to do as he pleases, but I never thought they would have the balls to stand up to him. But apparently they finally realized how stupid they were.

What the fuck ?

This is bad, I don't recall any game director being as successful as they once were before they left their respective companies... hopefully Kojima is the first one.

Seriously, what should they do with all of these dormant IPs?

They're kinda done making console games now, it seems.

All that money on a new game engine went completely to waste, it seems. It being used outside of MGSV and Silent Hills, if that even comes out.

y u do this bruh?

This is stunning - to say the least.

I feel like I've been punched in the gut and it knocked all the air out of me. I'm depressed, sad, angry and nervous all at the same time.

This is truly unexpected and all my love, admiration, hope and good sentiment go out to Kojima and his team.

I hope they can find greener pastures after all this.

Konami's Business plans in a nutshell.

I mean... wow. Do they even realize what they just did?

MGS5 must be costing them a fortune, and the whole market is turning to shit. If they even make their money back on that game they'll be lucky, but they'd be better off just investing in their fitness and gambling business.

As a general rule, I feel like establishing narratives where one party is pure good and another party is pure evil does nothing but obfuscate whatever the actual truth is.

That said, I have no problem believing Konami was forcing him to do something he didn't want to do, I just don't know that it's necessarily what happened.

That's really, really big news, holy shit.

Now I wonder how Konami will survive after this, wasn't MGS their main franchise? (Not to say the only one...nowadays)

I mean, there's Silent Hills coming too, with Kojima involved...but after? Ish...

Anyway, I'll support Kojima anywhere he goes after this.

I swear to god if Silent Hills is affected by this.

What the hell is wrong with Konami? What would motivate them to upset someone like Kojima? This feels like it's straying into similar waters as the Inafune/Capcom breakup.

Probably been quoted elsewhere, but from a GamesRadar interview with Kojima,

I asked Kojima what he'd like to cut from his life, during an interview for Edge magazine in 2013, who spoke openly of his plans beyond games. "Tough question. Maybe Konami (laughs). I'm 50 this year, and while I love game development, it's a time in my life where I'd like to explore other things. I love games, but I don't necessarily like the management of the business aspect of working for a company. There are many things I'd like to do: for example, maybe take a year off and write a novel. I've also had offers to work on various movies and make movies, so those are things I'd like to explore at some point. If I could, I think that would be a great change in my life."

Komanis probably done with consoles after this. Though I wonder if they'll hand off silent hills to some shitty developer on a tiny budget and kill off the series for good.

Takuya Kozuki, the president of Konami. Yeah, I won't return that smile.

Beggars can't be choosers, right?

It really makes me scared for MGSV, i hope they don't actually change the game as it was originally intended and it comes out as Kojima wanted it.

The person added: "At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans."

This calms me a little

Konami without Kojima means I can finally stop caring about any Konami published game.
Unless they miraculously start making good Castlevania games again.

It's been stated before, console games are a minor part of Konami as a whole now, so they will be fine if they stop producing console games all together.
