Six is good. Let's them do strike a miniseries vibe and keeps them away from the monster-of-the-week stuff.

Might actually get a good ending for once.

Monster if the week Xfiles is best xfiles though :(

Monster of the week X-Files was the best the show was written, it's not the best format.

Procedural TV is inherently inferior and what I want out of X-Files isn't more of what they did, it's better closure to the conspiracy they built.

Has there ever been a comprehensive release of the X-Files tv soundtrack by Mark Snow?

There were some pretty damn amazing themes in the series aside from his of course legendary main theme. It's really hard to find them though.

Really hope they can bring back Mark Snow. It won't be the same without him.

Speaking of bringing back. Wonder if they'll ask Alan Dale to reprise his role as the last known Leader of the Aliens? He was in the final Season and was in the finale as well (the one the telepathic kid "outed" in Mulder's "trial")

What's up with this just 6 episode shit? This show is a proven hit, with a MASSIVE cult following. Give us 10 to 13 episodes!

Holy shit, this is pretty cool

Hank Moody as Fox, Fox as Hank Moody.

I wonder if Duchovny and Anderson can slip back into the mindset of their rolls. They were young and eager then, now they seem experienced and chilled out.

Please no more baby story and bring back liquid metal man/T1000 (Robert Patrick?)

We shoukd be glas we have 6. Both actors are pretty busy with other shows. Trying to schedule a mutually agreeable time to shoot must be tight.

Honestly I want this to be some sort of true detective type story where everything leads up to the final crazy 6th episode.

HOLY sh*t yes :D

Me and my gf just started watching season 1 (we are very lttp) and are loving it so far. Just watched the episode with all of the Eves and Adams.

Awwwww yeah!

Love me some X Files. My older brother used to watch this religiously when we were little so I grew up to appreciate it. I remember being shit-scared of the episode Darkness Falls and would love to see some more freaky business in these 6 episodes. Also, Gillian Anderson contributed to my weakness for redheads.

I only saw the whole show last year (never saw all episodes in order before). So I am hyped. :A

One can never have enough X-Files.

Wonder if they'll release the series on blu ray at the same time?

Fox has been sitting on HD transfers for awhile, and there would be no better time than with this. Just depends if the market is there, as many studios don't even bother releasing tv shows on bluray anymore. At least they can always dump them on streaming/itunes.

So this should be the actual invasion right?
Or a reason why the invasion never happened.

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but my hope is that this limited run is also going to be monitored for interest and reception by the public and if it turns out to be a huge success then that will galvanize any future plans to expand upon things and perhaps offer up an actual invasion arc in either another Season or perhaps even a Third Film.

I'd agree that TXF had amazing MOTWs (Clyde Bruckman, Bad Blood, etc.) but imho some of their best episodes of all time were mythology driven episodes like Erlenmeyer Flask, Duane Barry, Ascension, One Breathe, Anasazi, 731, etc. I loved the whole show but imho it was always the most interesting when Krycek and CSM/CGB Spender were around. I'd love to see the new miniseries be as mythology heavy as possible.

How can the smoking man return? Cmon don't do this. Don't bring the lone gunman or krycheck back either. Just don't. Respect the past canon. Don't turn this into comic shit territory.

6 episodes? Are they filming it in the UK or something?

Oh I see. All according to infernal plan.

Fantasticly frightening episode!

I kinda thought about her face for a fraction of a second as I hastily and excitedly typed my post on my phone. Didn't think anyone else would have that sort of meme-ish thought as well! :D

Can't wait and hope the quality is up to the first 6-7 season (though I did optimistically ride the wave to the finale, but was ultimately left with questions versus answers...).

I went through a phase of owning a shit ton of heather gray t-shirts because of Fox Mulder. And trying and failing to hook up with redheads because of Scully.

My wife started watching/rewatching the X-Files after hearing this. (She got through season 2 the first time.) Man, the show has not aged well.

Huh? I've been watching it for the past month (currently on season 4) and it has definitely aged well. You just have to get past the fact that it was filmed in the 90's when they had basic computers and still used VCR's and stuff but nothing looks bad or feels dated.

It looks a lot better than those Marvel/DC shows. No one is gonna be able to watch those in 20 years.

hoping these are "episodes" in the sense that bbc sherlock has "episodes"

ie, they will pretty much be tight as hell scripts and about 70+ minutes each

or, like columbo, if you gather

Is it confirmed this will be the only season? I think a 12 episode season 11 would be a good idea, 6-8 monster of the week's, the rest story progression.

Great news on the Vancouve part, but
CSM got blown up in the last episode iirc, or am I remembering this wrong?

It's X-Files, I mean there are a million ways for them to bring back the smoking man and have it be awesome and surprising. Everything from clones to aliens beaming him out of there, etc etc. So long as the writing is good then I'm fine with him still being part of the story.

I expect this to be one of two things:

1. A six episode "finale" to series, wrapping up the invasion storyline and sending the characters off on the right (no boat waving).

2. A test run by Fox. We'll get some MotW episodes and maybe a mythology tease and if it does well we'll get a full season the next year.

Either way I'm happy.

That's crazy talk. The show has aged extremely well.

New interview with Chris Carter and lots and lots of details for this series. All of it sounds very good for fans of the original series:

Everything is sounding the way I want it to sound. HYPED!

Well there you go, he mentions William. They have to wrap him into the story somehow.

I'm still wondering how they're going to be able to cram all this stuff into only SIx episodes, especially if they also are planning MOTW episodes. I suppose they could try to do something like have even the MOTW episodes have callouts or ties to the overarching story, but then that's not quite how X-Files works.

Well, they all seem like they're excited so that's a great thing. Sounds like Carter would want to bring back as many people has he can if he can work out their schedules.

By the way, I just love this song from the X-Files movie soundtrack by Noel Gallagher. Turn up the bass and those beats are just killer:

How has this show held up during the years? I've never gotten around to watching it, but I think I should?

Sci-fi is easily my favorite genre.

I rewatched it on Netflix a year ago and thought it held up very well.

Visually I absolutely love the "dirty" look of the visual image. I'm sure a combination of the age of the film and the cinematography style they went for. It gives it a more unsettling image than the super "clean HD" look you see nowadays IMO.

It is a 90's show through and through though so it depends if you are hip to that sort of thing.

Still, I think watching it on Netflix actually makes the story more understandable because you can more easily keep track of plot threads and such, compared to when it was airing on TV with all the breaks both between weeks and in the summer.
