Played for a little bit last night and beat the second boss. What an ass that guy was. While I was able to beat the Cleric Beast fist attempt, it took me a few times to defeat the second, mainly because the camera is a fucking nightmare in this portion.

I used the
music box
item to stun him during stage 1 of the fight. Stage 2 is the part that kept killing me because he's so quick to attack, which knocked me down, and before my recover animation was complete, he'd knock me down again, repeat until it killed me. However, what I discovered is that sometimes, if you keep mashing the "O" button while you're recovering, sometimes you'll dash out of the way of a potential follow up hit.

It was mostly a battle of keep away. I ran around behind the trees or fountain to gain some breathing room and heal when necessary. Then, I'd lob a Molotov at him when he'd do an attack that had a bit if a recovery time. Despite having a +3 weapon, I just couldn't get close enough to him to hit him safely, so Molotovs it was. I had 10 molotovs, and used 8 to finally take him down.

I only used lock on sparingly, and only when I was trying to bait him into using his overhead attack that has the recovery time. I did get a little reckless towards the end, and lobbed a final Molotov at him as he was lunging towards me. I stopped for the night after that. I'm really looking forward to this weekend, so I can really spend some time with it.

The learning curve in this and the Souls games is so damn satisfying.

Yesterday I couldn't make it past the first group of enemies without major troubles, let alone the first boss. Today I easily beat the 1st boss and am exploring all over.

I've avoided summoning in Bloodborne so far, but helping people is such a great way of getting to know a boss's attack patterns in a low-risk environment. I've always played Souls games that way, I'd really miss it if it were gone.

Exactly it is fun after struggling so hard to just mess around with a boss since the risk is way lower.

Why do people play this Co-op ?

I understand this game is very hard but that's one if the rare games that gets difficulty right.

If you play this coop and sail through every boss in minutes then you're BUTCHERING the game.

I take quite a bit of joy in cheesing and coop'ing the bosses in souls games. I also enjoy helping other people do the same.

In the first area, just before a shortcut gate there is a house with a few mobs in it and a guy in a wheelchair that's shooting at me.. Is he an NPC that I made aggressive somehow or just another mob?

She's a covenant leader IIRC, so you can't do her quest now or join it. The rewards for joining are the same as the stuff from killing her but you also get a gesture and a rune IIRC. Plus the covenant of course

And apologies if it's been asked a million times, but do we know the level range for co-op? My friend and I think it's +/- 15 now but we're not sure.

Wait, she's has a
covenant?
How, what, I mean, she just gave me a couple things. How do I
join her covenant?

It's fun and not everyone wants to spend hours trying to beat a boss. Plus I enjoy helping others.

People should be able to play the game they want to. I love helping people in co-op that may be stuck or too frustrated. Using something that is intentionally put in the game is not butchering it IMO.

I'm with you, this is my own journey. I could see myself do multiplayer after I've beaten the game.

I did Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 solo, not giving in now.

In some cases you could watch people beat the boss for you and do little effort.

Pretty sure its not meant to be that way ,but to each their own.I guess

I'm almost as excited to see Lobos/Elajjaz speed running this game then me playing through it

I''ll be busy until next year easily lol

Off to the 3rd boss we go

Just another mob

When in doubt, try locking on. You can only lock on to NPCs after they get aggressive.

Having trouble with the second boss?
Specifically when he goes into beast form.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Honestly, I didn't use the music box because it leaves you pretty open to his attacks. Just focus on parrying his attacks and he'll drop pretty quickly. For his
beast form
I used a molotov to halve his remaining health and just waited for his attack, dodge roll to the side and power attacked with my cane.

For people asking about the first boss, use a molotov
on his head
do a vicious attack and he'll
go blind, making all of his attacks much easier to dodge
, I don't know if you can stun him again after that, but I'm not sure you'd need to.

My play style so far is use the whip for large groups, the cane for single enemies, and when in doubt, molotov.

Parry him in beast form? Or after using the music box? Is it even possible to parry him in beast form, I haven't even tried because he is so intimidating.

You totally can! in fact I didn't have the music box so it was my only option. I parried him two times and killed him with visceral attack. I used my pistol as a machine gun haha.

I should try to summon people more often. It never works for me, I get bored of waiting, and I end up going and killing the boss the next try.

I never summon people. I just like the satisfaction of beating bosses alone.

But I love helping out other people. It's fun, gets more experience and you are helping out someone who might be having a hard time.

Yesterday after beating the third boss I just stayed there for like half an hour helping people beat it

Not cheap at all. The thingy reminds him of his past and he staggers. WARNING. Do NOT use it more than twice during initial form and ONCE during second transformation. IT doesn't help a lot but gives you that opening you need

When you use the box there is no parry as he grabs his head and staggers. Do a R2 charge attack during these times. I got him so close last night, down to a sliver of health 3 times and finally had to go to bed. Tonight, he dies by my axe.

Last night I didn't even use IT during the first section, dodged, rolled and hit him fast on his backside 3-4 times before backing away. Used a molly once or twice to stagger him and get a breather to recover health.

For the second section I used it once when he got close. Did a charged R2 attack and followed up with another attack. He was very low at that point and I had full health so I charged in and started swinging, got behind him near the stairs and finished him.

Boss fights are so damn awesome, they really force you to think and prepare and get better.

According to fextralife, the starting pistol has 20 more points of damage than the sexy gun I want (Evelyn). However, The pistol caps at A scaling with Bloodtinge, and Evelyn goes up to S. You guys think the scaling will bump up the damage of Evelyn enough to beat the pistol at around 25 Bloodtinge? This game has so many cool weapons that I don't know what to level up or if I'll have the materials to max all the ones I wanna test out.

In most souls games, scaling like that is more useful when you have like, 40-50 points in the relevant stat, basically because they aren't hit quite as badly when you go past the stat soft caps.
Good to know that some weapons scale well with bloodtinge though. When I looked at the wiki it was saying they always scaled D >.<

Bloodtinge build here I come.

Question about online.

Do you know how the game matches you?

I am at the third boss. Will it only match me with people who haven't beat the third boss as well?

Wait, she's has a
covenant?
How, what, I mean, she just gave me a couple things. How do I
join her covenant?

I'm not 100% sure but I think she does. I know one covenant gives you the crow set for being part of it, so at the very least it should be related to her in some fashion. Otherwise, all you get from her is the badge for her stuff, gestures, and a rune for helping her fight some hunters at various points.

So I was wandering around carefully, getting further than I've ever gotten before on one life and I made it all the way to the
pig in the sewers
. After killing it and ascending this long ladder I happened to notice on the left, I snuck past some unfriendly looking creatures, then up some stairs. I saw some open area ahead and had a general bad feeling that I probably should backtrack...but I kept creeping forward, then BAM -
CUTSCENE
.

I had just initiated the
Father
boss fight. I kept hearing about the
Cleric beast
as the 1st boss encounter, so I totally wasn't expecting this. I guess I completely missed boss #1 somehow. I took about half of his health before dying and subsequently lost all my blood echoes on trip back there. ARG THIS GAME!

yup it's such a great feeling to run through an area and decimate everything that once made you cower in fear. The awesome part is that you overcome the challenges by becoming a more skilled player.

First Souls game for me. Made the obvious mistakes of rolling too early or trying to get too many extra hits in. Took me a few hours to beat the Cleric Beast but turned into a cakewalk after I got some molotovs and stopped locking on when the camera for so close.

Now I wish I wasn't at work right now.

thx Nami!
No problem :)

The people I helped all got involved in the fight. It's different for others of course, but so far, none stood back and watched. Well, there was that one guy who took me all the way from Father G to Central Yharnam but I left before finding out what he needed help with.

And if it wasn't the way to be, why include the option in the first place? Let people enjoy the game the way they want to.

Finally reached Father G. for the first time last night, Got to take away about half of his Energy before he killed me, I am really liking the fast paced combat on this game.

I wonder with Lobos because he loves doing really weird runs with certain specs and weapons. Maybe he will have to do NG+ runs since not all the weapons are quick to get.

I am so dumb. I couldn't figure out how to equip my weapons at the very start of the game. I thought maybe it was a glitch, or something...I tried discarding them to see if maybe I could equip them after obtaining them off the floor....lol.

I have to admit that I got stuck on this for a couple of minutes too.

Call up the menu (not the "inventory" -- that's one of the options, but don't select that). There is a row for right hand and left hand weapons, armor, and quick-use items. Select the slot you want to equip something in. For example, if you want to equip your axe, select on of the right-hand weapon boxes. That will call up a list of equippable weapons. Select one from the list and you're good to go.

Yeah, I have gotten him so close. Like, a sliver of health but then I just panicked, ran out of stamina and he got me. Man, I was so close. I have a new plan for tonight, though.

Its so addicting and awesome

Between this and MH4U.... I am in gaming heaven right now

SOO GOOD

They give you the ability to summon so early in the game and make it cost a resource. I am pretty sure if it wasn't meant to be that way they would lock summoning until you have completed the game.

Of course it's meant to be that the way. Some people don't want the same level of extreme challenge as you.

It's mainly a SP game. Play it the way you want and let others do the same.

How do I cash in stuff like
the madman's thing
from the sewer to get insight? Or the consumables that are supposed to turn into blood echoes?

You just have to equip it, selec it pressing down on the D pad and using Square to "use" it

That gear is amazing. Where can I find it? I may have to trade up my crow hunter set.

EDIT: It kind looks like a ragged Sith warrior or something. So nice.
The armor? Find (enemy + what to do ->)
one of those cloaked enemies that carry a bloody bag over their shoulder and let him kill you
, then (location->)
you should appear in a new area, explore it, the armor is somewhere outside
.

Not being too direct, it's an awesome thing you should explore yourself.

thanks for adding the newcomer guide. Never played a souls game and being rudely introduced. I look on twitch and on here and people are mowing down bosses left and right and I am still killing trash/barely surviving in yarnam. I have only played twice so after watching some stuff I recreated a character and went with the axe. I need to do better at using the gun for stuns, but the axe in long-form seems to work much better for me, at least. I also did upgrade to hunter gear, which, even that felt like somewhat of an accomplishment for me. People have tons of the insight, and I don't even have the 1 to reanimate the doll chick lol. Trying to keep it in perspective but when so many people just make it look easy and I have to work to remain calm and not button-mash like I'm accustomed to, it's definitely something for me that I think will take time. But yeah, on my 2nd go, I started to get a better feel for the dodge mechanic and survived a lot longer. Load times suck when you die this much, lol.

But yeah, I totally get the addiction with these games now. To me, it's hard as fuck, but it really makes any progress I make feel completely legit.

Edit: I also killed the cleaver-guy that decapitated me on the first attempt. baby steps, man

I had the joy of playing this last night for about an hour. Combat seems good. I literally have no idea where to go though and some of the bad dudes... well that massive dude behind the door smashed me to bits. I did like no damage. Guess I better find that first boss and get leveling!

Yeah!!

One of the first Advanced Techniques you have to learn and micromanaging when to lock on and when to free aim

This is a MUCH easier transition for MH players I feel lol

Or just enjoying it in a different way...?

Yeah i guess the way the game starts is kinda limiting the kind of challenge runs he does
