Best starting class?

without a doubt focus on vit/end and then str. take the axe or cleaver. anything favoring arcane or bloodtinge will do you no perceivable good whatsoever, for, at least, the first big chunk of the game. whether this changes later I don't know yet, but I suspect mostly no.

OH MY GOD, FINALLY!

I beat the third boss. Phew! Only took 4 hours of attempts.

My god, this game is utterly fantastic. The last half of the third boss fight made my heart beat faster then anything, jesus.

Ok seriously, how do I get pass these two wolves at the bridge? T.T
Anyone have any tips for the decently sized beasts? The ones right before the first boss. Not the dog-sized beasts, the two bigger on the bridge. I have issues with them. Is it possible to pull just one of them? I feel like choosing the threaded cane might not have been wise. I love the whip, but it feels very weak.
They are incredibly weak to
molotov cocktails. Seriously, molotovs take off more nearly half of their health.

Also, there's an alternate route if you
go left instead of right at the fountain.

The fourth nearly killed me IRL. Clammy palms ahead.

Don't know about *best* class, but loving Professional/Cane combo

I used up all my cocktails on the first boss (as well as 20 blood vials), then died. :( But thanks, I'll check out the other path.

Not sure what to look for here... found a strange

bonfire that lifted me into the air and caused me to be frenzied and then die when I got near it. What is that?

Holy shit! (Someone who has never played any of the Souls games here!)
This game is so incredibly unforgiving, bit simply addicting. I'm still in the first area and nowhere near the first boss, I suppose. I die constantly, but seem to get slightly better every time I respawn. Played for three hours straight, which is the longest play session I had in the last two years. I need to get some sleep right now, but tomorrow after Uni it's time for me to get back.

I kind of just want to reiterate this since I see a lot people struggling on 2nd boss, and I also had a hell of a time beating him. so:

2nd Boss Super Secret Cheaters Strategy:

When you get into the boss room, to your left is a row of grave stones. Immediately dodge as soon as you enter (the boss likes to shoot you nice you and early), then run to this grave stones. If you're fast, you can be on the side closest to the door, and the boss will position himself on the other side. From here, you can do quick attacks or heavy attacks and mostly be safe from any kind of stun locking. Always keep your health at full, because his heavy attack, if it lands, will probably kill you. Don't worry if the boss comes around to your side, just move around to his. Just keep healing and slashing away and you'll be in second phase in no time.

At this point, you need to parry. You can get stun locked reeeeeaalll easy when the boss is in this mode, and the first thing he does is bust up those gravestones. If you have a lot of bullets, I recommend spamming them unless you have gotten the parry time down perfect. One of them will probably hit. You can do one of two things after you hit the boss -- you can try for a second parry, or, if you have a powerful weapon (I didn't, used the cane) you can probably run up and finish him off. I'd recommend the second parry to be safe.

If you have him down to a sliver but things are getting dicey, toss some projectiles at him to finish him off.

Might take a few tries with this strat, but it lets you easily focus on getting your timing down for parry in second phase without any danger of dying in the first phase.

Sound like the axe is so much better than the cane for a Starting weapon

I haven't tried the cane, but I started with the axe and I've been plowing through the regular enemies. The 2 handed mode has a lot of reach and the normal attack in that mode is a pretty wide slash that can hit multiple enemies in front of you. I've been one shotting some of the regular enemies with the R2 attack and charging it fully lets me kill some of the beefier enemies with one blow.

The cane is awesome for groups, but against big enemies? LOL. No. It's pretty rough and you have to get the parry down for it to work.

Also needing to put points in Skill to raise dmg with the cane will chip into points you could be putting into endurance/strength etc. So, in a game where you already die a lot... well, I die a lot, but I think it's a really fun way to play without being unfair or anything.

Yea, it got me too. Then I went back to see if it was there still there and got it again like a sucker.

Manus reference?
