Got my ass handed to me by the two werewolves on the bridge like 10 times, which I assume are supposed to be easy. My first time actually trying to fully beat a Souls game (I tried and quit both DS and DSII after 5 hours due to new games coming out). Don't want to quit this one though. I'll try again tomorrow.

Threaded Cane and Blunderbuss if you're wondering.

don't fight them, go around lol

Oh yeah, besides the negatives in my last post, chalice dungeons are totally worth doing. I fought three really cool unique bosses so far that could have easily been in the main game. Seriously, start working that chalice.
My compulsions could make the chalice dungeon the next item-world from Disgaea for me, where i go to level and grind a ludicrous amount just because i can for the next playthrough. It pays of to just start one Chalice as soon as you get the ability to once you do and get good you really are not in short supply of blood vials, bullets and insight.

I feel like theres multiple paths from there. Am I going the right way?

I just faced 2 gigantic you know whats--one of which (after the first) had a huge wrecking ball on a chain.

EDIT: Scratch that, door was closed near the chest.

Right where you find the first gigantic guy, head right to find the gate you need to open with that key.

I tried it.
I even made sure not to wear the Kirkhammer, but he attacked me anyways. And by attack I mean he immediately rolled off the side to his death.

I think you need to have the set before you even open the door to Old Yharnam.
That's literally all I did before I got the set - I opened the door and turned back. But apparently opening the door must be the trigger, unfortunately.
I put the set on before opening the door. He still attacked me. I found the reason why:
You need to kill Darkbeast Paarl before entering the area while wearing the black church set for him to not attack you.

Use molatovs, my friend. Two shots and they all dead. :p

I'm basically walking in, dodging his first incomming attack and then go on a pattern of:

1. Wait for boss to stop swinging; I move in and do a 3-button R1 attack.
2. Immediately roll away twice, pop a heal, roll away twice again, pop another heal.
3. Turn to face him; activate Music Box; Repeat steps 1 to 3 again two more times.
4. He enters Beast Mode.
5. I Die because his Beast Combo doesn't let me get off the ground.

I've been dumping more stats into VIT and END, hoping it'll let me survive longer. No luck so far.
Try rolling/dashing towards him when he attacks instead of away (
except for his spin attack
). I know it sounds odd but since you are moving different directions you will usually end up behind him and can quickly counter attack. For the last phase just dodge away until he finishes a combo and then burn him to death. Also make sure you are far enough away on the phase change to not get knocked down by it as that makes a rough start. As someone else mentioned you can do oil first but I would be surprised if you didn't kill him with 2 molotovs. The last phase is brutal with his damage, speed and reach so vit and end aren't going to do much to help you.

I can not fucking beat the
blood starved beast

Every one of his attacks one shots me in

and I can't seem to counter any attacks with blunderbuss at that point

I just warped out of the second half of
forbidden forest
fully cleared up until what i assume is the boss to spend 50k, but oh god that hurts to acknowledge i have to rerun this area.

Just finished it. Sorta lengthy write up below.

Really good, though I'm not sure how it stacks along with the other Souls games yet. Starting up a NG+ game.

I think the biggest strength of the game is the setting and tone. I LOVE the Lovecraftian elder god kind of mythos and while we've gotten some of the in the other Souls games, this one takes that and turns it up to 11. In fact I might say that aesthetically this nails that kind of tone better than any piece of media I've encountered yet. Especially toward the end when every monster just looks completely jacked.

My biggest problem with the game (besides load times... yeesh those are awful) so far is that it didn't feel like you were rewarded for exploration like you were in other Souls games. In those games exploration might unearth a cool new item or armor however this game's very restrictive weapon-set and interchangeable armors made that not really an incentive. While the weapons are indeed amazing (I used the cane-whip and mercy blades in my run), the very limited selection meant that you weren't finding items very often. And the armor didn't vary a whole lot statistically which meant it felt like every piece of armor I found was mostly just for aesthetic differences.

As a side note, I felt the game may have been a bit short (my finish time was somewhere between 30-35 hours) and I had a MUCH easier time of the bosses than I usually do in a Souls game. Now I definitely didn't uncover everything and I didn't spend much time doing Chalice dungeons, but I felt like Dark Souls 1 and 2 were more in the 50 hour range.

As for bosses, I only died on 4 of them, and 2 of those I beat on my second try. The other two were a half dozen tries each, but one of those was the first boss where I will still sorta coming to terms with the mechanics. One thing I noticed early on is that while the general strategy in bosses in Dark Souls 1 and 2 was to circle strafe and wait for an opening, the strategy for most bosses in Bloodborne was to wait for the boss to start their attack animation, dash or back out, and then once it's finished close in for a hit or two. If you're having trouble on a boss, try to stay in front of the boss, relatively closely, and wait for them to go through their attack animation, then dash in. Works on most of them, especially the "Beast" ones.

I do like this game, but I do think that without the kind of build variety and the sense of exploration you get in a Souls game, this one might have less staying power. I felt like maybe I enjoyed this one while I was playing it more, but that I'll probably not play it as much.

what worked for me was trying to dodge into his attacks behind him.

Speaking of Insight, I'm guessing the number in the HUD with the eye-symbol is I guess what we might as well call Soft Insight. It doesn't seem to go away when you die, how do you activate it?

He's a pain in the ass. You don't have to fight him, though, I don't think. So, you could just move on to the next boss and come back to him later.

I didn't do this when I beat him, but I'm curious how well Rope Molotovs would work on him once he starts beserking. He stays right on your ass, so I was curious if dropping those behind you would burn him as he chased you around.

Any tips for the first area? I love the souls games but am getting super frustrated. I've made it to the two wolves on the bridge but I keep dying. Should I be buying better equipment before heading further in that direction?
Use your gun! They are quite easy to parry and ripost with their huge swings.

Jesus Christ.

So after the 2nd boss I've been going through the level
dodging the fucking gatling gunner
with no particular difficulty (even though it was tense as shit the first time and reminded me of the Anor Londo archers but actually fair)
kill the hunter at the base of the tower
with no particular difficulty and laid waste to
every single beast in the cathedral
yet again with no particular difficulty.

Yet I have now died like...10 times against
the machine gunner on the goddam roof. Like...he hits so hard and fast it's fucking brutal.
First big roadblock for me, which is hilarious, as the motherfucker is optional. Pride won't let him live though.

Anyone know about the white-clad hunter in
Byrgenweth
? Also, so weird to have two bonfires so ridiculously close to each other. Especially when the forbidden woods are a pain to traverse, even with the two shortcuts opened. Glad I beat
Shadow of Yharnam
on my second try. It was close though.

Don't know where to go next other than finally fighting the
darkbeast
.

Losing my mind...

Father G is wrecking me constantly.

I farmed the town up to level 24, Hunter Axe +2 now and bought all the upgraded gear from the bath merchant.

*Spoiler warning*

I also have the music box and use it a couple times during the battle, but he still wrecks me.

Seems like once he gets into Beast Mode, I'm dead.

Should I just keep farming Echoes until I'm like level 30 and just out-level the damn boss? lol

He is stupid easy is to counter with the blunderbuss in
beast mode

I decided to stop leveling yesterday and continue the game while helping low level people get past bosses 2,3 and 4. I do it for the new blood. But I don't help them completely. I charge the bosses and knock them down to below half health, trying to show them not to be afraid. then i take some steps back and take a seat. I watch the rest of the fight, encouraging people to finish off the bosses. It's kinda entertaining. I also feel it strikes a balance between helping them move forward and facing their own fears while improving their playstyle. If you summon someone named Terteryan, don't expect him to finish the fight for you.

So you get Gascoigne to below half health and watch him change in to a Werewolf and proceed to kick the shit out of players who think they have your support? Don't be afraid of the giant super fast Werewolf!!! attack that motherfucker!!!.....Host has died...returning to your world.

I like to think that the people who felt it necessary to summon me are doing so because they are struggling and need the extra hand. As long as I see people engaging in the fight and not hiding in the corner they have my axe till the end :)

Dodge aggressively to the side+a bit forward.
His attack is very slow.
I think his basic combo is like 2 swipes then one long swing then into a downward+forward swing.

Run past the wolves and
unlock the shortcut. Between the wolves and the next big ogre guy there's steps to the left leading down into a house. go to the main floor, open a door and go up some steps to unlock a gate and voila the lantern. Now you can get back to the bridge quickly

To be honest I never even bothered beating the wolves, they were too hard

Do I need to go down ladders? There's a hole next to a house that looks like it leads into a sewer.

Use your gun! They are quite easy to parry and ripost with their huge swings.

I think I may be missing this gameplay mechanic. When exactly do I shoot them? Mid swing to stun? I feel like I'm not using my gun effectively. So far the best use I've found for it is to stun dogs.

Nope, you went the wrong way. That is before the wolves.

You need to go
past the wolves towards the far end of the bridge, but turn left shortly after them. If you reach the big guy and crows you went too far. It's a very narrow path leading down into a darkened room.

At BSB (3rd boss) with bell rung if someone would like to come help (using gaf passcode). Had him at like 5% on my first attempt but my next few have just gotten worse.

Got Ludwigs Holy Blade and leveled it up to +3. Pretty decent weapon as it interrupts enemies attacks unlike my cane +5. I'll probably use both unless I find a better skill based weapon. Oh and I just lost 30,000 blood. Not too bad.

Anyone else go back to the clinic where you start the game? There's a woman all the way up some stairs which I didn't even know we're there until I just happened to backtrack a little...

Thanks, so by going past them you REALLY mean going past them lol. That's going to be tough.....

Finally beat Vi
car
Am
elia
on my fifth attempt.
I realized that staying away she would mostly use some easy to read and easy to evade attacks

I'm still finding the cleaver to be the best weapon for bosses. I'm using Ludwig’s Holy Blade for regular enemies and it's awesome, but at least in this last boss battle I didn't find the extra damage to be worth how solw it is (the clever wasn't deal that much less damage and is MUCH faster)

I'm not sure. I seem to have no problem finding folks to engage in jolly cooperation with. If anything, the response to search another online player seems to be much better than Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2.

I have no problem finding people, but once I do it is lag city.

What was your opinion on the "Eye of Sauron" stage that gave you frenzy in its light. I have not seen anyone who figured out what that Brain in the abyss does

Well beat third boss, for me at least,
Blood-Starved beast
. Didn't know where to go next so I just started roaming around and got killed by a tough guy and
ended up in the unseen prison, took me some time to get back out of that
. Great, terrifying, unplanned adventure. Still have no clue where to go now... Have a few possible ideas. Feel like I need a rest before continuing though.

Haven't left my couch but I feel like a tired adventurer... errr... I mean hunter.

Thanks, so by going past them you REALLY mean going past them lol. That's going to be tough.....

Just sprint as fast as you can between them and
keep your eye on the left, it's easy to miss the path as it is kind of hidden past some boxes or something. Run down the path (there may be a dude there) and into the house. The wolves cannot fit through the door so once you're inside you are safe...except for the other guy waiting inside there.

I talked to her when I began the game. She gave a a strong blood vial, but I haven't touched it. I can't even put it into storage for some reason.
