Will the name I choose for my character actually matter? I'm guessing some NPCs will "say" it when I talk to them? Can't remember how Dark Souls was
Nope, they won't say your name. They didn't in previous games either; you instead were called titles like "slayer of demons", "chosen undead", and "bearer of the curse". I'm guessing in Bloodborne you'll just be called "hunter".

I'm pretty excited for this. I loved the idea of the souls games and I tried to progress in them but the control scheme just did my head in (I'm disabled in a way that made it akward) so I'm looking forward to having the chance to try it out with my own custom control scheme.

how noob friendly do you guys think this game is?

never played demon's souls.

only beat the first boss of dark souls.

never played dark souls ii.

For those that have played it. Can you tell me about the UI? Is it customizable? Can I change the transparencies of the bars? Probably not, but modded Skyrim and immersive hud have spoiled me.

Just finished up about an hour and half session, whoever likes the Souls games will definitely like this. There are some technical problems though, the framerate is not consistent at all, when you're indoors it's smooth, but in the outdoor areas the framerate takes a bit of a dive. Also the game is not a looker, although the artstyle brings it up a few notches. Overall I'm enjoying the heck out of it, but really wish this ran better.

Like, when could US pre-load the game?

It's less than 23h for EU launch and still no available pre-load

A player's first Bloodborne experience goes something like this.

Oooh, I recognised that. Which movie?

Cabin in the woods, thanks.

From what I've heard, it's not particularly noob friendly, but you will get better at it as you play. Your skill and experience will matter more than any weapon or stat, and after some time playing you'll find that the first few hours that seemed so difficult are now easy.

Just thinking back on the difference between DeSo release and this. What a different time it was. We really had no idea the gift we were getting back then. Now, however, we're blessed with a gift from the gods.

So I should choose Violent Past if I don't plan to use any of the magic bs?
Yes, but watch out for the stat requirements on some of the weapons that you'd want to play with. An early example of this is the Kirkhammer which requires 10 SKL. The Violent Past starts with 9 SKL so if you want to go the hammer-route then you'll have to put the required points.

I hate that PST exists, it really makes the rest of us wait. Anyone know if Walmart has a Midnight release on this? I'd like to just go buy the retail copy tonight or tomorrow morning (before Best Buy or Gamestop open).

Lmao, this has got to be the best post on gaf. Fuckin time zones, how do they work?

Not noob friendly, but no Souls game is. I haven't played it, but myself guess is that's its a similar difficulty of other Souls games. If you're asking if it's required to have beaten the previous entries in order to even have a chance at this game, then the answer is no. It will kick your ass for sure, but that's all part of the fun.

Game unlocks at 9pm PST digitally and a buncha stores are probably gonna do a 9pm opening. They did it last week over on this coast.

I don't know. The most I've seen was Mendrox(? I probably screwed up the spelling) Saturday. I didn't look for any names.
The scythe only requires 10 STR btw, so it would be more efficient if you chose another class for your scythe-character.

I'm an axe/sword kinda guy but I guess a hammer could be cool too
