I'm torn when it comes to this game. On one hand, I really loved Demon's Souls and even got the platinum trophy for it. On the other hand I never got very far into Dark Souls, even though I tried repeatedly. I guess the gameplay changes never really did it for me.

It's been a long time since I played Demon's Souls and I would like to play something like it again. Would you recommend Bloodborne even though Dark Souls never tickled my fancy?

In my limited playtime, BB so far feels closer to DeS/DS2 than DS1.

Will totally buy it at a store and just return the Amazon copy if it comes down to it.

Lol, if PvP is anything like that fight, I wont be missing magic in this game. The AI hunters fights in BB are so much better than AI red phantoms fights in DeS/DS.
 
Cane users, what is your class and which gun did you initially go with? Military Vet here and pistol...

Also my dude looks fucking awesome. Long pony tail, mutton chops and curly mustache.
 
I missed the first weapons and kept dueling the
bad, bad doggy
. After defeating it I went back because I hoped that I missed something.
Was pretty reliving to wield a weapon.

I can recomend fighting the first enemy
again
with bare hands though, was pretty intense.
 
I never parried in Dark Souls, but I'm constantly parrying in this game. Good. Good.
 
no idea why I still haven't unlocked all the starting weapons, I only have the hammer in the shop.

also why can't you use items without equipping them? That seems weird, hope that I'm missing something.

My plan is to use that until I find the
Stake Driver
. Which I will use unless it's like absolutely terrible and worthless. I might use it even then. It seems like both weapons favor strength, so I guess I'll go with the strength-focused origin.

I think the items that bosses drop entitle you to new weapons

Are you getting a vanilla copy to play and keeping your collector's edition wrapped as a collectible? I have a collector's edition I will be picking up at Best Buy and trying to decide the best way to handle it.

Anyway, love the OT and really brightened my day after some really bad news dropping left and right the past few days.

Not much to contribute while waiting for my copy to arrive, but I suppose I'll ask if there's any ridiculous repair costs in this one? That was one of my more recent surprises in Dark Souls and that crystal armor.

So regarding, the first boss:

Cleric Beast:
I haven't went up against him yet with the axe, but my first attempts were with the threaded cane. I would just dance around his attacks, get behind him and toss a few R1s then bail. The cane did very little damage to him so I'd end up making some dumb mistakes and running out of blood vials and dying when he was a little under half HP.

The next few times I went in, I would go behind the boss and do a charged R2 attack, which helped take down his health faster. At one point, I did a charged R2 attack and the boss seemed stunned, so I approached his face and did an R1 for a critical stab. I was wondering how to replicate that as I can't seem to do so...anyone know how? Is it a matter of timing? Also I've tried using the pistol to stun the boss mid-attack but I'm pretty sure that doesn't work with him :D

Nope. Just I just figured that I'd help someone who missed the boat on the CE, nothing more. I just forgot I had two CE's orders ;) Gamestop already told me my copy was there but I am waiting on BB, since I am in the Gamers Club, I get the points and the 20%, which is more favorable.
 
Professional - Cane & Pistol

Not sure if I gimped myself. Actually...odds are pretty good I gimped myself. I tend to bullseye the absolute worst combinations in "Souls" games...


With that said; besides the load times the game was an absolute joy to play. Great sound. Great atmosphere. The animations are a little bit..."cartoony". I don't mean the game looks cartoony but the animations in combat seem a little loose and zany. Not that I dislike it...it seems to add a bit of flair to the combat.

I like the reward for health spikes when you attack after being hurt. Rather than "Ouch! Roll away!" It's "Ouch! Fuck you. Eat it!"

Only played 90 minutes last night. Maybe got halfway through the first level but really looking forward to more.
 
Using the cane and I flumpin' love it so far. I rolled Professional so it's the only weapon so far that is pretty good for a Skill build. Having a tough time figuring out where to go for the 4th boss >_>
 
Are there any "downsides" to using a weapon in it's transformation mode most of the time, other than a different moveset and some weapons like the axe preventing usage of the guns on L2?

I was wondering if they did any less damage that way, because I prefer the range they provide. Also, is it possible to do critical stabs after parrying with a gun shot if its in transformation mode?
 
So, are you guys "scared"? Is it like a horror game? Some reviewers tend to say it's so intense and actually genuinely frightening.

At least one guy on GAF gave a detailed opinion that it is easier and not as tense as Souls games. Is the regain system easy to exploit in the sense that you get your health back easily due to enemies getting stunned?

The cane is fun, but I am going to save it for after I get used to the new mechanics. As much as I was looking forward to using it, I would rather have more damage output per strike than resorting to dancing around peppering with blows. Overall, it just seems like dealing maximum damage is the best way to play for settling in here.
