X-Files Officially Returning for 6-episode Season 10

I'm cautiously excited. Carter dropped the ball big time towards the end and that 2nd movie (wtf).

Maybe if he can successfully adapt the season 10 comic into these 6 episodes (completely ignoring the 2nd movie), it might stand a chance to being decent. + Lone gunmen are a must.

I'm currently halfway through season 3 and so far my favorite episodes are largely the mythology ones. Which is not to say I don't enjoy the standalone stuff, but I get excited when people like
Krycek
,
Cancer Man
and
that mysterious Terminator-like dude
show up. As I advance through the series I might sour on the mythology (like seemingly the majority of people in this thread) but as of now I am enamored by it.

You will. The mythology arc really takes a dive. I love the show with a deep passion, but the overall arc doesn't hold up. MotW however, gets a lot better. :)

I want a Strange Luck revival.

Yeah. YEAH. This! What the fuck happened to Chances dad and brother huh?

I'm entirely apprehensive about any more X-files. I invested way too much into that show the first time around and the last season made me want to set everything on fire.

Seriously, imho some people are REALLY overdramatic when it comes to The X-Files mythology. The serialized episodes with CSM, Krycek, the Alien Bounty Hunter, etc. were always my favorites. Here's how I would grade the writing on the overarching plot:

Season 1-5: A-
Season 6-7: B+
Season 8: B
Season 9: D+

There really aren't THAT many things left unexplained regarding the conspiracy. I would say the entire show holds up quite well if you just removed a few frustrating episodes from Season 9. And even Season 9 is less of a problem now that we're getting a new miniseries to truly wrap things up.

Guess it's time to start marathoning the last 4 seasons :o
Thats my plan. I havent seen one episode with doggitt.

Can't wait. I really hope after this run they'll start a new X Files series. I think if they just started from scratch with Doggett and Reyes the show might have been saved, instead of trying to tie everything back together.

Been waiting for a X-Files replacement forever, but wary about this news. Loved the Monster-of-the-week episodes much more than the conspiracy. However, such a short series hints that all the episodes will be dedicated to advancing the mytharc.

A lot of the standalone greats episodes are in seasons 3-6, so you are getting into that sweet spot now.

Yeah. I'm still a little torn on believing they had been together the entire time. It felt like they had actually been apart for a while or at least have big gaps in between seeing each other.

Yeah, it just didn't work. I remember one review at the time that said the film felt like it had just skipped to the sexless, passionless phase of their relationship.

I'm intrigued but can't say I'm excited. I'm in the camp that thought the series declined in quality precipitously toward the end, and X-Files: I Want to Believe certainly didn't inspire any confidence that Carter just needed a break from the material before he could churn out quality work again.

Carter referring to the episodes as "six stories" sounds more like MOTW to me, though I might be reading too much into that phrasing.

It'd be pretty sweet if they got Vince Gilligan to join in. He wrote some of my favorite episodes of The X-Files.

First Twin Peaks, now this (I know it went on longer and there was some stuff with Robert Patrick but only saw the first couple of seasons ). Two of the defining series of my childhood.

Indeed...my all time favs were almost all written by him...I doubt he will write any though...he's busy with his own shown atm.

I suspect Carter is a bit like Lucas in that he has great ideas but needs help to make them into something good. Hopefully he will be surrounded by a solid team of writers for this new season.

Damn. Chris Hardwick really did it. Nerdist power

Gillian Anderson has only gotten hotter. Can't wait

I wouldn't give Hardwick too much credit. It was obvious something was already brewing when Anderson was on the podcast. She just used the opportunity to create a little more buzz.

Vince Gilligan would be nice but I'd be way more excited if they somehow roped Darin Morgan back. His episodes were transcendent.

Yeah, I kinda figured as much, too. Still, a guy can dream.

So beautiful. I've never stopped loving you, Scully.

The physical media market is on life support/niche at this point so there is no way that is true. However replace "box set sales" with "streaming market value" and you might be on to something...
You and I have very different meanings for this phrase.

Intrigued though cautiously optimistic about this.

As much as I love the series, ranging from monster of the week eps (Flukeman always made me think twice about leaving the lid up on the toilet seat before bed) to the plot-related episodes (and everything in between), I have to say that the one episode I'll forever love is The Unnatural.

It gave me baseball, aliens, baseball stats and finally, Mulder and Scully taking batting practice... I love it and probably watch the episode at least once a year.

From the other thread:

14ish

I always had hope that a third movie would be released on the date of the alien invasion, and their son would somehow be involved, either leading the invasion or fighting against it, flinging shit left and right telekinetically. Would've been awesome.
