I don't know where to ask this, and it might be a dumb question, but how different is this from Divinity Original Sin? if I liked it will I probably like this game?

Well, what did you like about D:OS? It's similar in many ways, but if you primary enioyed the combat there then this might be quite a bit different. If, on the other hand, you enjoyed the questing/exploration/writing/minutia then there's a lot to love here.

I made a Steam group for PoE discussion or whatever. (quote to reveal) Anyone is free to join.

One warning: I still don't really understand Steam groups, so it's a little Spartan.

btw, I get the reference in the thread title but "You must gather your party before venturing forth" would honestly make a lot more sense

I went through a number of subtitles and thought that one was way too on-the-nose and stereotypical. I'm pretty sure that one is a shoe-in for the Torment OT.

Number One on Steam

I'm stoked! I just generated a steam key from the backer website.
I think I'm more excited for this game since I started playing Pathfinder with some friends.

"So how does PoE differ from those?
It is not beholden to a D&D ruleset, as it is a completely original IP with its own rules and stuff. The world, Eothas, is fresh and not held back by a pre-existing mythology."

Hey, just wanted to correct you. Eothas is a god in the game. The world takes place in Eora, more specifically the Eastern Reach region.

Is there a written or video guide to the basics (combat, attributes, classes, etc) that can be read/watched in less than an hour? The video guides in the OP look nice, but I don't have several hours to dedicate to watching them all.

Will fix.

I also was going to do an Uptown Funk animated .gif, but figured the lone reference was enough.

At long last this game is finally here... and it has truly the greatest of OT.
NeoGAF truly are Pillars of Eternity.

Watch the 3 Sensuki vidoes in the OT. All of his videos are chaptered in the video description if you want to skip to specific parts at your leisure.

I HIGHLY recommend you watch them. They are BY FAR the best sources of beginner information and is intended to contain barely any spoilers. They are good for everybody actually.

Watch them.

Need to finish Divinity OS tomorrow. And then unlearn being used to the turn based combat.

Starting on Hard just to see how quickly I'll get destroyed!!

I'm just saying.... I have a feeling this game will have one or two more dialogue skill checks than Baldur's Gate ever had.

if it doesn't, I want my money back!!!!

Torment will have to be "updated my journal" or some variation of that.

oooh I love this

Hey guys, hope this is ok and doesn't get me in trouble, but first guy who posts a few details about his planned character: name, class, race, and a sentence or two about his background, gets a Hero edition key + digital goodies, once they are released on the backer portal.

Chanter. Cipher. Rogue. Can't decide. Smarty pants rogue, Smartass Chanter, or just SMART cipher.

Maybe all 3?

Either way, there are only 2 games that would pull me away from Bloodborne, and this is one of them.

Edit: love the Avellone sketches. Thanks for sharing.

help me gaiz

I'm confirming my KS pledge over at the Obsidian Backer's portal
I backed the $20 Tier

is it worth going up to $35 or even $50
any nice digital add-ons?

Digital Audio Book of the Novella by Chris Avellone
Digital Download of Expansion Pack
Digital Download of World Almanac
Digital Strategy Guide
Obsidian Order of Eternity

all these look rather interesting >.>

EDIT - nvm stayed with the $20 tier.. will get the Royal Edition upgrade down the road

Salsa (original)

gonna be a Death Godlike Barbarian

im gonna be a child of the kith that bashes everything in it's way. truly earning the title of godlike, son

machine of destruction straight outta hell, that's the background

basically always do these builds till I get more accustomed to the game's nuances!

Salsa better not already have the game....

Name: Grief
Class: Fighter
Race: Godlike
Background: The great Grief came down to fight his enemies, but in the end he found himself

I totally forgot that I backed this even if I have never played a CRPG for more than 2 hours, haha.

Oh well, time to check it out, maybe this is the one that will finally get me into them.

I'm ready!

I wonder how many people picked a GOG edition over Steam.

I did...

Its Evilore not Evillore ;)

At least this OT went smoother than the Bloodbourne one.

I will admit that for the longest time I really thought it was Evillore...

Yeah, I thought the consensus had been this because it did seem to be a direct nod the BG series which PoE is the spiritual successor of. Still, the title is fine.

Torment will have to be "updated my journal" or some variation of that.

This is my vote for torment.

Basra Ciy a'Var
Rogue
Human - Deadfire Archipelago

Background

Basra Ciy A'Var never met her parents; she says her birth-name and day were revealed to her by an enterprising suffusilier she had paid a beggared five-piece to for a divination, when she was seven. For reasons unknown to her, she was born into spending the early twenty-odd years of her life as one of the many young table-maids of a corrupt merchant. When her adult-strength fully manifested, she hoped to end her servitude and her own miserable life when she gutted the man from navel to heart with a silver steak knife, in front of the armed guard captain, at the annual South Watch banquet. To her shock and horror, the man did not collapse in a bloody pool like she expected, but instead aged a thousand years in seconds. The stench of necromantic magic blew in all directions as he disintegrated into dust before her. For Basra's service in dispatching the long-disguised ghoul, the captain granted her freedom from servitude and a tidy sum of coin, which was enough to buy her own small lodgings in a dank corner of the city docks.

However, Basra was sorely uneducated in living the free life. Those next five years were even worse than the life she had while indentured; full of abuse, murder and debauchery. But, through it all, Basra was never the victim or cause of such torments, only an ever-terrified witness... as if, whatever gods that had abandoned the city to vice long ago remembered that they had mistakenly left one of their own behind, and ensured her safety.

It's a character for a novel I've been writing, but I actually created her back in the Icewind Dale days, fleshed-out a bio and everything :o

I used her in that OT adventure thread I made too, a few months ago.
