I just cant stop thinking about how interesting the whole insight system is. The more "in the know" you are of eldritch abominations and general strangeness, the more you can see (unlock) new npcs or things in the world, simply because your character's mind is open to them.

But if you get too much, I guess you go crazy?

Just be aware that there are some enemies that literally suck it out of you.

Hehe, with the lost ones 60k :P I was playing on the vita though and while it's clunky, it's still useful if my better half wants to watch tv :)
Ok, 60 would be nice, but..
Do you want to be rewarded for dying? ;)

I don't care if I lose my echos.
Only when I just beat a boss and for some reason didn't manage to go back to the hub area for leveling or weapon upgrades.

I got a couple of shards left after I upgraded my starter axe. Is it beneficial to upgrade the gun too? If it's only bullet damage, I guess it's not much use?

Went looking for the real third boss and ended up finding some crazy witches. I thought I was going into the third boss area so I summoned a guy. We went down into the area and instead of the boss I thought it was it was someone else. It was ok at first and then the boss cloned itself and so you have to basically kill them both close to the same time. If you kill one and take too long to kill the other then the other one spawns again with like half hp. The guy I summoned died so it was just me trying to fight both. I managed to kill one multiple times but the other would always run away and I couldn't kill it in time. They have an attack where they shoot balls of light at you and if you get hit by them they trap you and you can't do anything about it until the group of minions they have along with the clones are done attacking you. If you don't have full HP when you get snared you are basically dead.

Where do you gain an item to be summoned? I only got the item that allows you to summon other individuals.

Where's my white soapstone dammit!

Died once early on then took down the Cleric Beast first try thanks to the pre-release videos. Bought the Kirkhammer and the Hand Lantern - holy shit I love that this exists as an item again. Demon's Souls knew what was up with the Augite of Souls. Dark Souls always annoyed me because I was just supposed to believe you generated light from your cold hollow body? Hell no.

Going in blind from this point on. Fingers crossed.

Platinumed Shadow of Mordor to clear out the HDD space, now I can FINALLY start playing.
I got stuck in character creator for 30 minutes. :( Wanted to make a cool character!
I tried to make my face, but it sucked, so I just picked a pre-made one and added some facial hair.

Father G has been whipping my ass for the better part of the day.

I cannot for the life of me beat Cleric Beast. I have the cane. I keep trying to run behind him and use R2. I can get one hit in, maybe. I try to run away. He does a wide sweeping attack and lowers half my health. Shit is infuriating.

I had the stupidest grin when I found not one, but two doors that were locked from the other side in and around the starting clinic. Can't fucking wait to see how those pay off later. This level design is simply of the highest caliber.

yep ...had an awesome 1st hunt tonight...by awesome Imean I was punished up front like the first two posters I quoted. Here I was a challenge run Souls player...thinking pretty high of my chances of rolling Cleric first try...nope....got ass handed to self pretty hard. had trouble with Cleric a la new controls and camera, but just wasnt learningthe attacks like I needed to. BUt then the magic of FROM software level design took over and I just went exploring....found the
sewer
, and got some cool items, got caught in the middle of gunfights with crossfire on all directions...and survived with heart beating...found two shortcuts and opened them, one NPC who gave me those
masks
...and lost 4500 echos once, but went back, killed the bastard that ate them by accident and calmly walked back via shortcut with 8000 echos and a new hunter armour set. Used echoes to level up the character and my trusty axe and re-tried Cleric....EPIC battle....used up all the bullets and he wasnt even down two thirds health. But that's whne the true souls player in me took over and just two hadnded the axe. Finally started t dodge dome of those sweeps...the timing is way off compared to souls ...you have to dodge earlier and anticipate evern better than before. Used up vial after vial and had him down to 1/5th with only one vial left and 2/3 my own health bar. kept pecking away for what seemed an eternity but didnt get hit...then got another charged double swing of the axe and a couple more on top...but he still had two more hits worth of health...ran out used the last vial, dodged one more attack like a champ and charge attacked his sorry arse to oblivion........

.....what an awesome game......first boss and already I am feeling almost as rewarded as when I beat Darklurker with no shield solo. To the people above that are getting frustrated..... KEEP AT IT. You will eventually get rewarded the same way...go exploring and learn the map if you cant beat the boss you are on...open some shortcuts and get some cool items, new armour and then upgrade your weapon and try again...you will do it eventually and it will feel great!

I have ANOTHER question: do the minion enemies in the starting area respawn? It seems that, no matter how many I kill, there are always some of them walking up and down that central street. Do they respawn when the bell rings?

I've been studying for the better part of the day.. Ugh, I need to get back to this game!

I can't think of anything besides BB right now.. Wow, this game is too fucking good.

Right, so, I've been trying to find the first boss for a while now, and I came across
Father Gascoine
. I managed to kill it first time, but from what I've gathered so far, that's not the first boss... I've been in the sewers
and seen the big rat thing, but I didn't fight it. Is that where/who it is?

You're right though, you get those echoes quickly and it's not really a problem if you die. I go straight back to the hub after each boss, gotta make sure to be levelled right for the next challanges. Man, it's my first Souls game, but I love it.

I did the same and still failed. I shouldn't have gone for the clean-cut "pretty boy" and created more of a "badass" with facial scars, facial hair, etc.

Granted you don't see their face a whole lot, but it still bothers me. He looks fine in the characters creator but somewhat different in-game. :/

It is in the bridge, where you see the 2 black dog. Killed them and proceed forward. After u kill a gaint with the brick and 3 crow. You will meet ur one and only Cleric Demon.

Random question, how do I get my Messenger Hat dlc item? Ive already used the code on psn and downloaded it, where do i or when do i get it in game?

Minions always respawm when you dead or tp back to the hunter's dream.

I don't believe this is like respawning in DSII where they eventually die off, but instead like Demon souls or Dark Souls where they respawning after every death or when you travel back to the hunstmen's dream.

Where is that boss for the area anyhow?

Past the gunner's ladder, in, down, and through the building. At the bottom you'll find a shortcut back up to the gunner area. Proceed past it until you reach a small town where a wolf busts out of a door. Enter that and climb the spiral stairs for yet another shortcut back to the lamp. Proceed past the smashed door, head left up the ramp, down the stairs, and down the hill. For a quick trip back to the boss, proceed right off the cliff from the lamp, a few ledge drops to the spiral staircase.

Thanks. Is there a quick way to get there from the lamp? Because IIRC, I'd have to go down that long street with a bonfire at the end that has tons of enemies.

So in the hunstmen's dream, when get there go up the path behind the messengers in the fountain. Where the door is when you would enter the building instead turn left and there's an overgrown path. Down in that area is another fountain that will let you customize your messengers.

Alright gents having some trouble here. Got all the way to the sewers and picked up my hunters garb with 8000+ echoes my threaded cane is at 78 durability and I die further into the sewers. All I want to do is find the second lamp to it can head to the hunters dream and repair my cane without having to repeat the beginning area over again. Where do I go? I was making progress and just want to save that progress. Please help :-(

From the 1st bonfire, did you open the door on the left yet? if not, you have to open that short cut, so you can do the boss fight run in less than 2 min.
