I really love the Kirkhammer. Fits my playstyle so well. It's damage output in sword mode is almost the same as my Saw Cleaver+2 and it's not even upgraded yet. Hammer is also dramatically more effective than the saw.
I found it really slow, started another character over just to focus on strength, but going back to my skill based character now. Problem is, I have skill like +18 but didn't start with the Cane. My favorite weapons is the cleaver. But I know I would be hitting harder if I had a weapons that has bonus for skill points now. Nothing yet but strength weapons. Man, I need a spear or katana already.

Is that your weapon causing damage over time or the poison knives? I'm assuming it's the poison ones. Btw, I thought he was one of the hardest enemies in the game, I think I have 2 bosses left to kill to beat the game though.

Those are the poison knives that I keep throwing every once in a while. Are you serious though? So if I was able to defeat him finally then maybe I will actually be able to finish a Souls-type game for once? I never beat Demons, Dark 1, or Dark 2.

First time hearing someone kill him.

Really? If that's the case then I'm going to take a screenshot of what the emblem I received unlocked. After going back to the shopkeeper in the Dream world, I have two new weapons now from defeating him. One is 4,000 echoes and one is 8,000 echoes. I haven't saved up to buy them yet but let me go take some shots of what they are right quick.

Walked in on
Father Gascione
while he was jerking it. I didn't have any bullets and only brought 4 potions. Wrecked him. I went from not being able to kill random dudes to this. My poor Souls virginity...

Is the Repeating Pistol worth it? Decided to go with a Skill/Bloodtinge build, for some reason.

Kirkhammer
and
Hunter
set aquired!

oh shit, theres a
key that costs 10k in the store
, let me guess...I need that to progress after the first boss dont I? lol if so, time to
grind 9k echoes
>_>

anyone?

So I just got to
Old Yharnam
and I have only defeated the first two bosses... Should I explore the
Cathedral
or continue through
Old Yharnam
for the third boss?

Same. I was exploring and ran across him and pulled an OH SHIT. He went down fast. I was always a nimble dude in souls so 1 v 1 fights like this don't seem to give me much trouble. Now
asshole on the MG
is another matter.
Finding cover while fighting is a bit rough with how long he sprays
.

Thanks serenewarfare!

That was absurdly easy. I might have to avoid co-op on this first playthrough after that. haha

Sorry about the beginning too. I was sure if I needed to activate the fog gate or if we glitched out.

Either way it was fun. Thanks.

No problem! We crushed him.

I've only just beaten the third boss but each and every boss has been a brick wall for me. I have no problem with the regular mobs, and am in love with the game when I'm exploring, fighting enemies, and unlocking shortcuts, but then I hit a boss and am stuck for like four hours. Gascione made me really sour because I felt like it was bullshit, but I spent almost as long on Amelia and didn't come away feeling like that. I just got really good at learning her patterns. It felt like a Souls boss fight through and through. Maybe I hated Gascione
because the first part is consistently easy and then I'd die before I could learn the patters of form two.

I have to take a shower. I beat that giant cleric beast and that felt so rewarding.

Tips for people stuck that GAF and I just picked up:
-Farm health pots while you learn. And bullets. The area from Central lamp (2nd lamp) to that house usually nets you 2-4 health pots + bullets form the guy in the wheel chair.
-When fighting the beast, make sure you're aggressive. I did a lot of rolling under his legs and got right up on him. When your stamina is half way, use it to back up. Also try doing R1-R1-R1 and back up.
-When the beast throws it's hands on the ground, there's one attack where he lifts you up. That one-shot me a couple of times hitting me just right.
-Monitor it's animations. You'll learn when the time is to do one of your most important moves I kept forgetting about: charged R2 attack!!
-Molotov cocktails to his face when he's charging into beast mode. In my video, I didn't get to do it that much but the round before (where I died lol), I hit him just right.
-SIDE STEP!!!!! This saved me too many times. Just gotta hope he doesn't swing wide and catch you. But that attack doesn't hurt as much as his ground pounds. Worth the risk since you can regain your health quickly by just spam attacks.

Here's my video ftw:

Glad to hear you beat him! :)

cant remember if the souls games did this, but if you die as a phantom and the host manages to kill the boss in time, you'll still get rewarded with echoes, pretty neat

I found it to be just a worse kind of pistol that takes 2 ammo every time you use it, but maybe I'm missing something. It does a bit more damage than the normal pistol but so far I don't see the point in using the firearms for damage, apart from some smaller enemies (not terribly far so that might change).

Tried to kill the gatling gun guy legit,
but he destroyed me. Next time i lock on and shoot, shoot, shoot. He fell to his death. LMAO

I dunno, guys. I've beaten Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2. Got platinum on Demon's and Dark - and yet this game is just destroying me so hard that I'm not enjoying myself anymore. I really want to, but fighting this boss over and over is killing me. I've spent my entire day here and I've even broken my own rules and watched a video... and in the video the boss isn't even doing what it's doing on my end. On my end, he's doing like crazy 7+ hit flurries and shit.

Which boss are you stuck on?

Pretty pissed off

Killed the crow hunter near the beginning because someone told me it drops her gear

Nothing, and now I realize I probably needed her alive for her gear, I want those daggers and that mask

Ugh man

Oh man the blood starved beast is wrecking my shit. I do fine until it grabs me or I need potions/antidote and cant keep enough distance. Its so erratic acting when it enrages. Having a way harder time than I did with Father G. I need backup..

Just pushes his ass off the edge

I just took screenshots of these two new weapons. If you don't want to be spoiled on weapons, don't open this album.

...oh. Well shit.

This game is fantastic. I've only played for around 4 hours. I didn't fight CB because I felt the checkpoint was too far with too many enemies in between, so instead explored the town high and low, which was nerve wrecking and amazing at the same time.

Doing that I unlocked a couple of shortcuts! Woo! With one being fairly close to the 1st boss. Also managed to find a new weapon (saw spear) and armor (hunter set). I'm pretty happy with what I've explored so I'll head back up and fight the boss next. I have around 12000 echoes saved up, but with the shortcut unlocked I feel confident now I'll be able to retrieve them without too much hassle getting to and fighting the boss. I haven't leveled anything up, don't even know if I can at this stage.

Atmosphere, graphics, animation, sound, combat, level design, everything is amazing to me.

Having played a lot of DeS/DaS/DaS2 I died a few times working my way up to the bridge (trying to get used to the combat and take on every enemy). I couldn't help but think about newcomers getting destroyed, just hoping they stick with it enough to get that moment where a Souls game just clicks, and wakes you up to how special these games are.

So I just passed the very beginning area with the bridge and he firey ball that engulfs like five guys.

I need to quit for the day. What do I do?

(First Souls game)

You can dodge that ball. Go up and kill the guy who forced the ball to go down the bridge. Go off to your left up some steps after you've prepared yourself

It's the second boss. Level your stats or use your bell and ask someone to help
