I don't think there is a limit, other than what insight you have to use up.... but what do you mean by you found an invitation? Does that happen when you ring the small bell to help people, or did it just randomly show up by itself?

Axe & Kirkhammer are by far my favorite so far... axe is awesome!

The press X graphic showed up and the message told me to ring the the bell to summon players and two seconds later there were two over leveled axe wielding wrecking crew hunters in my game just plowing through everything that I was wiping on before.

So I ran into
a woman with a old doctors beak mask. She gave me two items. I can't remember what they are at all?

Anyone? Fairly early game spoiler.

is the 3rd boss the blood starved beast or vicar Amelia? mine was the vicar.

Also after beating the vicar and turning left, down where you beat the two NPC ive gone down the spiral staircase and to a large room with what looks like to be a dish of some sort in the middle. I went to open the door and died by some blue ghost thing? wtf

?

Bloodborne is so hard that mofos are even dying in the safe zone...

EMPLGCG.png

lol i was wondering what was happening when i saw those as well XD

Gascoigne was way, way harder for me. I beat Blood Starved Beast first go and only used 1 blood vial. I died on Gascoigne 6 times.

I almost got it the first try but every try thereafter was way harder. Dunno if that is sheer luck or by design but it was genuinely O&S hard for me. And consequently my absolute favorite fight thus far 18 hours in. Only thing close to as hard was the first chalice boss that I was just underleveled for.

Quick question:

Is this game as open as Dark Souls? Meaning, can you walk into the wrong direction at the beginning and then overwhelmed because you're not even supposed to be there? Or is Bloodborne more straight forward like Demons Souls?

How far in do you have to go before you can buy the other starting weapons? I am curious about the axe and cane.

You find a badge in
the sewers after defeating a giant boar/pig thing. This badge lets you purchase the other starting weapons from the messenger in the Hunter's Dream. It's located below and near the entrance to the Father Gascoigne fight.

Here was my first experience with Bloodborne (keep in mind that for all intents and purposes I have never played a Souls game). This will just be spoilers for the very beginning of the game:

I moved forward to the first monster and was quickly killed. Not really knowing what was going on I talked to a vendor and couldn't afford anything. I clicked on a shrine and chose to go back to the sickroom. I then proceeded to make it to the first lantern using only my fists. It seemed really freaking hard, but I figured, "I guess this just what these games are like." After dying many times to the first monster but doing better with the lesser mobs, I was transported back to the place I was when I first died. Finally taking a look around, I realized my mistake  lololol

Also so cryptic not even the OT could be straightforward. :P

If I'm thinking of the correct one
it should have been a gesture and a bold hunter's mark (the homeward bones of this game).

Well, that was a productive play session. Killed the
giant pig
in the sewers very easily with a backstab, defeated the Priest and now I've just arrived at the Cathedral Ward.

This game is awesome.

Did anyone else give the Red Brooch to the
little girl in the window?
How does that turn out?

Yay Cleric Beast down. Only died twice so far and it was against one of those tall lanky dudes in the sewers. Loving it!

PSN: Teizen if anyone wanna game later

I think there is no real order to the first four or five at least, the sequence isn't strictly set. Most people are going
cleric beast, father g, blood stained beast, vicar
but there's other ways to do it.

Does anyone know what Frenzy does? I went toward the purple light in old yharnam after Father G and it lifted me into the sky and dropped me back with almost no health and said i have frenzy. I read you need a sedative to cure but I havent found one. But I havent noticed any differences in my character since then. So I don't think its like curse from DaS.

Have you guys applied any significant amount of points to HP?

Maybe I'm crazy but ever since Dark Souls I've applied everything to my offensive capabilities and some to stamina so I can keep up my dodging, and it's been going well so far.

It's also pretty exciting when you know that if you're hit = you're dead. Makes you learn those attack patterns.

Thanks, from what I gather that isn't that far into the game so I am not going to bother to restart just to test the other weapons. The saw blade thing is working fine for me for now.

I don't know how to explain it, but this might be my GOTY already. It's packed to the brim with details, smooth animations, and just all around difficult-but-rewarding gameplay.

In fact, going back to the originals is going to be a fucking chore.

I'm only on the second boss, who's intense but also a colossal piece of shit, but I've never had so much fun with DS bosses before.

On that note, fuck that guy. The first boss took two tries after I upgraded my dude's power and did like one upgrade for my weapon.

Now, after even more levels and upgrading, I get so close to ruining this POS, but then he rektd me after he hits that transformation.

I tried using the bell, and after ten minutes someone joined my game, but then I couldn't find them so they left. Maybe I should have stayed where I summoned them at.....

Female armor is so much cooler so far... especially the Brotherhood of the Wolf outfit you can buy in the shop right at the beginning.

Maybe the coolest armor I've seen in a game imo.

Man.... that's pretty great. There is so much I still need to learn about Bloodborne, I feel a bit overwhelmed with everything right now. I'm having like an OCD trip about trying to find out everything and make sure I do everything correctly lol.

My copy has shipped as of last night. At this point, I'm foaming at the mouth to play this game!

I was cheap and did the 2 day shipping, instead of release day shipping from Amazon.

Never again.

I wanted to add everyone on Bloodborne GAF, but the list was too damn long, someone should make a Bloodborne GAF PSN account so we can add everyone easily lol.

Anyway, I just added a bunch of people from that doc randomly, hope we can play soon.

I'm new to the series so I made little progress last night as expected, but had a lot of fun. After trying some different builds I settled on Lone Survivor origin and Saw Cleaver. I mostly just died while getting used to the controls etc., so I was mainly dealing with the street and bonfire section.

I got past that two straight times before calling it a night, so I'm getting the hang of it. Died to the next mob of guys/hounds after killing the big dude that was banging on the gate. Looking forward to playing more, but probably won't get a chance until tomorrow unfortunately.

Gave the 2nd boss another try today, this time doing weapon parry instead of just spamming around... it felt so easy
even on his 2nd form

Haha If you find that amusing instead of infuriating you are going to love these games. Lesson learned: explore carefully. :-)

Levelling and first boss aside, you don't really need reflexes, just an awful lot of dodges to the side. I managed to beat after levelling 2 levels or so and I'm not a good gamer. Link on how if you need it.
I took a very unsoullike 'do, don't think' approach, and it worked great. Then again, it felt like my ZotE 2 experience payed of there, strangely enough.

Will do! Now I just have to wait 10 hours before I try it!

Thanks man.

I've played and finished all three of the Souls games so I had an idea of what to expect going in. That's why it felt particularly great when the first boss said "screw you, you cocky bastard" and destroyed me a few times. I finally whittled him down to about 5% health during a particularly prolonged struggle, all the while using my blood vials to keep my health up. With the last vial spent I stood a good 40 feet away, my heart racing and my palms sweating. This is it. This is why I play these games. Then he jumped on me and crushed my entire body into oblivion.

I spent some time exploring, gained a few levels, bought some new armor, and took him down. And just like that I am hooked once again. Miyazaki, you brilliant son of a gun, you.

Btw... screw the axe. I started another game as a strength build to try the axe and I don't see this buff in damage you guys are talking about.

Threaded cane scales (C) with dex after two upgrades and gives you the choice of thrust attacks and complete crowd control... it's awesome. Also has two nasty transformation attacks.

Here are my first impressions of the game after 3-4 hours:

The Good:

- Graphics are nice, creepy, and the atmopshere is amazing. Animations are pretty good and the sense of danger is ever present.
- The combat, for the most part, is fluid and fun.
- Enemy design and level design are incredible. Turning, twisting, claustrophobic...just great.

The Bad:

Here is where I may say a few things against popular opinion. Why on Earth any developer / designer thinks it is appropriate to put a save point (the first one in the game, no less) right before a part of the game where you have to fight no less than probably 20 enemies is a good idea is beyond me. This creates nothing at all but frustration. I spent 15 minutes working my way through that mob of enemies in the area surrounding the gigantic bonfire 3-4 times only because I would get stuck on some debris, stuck between a horse carriage, etc. and killed. The fact that these enemies have patrols (and are slow as F) makes it take even longer.

Then when you do get past that part, there is no other save point to be found. Going back to the previous one only sends you to the hunters dream, meaning all enemies respawn. I appreciate difficulty, I hate how modern games are easy, but to design this section, the FIRST in the entire game, this way is just a poor choice in my opinion. Granted, these enemies are mostly easy, but I am all the way to the Cleric Beast and I still haven't found a second save lantern. THERE IS A SHORT CUT you can open up, so that helps.

I also disagree that "all your deaths are always your fault". I've had several occasions where an enemy goes into an attack frenzy and I am "animation locked" as in the game wont let me roll away OR attack back. I don't see how dying in that situation is my fault. You could argue it's my fault I got into that situation (this was a new enemy, no idea what his attacks would be) but the game gives me no way out.

The blood on the ground of fallen allies also works about 1 out of every 10 times I click on them. If this is a mechanic designed to assist players, it needs to actually function.

In addition, I have some questions:

The game says it's auto-saving when there is an icon in the bottom right, has anyone ever seen this?

When does the game actually save? Is it only when I return to the dream?

Any of your personal tips for taking down the cleric boss? I haven't leveled up yet but did upgrade my Cane whip thing (can't remember the name).

I've only used coldblood dew (1), but it gave about tree-fiddy.
yeah seems to me like they ran out of clever names and just started giving them numbers lol. apparently there are items called thick cold blood. It wouldn't be the end of the world to get 20k souls. Theres an ok run from second boss lamp to first lamp that gives you like 2k+. If there's no better run I guess I'll do that one once I have the schematics
