Tides of Annihilation | Mirror Combat Trailer

Press up to healing flask while you dodge attack patterns you learned through repetition while epic choir music blasts

Have you seen this cool character action game btw. Reminds me of Ninja Gaiden!

Hmmmm… That sounds like the feel of a soulslike than an actual soulslike. A soulslike-like.

Animations are awesome. Definitely interested.

Those Chinese games all share the same mechanics, meters and shits but they do one thing right; they look cool or at least try. They are far removed from western slop like Concord and Dragon Age.

But, like Fallen Feathers and recently Lost soul aside, its nothing special underneath. This and Crimson Desert might turn out to be the same.

I still find the main characters voice realllly bad. I don't know if I can stick it out for an entire game. Everything else seems great.

This is a soulslike as much as my dick is an anaconda.

Looks fantastic, I already had it under the radar when it was introduced during last summer's State of Play.
I think it will turn out great like Stellar Blade.

The intro is what I expect to see as actual gameplay next-gen. And people keep talking about 'diminishing returns'. We still have more that can be achieved.
Back in 2021 when they showed how amazing Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart looks even as a early current gen game, I thought we would be getting a lot of great looking amazing games like Tides of Annihilation within the next few years. It still looks super impressive now along with Space Marine 2 and Tides of Annihilation and Rebirth.

I agree, as Maelle she sounded great.
But here it sounds disconnected.

EDIT: Same for the other female companion in the first trailer.
Yeah the other was even worse. The voice work is what has me at a "maybe maybe not", vs what would otherwise be a day one. Which is a real shame.

We can get more of these if people stop focusing so much on open world experiences. I think some Chinese devs are attempting to channel the pre-open world, cinematic times of PS360 and early PS4/XBO, which works out well.

Their biggest hurdle right now is delivering meaningful and hard-hitting storytelling. I want this game to make me remember it.

The only open world games I truly like are Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and GTA so definitely would love way more games to focus less on open world.

I do have hope that this game would deliver some cool memorable stuff. The last time an action game had that was during the epic showdown between Armstrong and Raiden.

Although for me the writing doesn't have to be too deep just some very cool epic and interesting events in the story.

I feel the same way.

It's something that Japanese devs figured out early that might take Chinese and Korean devs more time, which is that in games with cinematics, character and storytelling around those characters matter more than lore and worldbuilding.

I still think of when I played First Descendant and just how much my eyes glazed over at the amount of the nonsensical word salad of in-universe terminology being thrown at me per minute, which is currently a problem with some eastern games. They expect you to fully live in their game's worldview instead of being a tourist, even in a game that is only 20-30 hours long.

Haven't play First Descendant but another big eastern game I tried in the past was Black Desert and experienced the same thing. And while they have a great character creator and cool flashy moves but the whole setting and characters feel soulless. Which is one of the reasons I'm not hyped for Crimson Desert because it's just a newer black desert.

Tides of Annihilation doesn't seem to have the soulless problem at least cause the characters and setting so far got that cool charm that were in many great single players action adventure games of the past.

I said in another thread; I believe this game won't be a Souls clone. It will be more like DMC.

But the thing is framerate is all over the place. The setting is awesome, the characters are looking really good. It really would be a huge shame if they don't fix the framerate until release because this is an action game. We also don't have any release date for a long time. That means that they still have a long way to go.

Hope they manage to bring a masterpiece. What I saw with these 2 videos they released, this game have huge potential to be a masterpiece. But at the same time it have a potential to be a huge failure.
