Your avatar makes this hilarious.

I was afraid of this, especially the regain system :(

Hoping you're just an uber and godly DaS player and that Im relatively not lol

I've been writing guides for about a decade so I'd say I'm better than the average gamer, but Dark Souls was difficult for me. This game is not difficult.

In Dark Souls I would have to be very careful if I saw more than one enemy. In this game I'll see four and not care. I would also die at least 3-5 times on most bosses in Dark Souls 2 (with no assistance from friends) and this game I can 1-shot most of them with no prior knowledge of the fight. In some cases you even get items to help you with boss battles.

I've never been able to overcome Dark Souls' challenge but I'm so happy games like this exist and they are popular. They always make for quality watching on Twitch so I'm looking forward to Bloodborne providing the same entertainment.

I can see Ori being nominated. But unless is GDC, I don't see it winning game of the year. Even though it's the best puzzle platformer I have played in years.

Hey, I am actually trying to get a videogame fantasy draft going here at gaf. I don't have thread posting privileges though. I hit up one of the mods and he seemed to like the idea, but he hasn't responded since. It's basically based off the last episode of Gameface (Shane Sattersfield new show at SIFTD).

Pretty cool idea but with some modifications, everyone could play together. Would have loved for it to be up in time for Bloodborne, but we missed out.

The general rules are that a user picks 10 games in the calendar year (at least 10 critic reviews) with the highest combined overall metacritic scores being the winner.

If someone wants to start it and needs some help with modifying the rules to set it up, just pm me. Blood borne would have def been one of my picks.

Just to set some things straight...

- The Regain system isn't all that it was cracked up to be. Dark Souls players won't even notice it's there most of the time.

- Boss are super easy, especially compared to Dark Souls.

The regain system is great. If you aren't noticing it, you're playing wrong. I am regularly trading hits with enemies and gaining back all of my health with swift follow ups. I use it constantly.

I am too early in the game to talk about all of the bosses, but I found the third boss brutally difficult. The first two were easy-ish only because I have 500+ hours of Souls under my belt.

Eh, I'm not that good at the games (didn't clear Demons or Dark Souls 1) But I one shotted most of the bosses in Dark Souls 2. It was pretty easy. You're saying Bloodborne is easier than DS2? Did you find DS2 more difficult that DS1?

The hype was real then.....

Now, for someone who really wanted to like demon and dark souls, but struggled and gave up quite early on, like me, would I also struggle with Bloodbourne?

It's not so much the difficulty, I got further in demon than dark, I just found it quite a frustrating experience.

There is a learning curve to the souls games, this will be no different. EVERYONE struggles at first but EVERYONE that doesnt quit gets gud sooner or later. If you never went from rags to riches you wont have caught the bug, and its understandable. Its this transformation that makes the games so rewarding.

I think it is one thing to not like a game, but to go on a charade how it undeniably sucks and comparing this game to the phantom menace is a little far. It's kind of funny to read.

Eh, I just think it's better not to assign varying levels of legitimacy to opinions you agree or disagree with. It's a certainty that some people are going to hate the game, just as some (or a lot, as the case may be) will love it. I hope I don't sound like I'm preaching here, because I've been known to call bullshit on reviews I didn't like. But, in the last year I've enjoyed the hell out of games that reviewers trashed and I've been disappointed in many of those that were critical darlings throughout the years. Because of this I've learned to get a little less attached to a collection of opinions than I used to be.

So basically, the hype delivers. I'm excited- it sounds more Demons than Dark, and while I love Dark, I prefer Demons, so that's good news for me.

We only got the game not even 12 hours before the end of the embargo, so there was no way we could do anything but a few videos, so in case anyone wants to see some SHQ footage from the first two hours of the game, there you have it:

The game clearly won't be getting any prizes for its technical side, with lots of shimmering and a framerate that's almost achieving 30 fps, but not quite, but then again it's From so it was more or less expected and doesn't really matter when you look at the whole picture. They really need to do something about the loading times though, as as they are they are basically a second punishment when you die, and die a lot you will...

I'm not getting hit very often. Most enemies are stunned by your normal attacks so you never get hit. The enemies that aren't stunned you use your gun to stun them and still don't take any damage.

When I do get hit, I have so many Blood Vails that the regain system doesn't matter. Also, most of the enemies die too fast to regain all of your health.

Which boss did you fight for the 3rd one? While there's an order you can go in, you don't have to follow that order. For instance, you can fight Father Gascoigne before the Cleric Beast if you want to. You can also fight Darkbeast Paarl very early if you're crazy enough to do it.

I found DS2 to be a little easier than DS. Not a big difference though. I did play DS2 a lot more though so my opinion might be skewed.

My copy will be here in a few days, glad it's getting such good scores. Never tried the Soul games but I liked the atmosphere and combat I saw in the trailers so I thought I jump in.

If you're dropping spoilers to Bloodborne please take it to the spoiler thread.

he was talking current-gen
Because the PS4 is SOOO current gen with all those remasters...

Meh, whatever. I'm just glad the PS4 FINALLY has a good exclusive title to play. Bloodborne will be my first "Souls" game.

Wish me luck guys!

I really hope that Sony looks at Bloodborne after these scores and realizes that their first retail PS4 exclusive that isn't getting much praise for its presentation is also the first retail Ps4 exclusives getting amazing reviews from a ton of sites.

What the Ps4 needs is more amazing games with decent presentation like Bloodborne and less decent games with amazing presentation like almost everything else they have released

Sorry, what have I said that you consider a spoiler? The boss names? How you don't have to fight stuff in order? I don't consider any of that spoiler, but I can change threads if it is.

Everything I've said you can find in a review...

Man, people sure do have impossible standards these days. If it's not 90+ on Metacritic, it ain't "good".

Review scores don't matter, sales do.

I think u meant to say its first 90+ metacritic title. Don't know why that is all some of u seem to care about.

Did someone really compare the difference between this and souls games to the difference between halo and destiny? It's funny that some people are willing to die on the "bloodborne is not a souls game" hill. It's so similar that even 'spiritual successor' is grossly inaccurate. 'oh there's bubbling skeletons instead of bloodstains, completely different genre, almost'. lol.
