The manual was most likely finalized for printing months ago. You'll likely find similar out of date information for stuff like that in the strategy guide as well.

What downloadable goodies is everyone most hyped about (excluding game, of course)?

Most of the posters are backers and most likely are spamming F5 at backer portal for keys so no time to post here.

Nah out of date manuals is a thing for all videogames since forever, even for BG and BG2. The fancy manual BG2 came with contained more than a few tables that were completely wrong and spell descriptions that outright lied. This was even true in the game for at least a patch or two.

How easy ingredients are to come by without, you know, nuclear holocaust?
Fallout and Arcanum, both Tim Cain games, had recipes in their manuals. I still make the banana bread from the Arcanum manual to this day.

Bad news, apparently the entire file is encrypted so zero access to the extras. Brandon Adler lied to us I guess.

That's for preload, but backers should have access to materials via the backer portal since retail versions don't include everything we get, like the cook book.
Won't people who backed have access to the extras through their backer portal though? So only the people who didn't back will be SOL.

Once you receive that email you will be able to go to the Products Tab of your Account Profile (https://eternity.obs...ccount/products) and click on the Pillars of Eternity link. From there a dialog pop-up will come up asking you which platform you would like to have the key for (GoG or Steam). After you make your choice, you will be given your key and be good to go! If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask!

Well like I said for backers this probably isn't true. We will likely be able to access our rewards once they update the backer portal. It's only non-backers who preordered the game who can't access those extras at this time.

God, the 26th is so close and yet so far, grrr.
Yes, they've started basic high level discussion about that recently. They want it to be comparable to Tales of the Sword Coast for BG1. It will be an expansion on the main game, not a followup, and it's likely they modify a good portion of the main game.
They've talked about looking into adding in proper AI for companions and some other stuff like that. Wouldn't be surprised to see further modifying of the game mechanics, abilities, attributes and so on based on main game feedback.
Also a good possibility of more companions added in.

You could try contacting support and getting a refund, but it was kind of an impulsive purchase this close to release.
