I don't understand. I've been trying to kill rom
the vacuous spider
for over one hour. I just can't. No matter what i do i can't dodge
his blue shit falling from the sky.
I just watched a video on youtube and the guy wasn't even trying to dogde and it didn't hit him. The
spiders
sometimes one shot me.

Oh well, maybe i should go to another area and come back later.

Each time spiders came I killed them before attacking Rom. Dont use lock on so you can keep an eye on Rom. Kinda lure the spiders apart and attack their bodies to kill them quick. When Rom lifts his legs he is going to use the blue projectile attack. Wait for him to land after he lifts his legs and dodge from left to right.

I never locked on and was able to evade the projectiles. His other attacks are easy to dodge, just roll away from him. Hope this helps!

Holy fuck I love this game. Just killed bsb after 4 deaths, feels good man! I'm officially hooked. Easy GOTY contender for me. Best game of the generation so far.

The game keeps leading me to dead ends, i just killed amygdala and then what? i got a chalice, but i'm not sure if it matters in terms of progression.

This game is just not for me. I've tried for days now to beat the first boss and I just can't. I've tried over and over again. After I lose, I grind in order to stock up on supplies for the boss only to lose it again in a vicious cycle. I'll have 20 health packs, 20 bullets and 10 molotovs each time. I'll shoot him and then stab for a decent amount of damage and then I'll throw 10 molotovs at him. And then after that, I get fucking REKT. I try to dodge him and get behind to attack his left arm and just have no luck. I get fucking hit every time I try. Oh well, I gave it a fair shot and I just can't do it. I'm fucking terrible at it.

Finally I can play! And my first thoughts, woah! Found myself spending 40 minutes in the character customization only to come out of it with the bastard emo son of Gary Oldman's Dracula :D

I played Souls but never truly 'got' it as I just felt overwhelmed and couldn't grasp the mechanics or arena like structure, this feels for me the perfect tonic. I know some core fans may dislike that accessibility but I love it's more open structure. It feels like a true spiritual successor to Castlevania to me...if only I'd known that before I named my character although I don't think Simon Beaumont would fit (names are too short I think!) a well, Jefri Smythe is kicking it up now!

One minor niggle, the frame skipping/adding thing is a little janky, mostly when adjusting the camera, but hopefully the incoming patch will remove that distraction. Shame I'm at work today, I just want to dodge, roll and slash away. So glad I picked the threaded cane!

Enjoy people.

Funny, I was having so much trouble getting to the first boss (partly because I went with Waste of Skin, partly because I very recently played through DeS and was having some trouble readjusting, partly I was getting impatient and rushing into things), but once I actually got there I took him down on the first try rather comfortably. Just staying on his ass made that fight a breeze, lol. And finally I've leveled up! Now I'm only a half-waste of skin, feels nice. Excited to keep going now that I'm over that initial hurdle.

I'm ready for NG+

After you beat the spider boss (iirc) she'll be outside Vicar Amelia's boss area in a puddle of blood. You'll have to go and fight a hunter that's waiting inside that area.

JESUS CHRIST this fight is some bullshit.

it can even fucking heal.

Man what is the strategy to this guy.
At the end he is just an endless spew of poison it seems. Before that I have to dodge 90% of the time cuz his Attacks move him so close to me

How valuable is the skill attribute? to 17 for some reason and the dmg bonus to the 3 weapons I've bought and leveled seems minimal.

Also, when is a good time to buy the cathedral (?) key the bath messenger sells for 10k echoes? I just killed 3rd boss.

i just got my shit pushed in by this

You can cheese him super easy, you don't even have to attack.
Just engage him and start backing up. At some point he'll damage himself and it will keep ticking off his health. If you go stand behind the doors at the entrance of the church he'll reset and walk back to his starting position, but his health will still keep ticking off until he's dead. If you stay engaged with him he'll heal himself and his health will stop draining so be sure you get outside of the church before he does that. I just "beat" him doing this and I didn't take a single swing at him, it's pretty broken.

Bone Marrow ash is really strong. I just used two to help me finish off a low health boss late in the game. Don't underestimate it for big, sudden damage.

Kill Paarl.. dress in full Black Church Attire.. He will be friendly.
NG+ it is!!

Can I just undress afterwards and kill him?

Are you talking about Demon's Souls? Because Dark Souls has a very similar Metroidvania-ish open world structure. The run up to the first boss in BB almost felt like a grittier reimagining of the first main area in DkS to me. And yeah, I vastly prefer that structure to the individual levels in DeS (as good as that game is).

Depends on your weapons.
Do they scale with skill or not? And how well do they scale?

And I would say as soo soon as you have 10k to spare.

I gave the little girl the
red jeweled broach
... Mistake?
You're just losing out on a gem (I got a 2.6% phys UP-gem). That gem can however be equipped in slot #3 (many runes can't).

The damage bonus you get is base on the scaling rating of your weapon. If it has a e or a d in skill you won't get much. as you reinforce your weapon with bloodstones scaling ratings will rise, but "skill weapons" generally the higher the letter the weapon starts with on skill the more likely that letter is to improve as you reinforce. make sense?

Its gonna take awhile but I literally just made him follow me down the stairs and when he started backing up I would hit him with the whips R2 attack! When he would start rushing me I would dodge and go through the large doors you use to get into the area cus it seems he cant go through that lol it takes awhile but hey atleast he'll be dead!

How am I supposed to return to Souls after this?

Died blindly running back to my bloodstain and fell down the elevator :(
I really hate that you have to pull the level on an elevator each time. Also I call bullshit on the Cathedral Ward elevator because there is clearly a floor there and yet I just clip through it and die.

I was feeling the same way, but I leveled up my axe once more, actually started using the pistol, and things got more manageable. Make sue you are fighting the Cleric Beast first. Father G is tough if you aren't completely ready for him. There is one trick that helped me with father G in particular.
there is a sort of side quest you get from a little girl behind one of the locked house doors. She'll give you a music box. Put that on your quick use bar, and use it after he goes beast mode. He'll get stunned and you can wail on him, then back off and chuck maltovs at him. Goes down quick this way

Stick with it! You'll do it!

You just me doing something wrong. I'm guessing it's father G?

This happened to me on stream, it was the most hilarious shit ever. I was completely baffled by how stupid that looked!

Erm, OT threads move REALLY fast for this game. Nice to see Souls-like games getting some love :)

Damn work and life, I have managed to play only few hours, but I have beat the first two bosses! Parrying..excuse me, firearm interrupts are extremely important in this game, I have found.

I'm not using lock on. I watched some videos and it looks so easy. They don't even bother killing his minions. But when i'm playing it's completely different.
Thanks anyway. I'll try again later.

Thats my question. The next game (if there is a next Souls game) is going to have to be pretty damn intricate and have some good combat / blood effects.
Could/is it even possible that Miyazaki would be making DkS "3"?
It's not hard to return to better games :3
All three Souls > BB in your opinion? Interesting! Do you feel like expanding on that statement? I would love to read it.

Oh fuck I need to sink more time into this game so that I can get this gear.

Weird question but how many of the transformable weapons are there? I had it in my head it was quite low but really I have no idea.

Every weapon is transformable in some way

Oh god no, I meant Dark Souls 1. Although to be fair I loved 2 and dont understand the hate, and i didn't finish Demons, I didn't particulary like it (I'd love a remaster I bet I would love it now).

I far from finishing BB but it already has too many step backs, inexplicable ones sometimes, to put it over Dark 1. Plus Dark 1 was my first, so it's special.

I asked for help and no one responded. I asked a bit even. I got the boss down to a quarter of health. I'll beat it. But I'm not going to ask you lot. You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to buy a red bell.

If you're between 40 and 60... Ring that bell. I'll respond.

Glancing over this topic, there's so much I've missed and skipped. Little girl? Music box? Crow?

I can hold my own in fights, but damn if I'm unobservant. I haven't found a single fake wall either.

What say you GAF, no "Ornstein and Smough" in the game? And with that, I don't mean two hard bosses at once but rather when you reach that point you're like "ok, this top 10 best boss in video game history!"?
