Titan X Launch / Review / Tears Thread

I quoted it in my post. 2nd paragraph at the link:

"There is now also a nice green LED in the fan housing and the logo is displayed in white"

That was for promo images only. "GeForce GTX" text is the only thing that lights up, as on other recent cards.

So the other vendors (MSI, ASUS, EVGA, etc) cards are going to be the standard reference design? Seems like a missed opportunity considering some of those companies have excellent cooling solutions.

I think EVGA has some kind of deal going, the rest are reference only. I might be wrong, maybe Andy can chime in.

Totality off topic but for someone looking for gaming at 1080p ultra settings, should I get a single 980 or go SLI 970?

That would depend on the game wouldn't it? An SLI 970 has much more power than a 980, but you might want to go for best single card performance you can afford before considering SLI. Getting a single 980 may be the better long term option as you can purchase another one after price drop. It seems good enough for witcher 3 at 1080p, so that would be the better choice IMO.

970 sli is pretty damn tight. definitely far more powerful than a 980, so long as the game' sli support is worth a damn.... that said, single gpu solutions are always ideal, and the 980 gives you an extra .5 gb of ram (but at 1080p, you'd be hard pressed to fill the 3.5 offered by the 970)

What's the go to gsync monitor that is ~27"? Looking to upgrade my monitor before going down this titan blackhole

Thanks I will probably go with a single 980

Anyone know if this is up on Amazon or when it's going to go up if it isn't?

I can pre-order is at Newegg, but I much prefer Amazon's customer service.

Edit: Forget it, just ordered it through Newegg. Woot!

I wish you could buy the XB270HU now!

Edit: actually I just checked and some shops seem to have it. I missed that!

What shops?!

Edit: nvm, I saw it answered it the other thread. Hmm, I was thinking about a 50 inch Visio p-series TV since it supports 120hz at 1080p, but this is also appealing. Decisions decisions...

A little off topic, but does SLI basically just combine two cards into one beast card?

Newegg is awesome!

Customer support gave me a free copy of The Witcher 3 with my Titan X purchase because of my history with them.

order $2,000 worth of GPUs from NVIDIA, get no Witcher 3 code brehs

The Asus ROG Swift PG27AQ

4k IPS G-sync

Probably will cost an arm and a leg going by what the current one is going for.

Really wish we'd see 32" versions of 4k gsync panels.

Although it did hit me last night...on my 28" 4k...the clarity and real estate offered by 4k is amazing. But I want moar screen.

I went with the BenQ BL3201PH for this reason. 32" 4K IPS (60 FPS), but no g-sync. G-sync's great, but if you're keeping 60 maxed most of the time, then I'd say the extra 4-5 inches of screen size is more helpful.

Once I get the cards, my setup will be a ROG Swift PG278Q + this for 4k. My original Titan just has one displayport output, so it can't handle both. I'm subbing in an older 1080p120 monitor for the Swift since I'm mainly playing 4K right now (Cities: Skylines).

Oh man thanks heaps for that. Newegg sadly won't ship the card to AU, but Amazon will. Although for some reason I'm getting stung with an Import Fee I've never received from Amazon before, which means I'm actually only saving ~$100 over buying from AU retailers, which I'm a little bit ticked off about, but what are you going to do. Better than nothing.

Hopefully Amazon has the cards in stock on the 21st like Newegg, and they arrive in the earlier portion of the 2-5 day shipping!

Its the import duty for purchases >$1000, matey. Sucks, I know.

Actually, it releases on the 21st. Just pre-ordered one myself (will be pre-ordering another next week). I wanted to wait for the Superclocked versions, but since this comes straight from EVGA (and I didn't have to pay tax nor shipping), I took the plunge!

Is making the release day earlier just for PR? They won't be shipping on the weekends anyway right? So people will be getting them the 24th I'm assuming?

Aha! So that's what the other Aussies were referring too earlier in the thread. I never realized this was a thing - guess I'll have to be careful about that then when buying the Acer Predator next month.

Oh well, I'm still saving a little money, but you can't help tense that little more when you notice $300 extra bucks disappear from your account than you had initially prepared yourself for.
Cheers. Should be worth it though, will finally be able to put my 4K Monitor to good use and Witcher 3 / Arkham Knight should run like a dream, even if I have to drop down to 1440p.

Finally went ahead and bought one... weighed my options, unless HBM turns out to be completely revolutionary destroying the Titan and dropping the price below $600 overnight, then I don't think you can really lose with this card.

The 12GB of VRAM ensure that it will be relevant at the very least in SLI setups for years. TechofTomorrow said that it was writing and reading to the memory at 800 and 700GB/Sec respectively. I'd like to know how that compares to the 980 and R9 290x.

How is the input lag?

Great looking box/packaging right? Congrats! First game you're going to try out?

Yup!

Gonna try out hotline miami…

I kid, I kid. I have alien isolation. Will probably download crysis 3 just for benchmarking. I don't have any other PC games as I haven't played any in 10 years! :D

HardOCP did some vram measurements at 1440p and 4k.

At 1440p they got Watch Dogs and Far Cry 4 to use over 5GB: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/03/17/nvidia_geforce_gtx_titan_x_video_card_preview/2#.VQtG3-EuswE.
At 4k WD and FC4 used over 7.5GB of vram. Holy shiet. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/03/17/nvidia_geforce_gtx_titan_x_video_card_preview/3#.VQtHCuEuswE

My next card is gonna be a 6GB card... hopefully.

Yep. That's where this card is really designed to run. In SLI you get playable fps at 4k, and don't have to worry at all about VRAM.

oh man, you are in for a treat! What monitor are you using?

I'm plugged into my HDTV and home theater in the living room. 1080p60 for the next few months before I upgrade to 4k. Still not happy with the latency on the TV models that are out so far. Plan to downsample everything for a while.

Still sounds awesome: report back after you fired up the first "big" game.

Seems fine. I was playing Ori (pretty tough platformer) with no trouble. I haven't been able to find any test results for it, but going by my impressions it just feels like a normal 60Hz monitor with no HDTV shenanigans.

Just loaded up Assassin's Creed Unity for reasons

4k, Ultra High settings, 4x MSAA -> 7.7GB VRAM

34fps

i know that there are better methods than MSAA. Some say you don't need AA at 4k. I'm just doing it to see what the VRAM usage looks like.

Is that avg? What was the min fps?
