There's an amazing weapon you can obtain that (eventually) scales to B in STR, SKL, & ARC!

It has some of the most useful movesets I've seen in a Souls game.

It's to the right path of the Cathedral Ward, up the elevator. You'll get to a tower that you can scale up. Radiant Sword Hunter Badge is found in chest at the top.

With this you can buy Ludwig's Holy Blade from the vendor in Hunter's Dream for 20,000.

At what level does it start to scale that high? Looks like it starts at D-level.

From what I've seen from streams, it gives you halve the Blood Echoes (splits with host?) and an insight for helping.

It's a damn good way to learn a boss. Was having trouble with
Blood starved Beast
, pulled out my small bell, did him a few times with others, then smashed him.

What transformation are you guys using mostly on your weapon? I have the clever and find myself using the quick saw(folded up) instead of the slower long range clever. I like how it gives you an option on the fly to diversify.

I transform constantly using the hunter axe. Its mid-combo transformation from 1h to 2h is awesome - it's a really strong quick forward jab.

Kirkhammer I generally just leave in longsword mode. When I need to clear out an area I swap to the axe, transform and use its charged R2 attack.

almost beat Father G first try completely blind then i got stuck and died to his jump attack, he was so low on health, ugh. beat him second try and got all my blood echoes back. but man, i wanted to have a nice archive of my first try kill against him. heard he's hard for a lot of people. i didn't have much trouble with him for some reason.
I actually beat him my first try

Skill? Probably not.
Luck? Definitely.

I am almost certain those using the Hunter's Axe are spending 90% of the time with it in the 2-handed state, because that's what I did when using it. The 2-handed mode is ridiculously useful for fighting normal enemies.

The previous games didn't pause either. Its no issue really. Just perch on a ladder in a safe spot and set the controller down.
Actually it is an issue in the sense that not being able to pause is a deliberate choice that greatly heightens the tension. Of course, people will still insist the oddest things like the devs must have 'forgotten' a pause feature, they were too lazy, or they suck at designing games and had to add 'artificial difficulty'. Because pressing start and exit is apparently really difficult to do.

Cleric Beast, I almost had you!

This got me lol

I got him on my first try as well, but it was very close. Great battle.

Hell, all of the boss battles have been pretty great so far. Most of them have been following the Flamelurker template of relentlessness and an enrage mode when low on health (further solidifying the epic failure of GameTrailer's top 10 Souls boss list). Love it.

The design of the boss was great. He wasn't so intimidating that i had to cheese him and i was actually able to just duke it out with him on the cemetery floor. Felt really satisfying

Parried his ass in beast form like a boss

How can I Sunbro? The bell only says it calls others to help. Also, it seems I only have 7 Insight, how is anyone getting 10 to coop on the early boases?

Thank god they changed/fixed the equip screen. After revisiting Demon's Souls a few weeks ago being able to use multiple items is also soooo nice.

Speaking of which,, it makes me really sad there isn't an actual spear moveset. Any type of transforming spear would have been awesome

I expected a thrusting weapon but the basic weapon is just the Saw Cleaver and transformed its kinda a great sword because of the horizontal sweep

i still haven't received the email either but i just found it in the game and it has weaker stats than what i'm wearing so not a big loss.

Oh thanx for the info. Weaker stats isn't worth my time. Now I'm about to dive into that character creation feature. ^_^

People that had no issues with Father G whatsoever: what weapons are you using? How did you handle
his final form?
On my successful run I used the
music box on his beast form
and was able to back stab which left him with like 3% health left. All other attempts I tried to use cane and hammer and would get absolutely curb stomped at the last part.

Lol the npc in the forest,
it's not hard to understand that he's gonna murder everyone if you tell him about the cathedral or clinic.

late game spoilers:

WHERE ARE THE BELL MAIDENS IN THE UNSEEN VILLAGE THAT JUST KEEP SPAWNING OP ENEMIES. IM LOSING MY MIND. I can't find ANY OF THEM in ANY area.

Exactly. Not a glitch.

Yes, it's still possible it is.

Late game spoiler:
The creatures who cast this don't appear until you kill a certain boss. Why I'm not sure if this is intentional or not is because either they're invisible (which I don't think they are, lore wise) or they aren't technically supposed to be there, but the developers just put the data there to not make them visible, but one of them is still able to interact with players early game.

You can backstab him? I have been trying to pistol stun him to varying success, but mostly failure.

I haven't played Rogue Legacy or Hotline Miami, loved both Super Metroid and Resident Evil 4!

Then I think you will enjoy this game to some degree. The main thing is, this game has atmosphere and encounters similar in tone and quality to RE4, and the exploration reminds of the super metroid school of exploration (although there is no map). The thing is, this is a game that teaches through punishment. It will punish you if you're not getting better. That's not as scary as it sounds, as you enemies you learn there patterns, the moments of vulnerability and the effectiveness of space. I'm really just a supreme novice to the souls games, but I'm loving BB and with some patience, and help from gaf you can too.

I found a Saw Spear not long after starting the gmae. Kind of pointless thought. It's not a better weapons than the cleaver and I don't care about range when it makes you attack so slow.

I used the cane and brawled it out with him in regular form and once he transformed I backed up, parried him once, and then his health was so low I just aggro'd him

After using the
music box to stun him when he became a beast
I had plenty of time to setup a backstab with the hammer and absolutely destroyed him. I think I only had to hit him one last time for the kill.

The level design is absolutely mind-blowing. Now that
gatling gun guy
is out of the way I have had a chance to explore Old Yharnam and the way everything connects and opens up shortcuts to skip bullshit is a step above even that of Demon's Souls. Best in the business right here... no question about it.

Honestly, if you can get the parry down, it completely trivializes that fight.

Bishoptl,

the beginner guide (quoted post) in OP is not correct in one important point. You don't need to beat cleric beast to lvl up. You just need 1 insight so the doll in the hunters dream comes to life. You don't even need a boss. Just find the madman's skull item in the area.

From wiki:
Gain insight by entering Boss arenas (+1)
Gain insight by beating bosses (+3)
Gain insight by consuming a Madman's Skull (+1)

Do you mean a charged R2 attack? Or is it a crit animation?
