Eh, The only difficult thing about Father G is the area you fight him in.

Yeah my first time with Father I was able to get him down to about 10%. After he transformed he immediately destroyed me. I wasn't sure if this was the infamous Father boss everyone was talking about. When I went in the next few times I definitely had a harder time as I kept rolling into the tombstones. Only took about 2-3 more attempts to down him. Ripostes are your friend in that fight.

So has anyone found the abandoned workshop? It's a secret area that pops an achievement.

Gave the small hair comb you find to the doll in Hunter's Dream and she gave me a tear stone. Not sure what to do with the old hunter bone I found in the workshop, it is greyed out all the time.
I assume maybe you use it later in the game. I'm only at the 4th boss.

The bone is this games version of spells, it has an arcane requirement which is why its greyd out.

Have been doing some chalice dungeons, gotten to a depth 3 layer 3 one.

Boss is the spider rom again. At first I though no problem did it in one go during the story. But this guys magic missiles seem to nearly always hit me not sure how to dodge them as during the story they always missed. Also its last phase new attack where it flails around is annoying as hell. Taking a break for now

Really enjoying the chalice dungeons though the jump in difficulty on the high depths ones make it seem i need to do some more leveling. Also I can't really see myself doing anymore of the randomly generated ones, there isn't enough rewarding loot to find in this game for that kinda thing imo.

I love the Threaded Cane, but goddamn the first boss
Cleric Beas
t is tough with it. Best I've done is got him down to half health. The narrow environments definitely don't help.

Anyone got any helpful advice? Also, where/when do I get the summoning bells?

First Souls game besides spending 30 minutes with Demon's and not getting back to it. Going slow and exploring everything I can, love the world and environment. Took out Cleric Beast on the second attempt. First time he was down to 30% and I got stuck in the environment. Father G went down the first attempt. Looking back, he almost killed me in phase 3. Now back to catching up on this thread and hopefully more progress tonight!

Just wanted to share this gif that happened last night. The animations and hit boxes are amazing.

IGIXgM.gif

Geezuz! That jump right after the shot was amazing.

Has anyone found a guide yet for the "Hunter's Craft" trophy? (Hunter's Craft - Acquire all special hunter tools. )

All of the normal trophy websites i usually go to as well as the wiki have incomplete locations on some of them.

How do I get past the
giant laser monster in the Unseen Village? Feels like I should just ignore everyone and leg it but keep dying

I'd really love to focus on this new area I'm trying to get through, but instead I'm forced to warp to an old area to farm vials. I don't get how that's good design.

That's weird, i'm not remotely very good at this but i constantly capped my blood vials through the entire game, i hardly can pick up any this point

By the pig ladder is a lift taking you to an area right next to the first lamp.

There is one... if you used it once.

Did you reach the elevator? If not you have to take the shortcut that's on the bridge with the two big dogs.

There's an elevator at a side of the bridge but if you didn't activate it then you're screwed and must do all the work again. Don't forget to activate the elevator! it's just at the side of the stairs of the bridge.

FUUUUUUUUUU- I found the elevator and tried to activate it, but it said the elevator was inoperable at the time so I left it alone. So now I have to fight the werewolves again and all that other bullshit!? FUUUUUUUUUUCK MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

So I've got a summons
it says to get the stagecoach from Hewick Crossing but where is that? I've cleared out Hemwick including the witch and I went back over the area and couldn't find it.

I think he transformed and killed his wife. I mean, look at the guy, he's not exactly a model of stability.

Agreed. You find the...
blood brooch there and the little girl talks about how her mother had it and that her father was a hunter. Seems clear to me that Father G is a former hunter that killed his wife. But easy to miss if you haven't talked to the little girl and got the item.

Any ideas on who Gascoigne's
father
is? Just playing through the beginning again and the girl says she loves me as much as her
graddad.
Feel like they wouldn't mention that if it wasn't signifiant, seems random haha.

Well
after she says that you can hear a beast roar from inside the house I think. I assumed they just had the grandad locked up in beast form or something.
Not entirely sure on this though.

Downed Cleric Beast by whipping him like a bitch.
Damn, the i frames of those strafe is insane. I wonder if its applicable to PvP as well.

Help at the very beginning...

I barely started the game and I've gone a bunch of times already through the first area where I climb the first ladder, go through a couple roofs and then go down through a street with a bunch of people and a square at the end with even more people.

I got to the other side of the square where there's
a big guy bashing the door, but now the guy went running up some stairs and I have to go through them to get anywhere, but the guy is so strong he just kills me, and
I don't want to just venture past him running only to find even more enemies on the other side...

Am I doing something wrong, or I should be able to kill
that huge guy
(remember, I barely started the game), or what...? I don't want any sort of big spoiler, but just tell me if I'm going the correct way and I should somehow get past that guy, or I'm maybe going the wrong way?

(added spoilers in case someone who hasn't started the game is reading this)

So about that
cannibal guy
in Forbidden Woods, what should I do?

I'm afraid the moment i invite him to the church he goes batshit and kills everyone. But then again, the old, annoying grandma looks like she's going to go mental as well.

Damn why does the Cane have to suck? Started with that and was just getting nowhere, reset and picked the Axe and didn't die until Father Gascoigne.
Does the Cane get much better later on? or would I just be better off sticking with the Axe?

Stick close to him. The invincibility frames on you dodges are really good letting you go straight through his attacks. When he enters phase two back off when he charges up and a red circle appears.

I managed to cheese it somehow. I just ran as well, couldn't be arsed with the mobs in that area. Just hug the left or right wall when running, don't go down the centre.

Trick for those two doggies on bridge....
Throw pebble to lure back to house. They cannot come in door. Extend your weapon and cheese hits through doorway.

LOL, dat jump.
Eff you bitch! I was a track star in high school.

But the area is what makes him easy. Just
cheese him around a bunch of gravestones.

Or get stuck on some yourself. That is what is so difficult about the fight. He's not that hard, the terrain and getting stuck while dodging will be your downfall.

You weren't using it properly! Having used both, cane is way better in every early-game situation except cleric beast itself, and even then you just have to hit it more.

Use charged R2 to set up crit chances, and use the whip form for mobs, ranged enemies, and shit. Also you had to pick the right backstory.

No need to go through werewolves.

Spawn at Great Bridge, fall down from the broken bridge column after the Crow/Brick-Man, go to the place with the dogs, and from there you can reach the place again.

That is hugely helpful, thanks!
approximately where is the password door?
thanks again!

Sorry, got busy with work.

At the bottom of the steps leading up to Vicar Amelia. Go to the big round area where the two giants are roaming where you first used the 10k souls key. There is a side path on your right if you're entering from Ameila's steps.

Kill the mind flayer looking mob and other guy then follow the path down. You'll see Churchbro on the way down as well IIRC.

This game still has that buffering shit. Is it useful? Why is it still there? You get mobbed and do try panic dodge, nothing happens because you're mid-animation and then 3 come out.

I have watched some co op and pvp videos.. It looks like players have 2 names displayed above their characters.. What's the second name that is shown above their psn name?

Man, these Chalice Dungeons are incredibly amazing art wise. Oppresive as fuck.
I'm now at one that looks straight from Tomb Raider 1
an underground garden

Couple more questions:

The crow hunter lady you find in the first area, I went back to see if she had something new to say after beating the 3rd boss and she's gone now. Anyone know if she appears somewhere else?

Also Can all enemies be visceral attacked? Or just some? It seems you can stun most enemies if you sneak behind them and hold R2, but not all enemies can be followed up with the R1 attack. At least that's what I've noticed. I want to make sure I'm not screwing up and that not all enemies can be hit with the R2 stun + R1 visceral.

Click on the right-side of the touchpad to open a shortcut menu where you can store an additional 6 items. I only discovered this by accident when I was trying to emote.

It's so useful for summoning items and the less essential/situational stuff.

So that's what that's for, thanks. I'll have to try it out later.

I've only been able to play a couple hours a day since launch, but will put in some good time this weekend. I'm loving how every day I'm making progress, unlocking shortcuts, figuring things out on my own.

Yesterday, after playing to raise my stats a couple times, I accepted that I probably wasn't going to make much progress this day, but decided to check out an area I hadn't been to yet.

I found a new weapon--some kind of
spear
, the
elevator
shortcut, beat the sewer
pig
and killed
Father G
on my 1st try, (fake edit) and another lamp. I called it a night after that, productive session after all.

Quick Q for people in the later bits of the game (I assume I'm late game now)
Moon is red, can't go back to Hypergeon Gaol. I didn't kill the electric doggy there. Have I mmissed out or will I get there by going through the Unseen village or whatever?

How do I get into a chalice dungeon? I beat the second boss and I feel like if I didn't read about them here then I wouldn't even know they exist in the game.

Demon Souls was one of my favorites of last gen but I have to say I think BB is better than all of them.

Game is also gorgeous, some really amazing art direction

I offer this rebuttal; Hunter Axe's polearm charged attack is the best thing ever in early game. You get a crazy amount of range and knockback on almost everything I've encountered up till now. It's like a homerun every time i hit something.

How do I get past the
giant laser monster in the Unseen Village? Feels like I should just ignore everyone and leg it but keep dying

The very first one near the lamp?
I just ran straight through, there's a Bell Maiden somewhere in there you should kill or she spawns shit. I don't remember any of the enemies following all the way in.

The big guys at the start of the game are the best way to learn how to parry>reposte
Btw from the save point, pick the right route that goes up, it's the standard way to proceed for the big open area full of mobs

I'm in the
Unseen Village ?
after the third Boss. I think i'm wrong here. How can i go back or do i have to fight my way through ?

Now at Father G's doorsteps.

Urgh, I need to figure out how to have better awareness of the surroundings. I'm getting my arse kicked by the gravestones more than I am exploiting them.

What enemies were you hgaving trouble with? Every I tried to visceral attack a regular enemy I've succeeded.

Are the tomb stones in the hunter dreams showing progression? Like I should not move to another tomb stone until I finish everything with one?

Personal effects shortcut was such a great idea that I can't believe it wasn't in the series until now. I can pop my heals right on it so that I don't have to keep switching between items, and my summoning items can go right there so that my quick item slots are only for consumables.

It's really the little things with this game.

I'm playing with no HUD and this feature is huge for me.

It's better to kill the huge guy.

The best way to do this is to counter his attacks with your projectile weapon (pistole, shotgun) and then stab him with R1 when he's stunned (a sound will be triggered and he will go down on his knees).

If you need more help, I can write more. :)
