I offer this rebuttal; Hunter Axe's polearm charged attack is the best thing ever in early game. You get a crazy amount of range and knockback on almost everything I've encountered up till now.
Eh, I know what you're saying bit it never worked for me that well. If you miss (or its a boss that doesn't get staggered) you're fucked, and if you hit your stamina's always completely depleted.

I like the axe too of course! But it's actually amazing how much easier the beginnings been for me with the cane haha, I didn't believe the cane people before.

I have watched some co op and pvp videos.. It looks like players have 2 names displayed above their characters.. What's the second name that is shown above their psn name?

The top name will say cooperator or adversary. Also they can use their PSN name or character name.

Couple more questions:

The crow hunter lady you find in the first area, I went back to see if she had something new to say after beating the 3rd boss and she's gone now. Anyone know if she appears somewhere else?

Also Can all enemies be visceral attacked? Or just some? It seems you can stun most enemies if you sneak behind them and hold R2, but not all enemies can be followed up with the R1 attack. At least that's what I've noticed. I want to make sure I'm not screwing up and that not all enemies can be hit with the R2 stun + R1 visceral.

Regarding Eileen the Crow: Go to where you fought Gascoigne...make sure you are ready.

Stick close to him. The invincibility frames on you dodges are really good letting you go straight through his attacks. When he enters phase two back off when he charges up and a red circle appears.

Should I try to be dodging like under his legs? He usually does a few hit combo when I get close, so I can't attack too much as it is. After a few times trying I ran out of vials :(

You weren't using it properly! Having used both, cane is way better in every early-game situation except cleric beast itself, and even then you just have to hit it more.

Use charged R2 to set up crit chances, and use the whip form for mobs, ranged enemies, and shit. Also you had to pick the right backstory.

The Axe's R2 just destroyed everything for me if I timed it right, I did use the clever you can find against the Cleric Beast though, just because It was faster. I'll try the Cane again later, because I think it looks amazing, but I just kept failing with it.

Watching epicnamebro's videos now, been a while since I watched any of his videos. Amazing how much I missed in the environment and lore even though I've been taking my time through the game and reading item descriptions.

I'm still not far in the game so it's nice to watch someone take a fine tooth comb to the early stuff. Learned a few tricks already too.

Should i level strength or skill?

What weapon are you using?

Dodge sideways to circle around him.

Another tactic for his second phase onwrds is just to wait until he does an attack that lowers his head and then do a jump attack. Deal enough damage to his head and you can visceral attack him.

Damn, I just beat Father G for the first time on my first try. That was a badass fight.

I find the transformed hunter axe owns everything with the strong attack.

Now at Father G's doorsteps.

Urgh, I need to figure out how to have better awareness of the surroundings. I'm getting my arse kicked by the gravestones more than I am exploiting them.

if you got the music box you can use it twice while he is in first form. Forget the tombstone and go to the right where there is a big tree. keep him behind it and hit him with your two handed strikes. Once he transforms, use the box immediately, go to BACKSTAB R2 then hop away and two molotovs will kill him.

Man this thread moves fast!

I'll repost my questions regarding online, and hopefully someone sees them:

Is it dedicated servers? Or peer to peer?

What region is the servers if I have a US ver. Of the game? And a US PSN account but I'm playing from ME/Asia.

What about the network settings, if I choose local will it be local to my IP address, Game region or PSN region?

I live in the Middle East but with US PSN account (long story), so I rather play with people in my region or even from EU rather than US because of latency (lag) issues.

Trying to coop for the first time. How have the servers been? I'm not having much luck getting summoned for M
artyr L
, at level 61 which I thought would be about right for this area.

The load times are almost killing this game for me. For a game with as many deaths as a Souls game to have load times this long and additional load times to the hub is awful.

Rum and cokes are good distractions.

They are working on a patch

Played for about an hour last night (mostly just trying the three starting weapons...going to roll with an axe / blunderbuss) and yup, woke up this morning thinking about it so it's officially got it's hooks in. On my first run, got destroyed by the mob at the fire...remembered it's a souls game...took my time and destroyed them all easily the second time. I missed this style of combat.

Haha, I'm still repeating "grant us eeeyyyees". Spent at least five minutes running around trying to figure out how to get past the iron gate when he was at 50% health.

10 bosses in now...the game keeps getting better and better.

Same, despite the relative ease of the boss and getting lost for awhile, I actually really enjoyed the fight.

When is a good time to start the first chalice dungeon? Got the first chalice but I'm confused on which tombstone I should use it and what those options for creating it are.

Are the general items in the store unlimited or auto-restocked? For example, can I grind out souls to buy a bunch of molotovs?

Cleric Beast kicking my ass even with my +3 pimp cane. I think I've explored everywhere I can without killing him or the Father, since I accidentally ran into Father and he wrecked me.

The big guys at the start of the game are the best way to learn how to parry>reposte
Btw from the save point, pick the right route that goes up, it's the standard way to proceed for the big open area full of mobs
When you say the save point, you mean Central Yharnam save point, after the ladder?
It's better to kill the huge guy.

The best way to do this is to counter his attacks with your projectile weapon (pistole, shotgun) and then stab him with R1 when he's stunned (a sound will be triggered and he will go down on his knees).

If you need more help, I can write more. :)
Uhm so it seems I do have to fight this guy then... I'm so scared, lol. I have some 3600 blood echoes which are probably nothing for you guys but still feels like so much for me... I don't wanna die! :(

I found it really bad early on but after I couple of bosses I started dying a lot less which made it more barable. Besides, gives us time to post on gaf!

I thought I was going to struggle with the load times, but it's actually been a good moment for me to take a breather and think about what an idiotic move I just made lol

So I opened my first Chalice Dungeon last night after defeating the
Blood-starved Beast,
and I got as low as the third level. After beating the third boss, there was just a lantern in the room with seemingly no other way to go downward.

Is there an easy way to know for sure if you've cleared a Chalice Dungeon?

When you say the save point, you mean Central Yharnam save point, after the ladder?

Yeah the "seond" savepoint after the clinic take the right route so that you can pick enemey apart easier, wat weapon did you choose? if you have the axe, charged R2 against the big guys is a godsend :)

Just got passed the second boss
Father G
, now into a new region of the game entirely. Any fears that I had that the game would have trouble exceeding Dark Souls 1 are gone, I can tell that this is a fully realised successor and brilliantly designed. I love the new combat system as well, the game is so tightly tuned around this pace. I'm loving it, can't wait to keep exploring
Old Yarnham
.

The anticipation for this game has been driving me crazy! My favorite game series of all time. My CE arrived yesterday - Keeping the streak of getting the CE for all the souls games (DS Deluxe Edition is still my prized gaming posession).

Just killed the second boss with the help of some bell bros and really enjoying it so far. getting used to not turtling behind a shield but I think the combat benefits from a faster pace.
I still haven't decided on which weapon I prefer but so far I've been mainly rocking the blunderbuss + saw spear combo and it's been working pretty well. Just levelled my strength high enough to use the kirk hammer but I don't like how the transform is 2 handed and I can't use my gun.

One minor thing that kind of throws me off is that the enemies actually talk - for some reason I find that more unsettling. It's also interesting that some of them call YOU a beast when you take them down....

Yes, you can buy as many items as you need. Hint for CB
Do NOT lock on to him. The camera will kill you. Toss an oil on him at start and use fire if possible. Just watch for his 3 swing attack then he stops to catch breath. Get in a couple hits and BACK UP. He is not one to stay between legs. The camera makes it too confusing IMO

Also since I beat
Father G and got the Red Jeweled Brooch. What should I do when I go back to the little girl?

If you keep it you get a gem for weapon. IF you give it back to girl you get nothing at the moment but later a quest will be available. Get paid now or find out what happens later....your call

Wait what you can open the Dungeons after the third boss? how?

I killed the fith boss but the tomb still doesn't open for the Chalice

Boss in the castle down

that was epic

started messing around with the hammer last night... holy shit at the charged attack. connect with that and I'm one shotting the big dudes. immediately dumped my blood shards into it. <3 <3 <3

Well returning to Cleric Beast after levelling up skill a bit made a huge difference with the cane. Felt good to finally take him down.

The nice thing about the larger bosses is how slow they are

You get lots of opportunities to use your strongest attacks (charged r2s) and you should use them liberally

You. Are. Going. To. Die...
Repeatedly and often!

I'm just fighting him now. Seems like an amazing fight but I'm feeling a bit under levelled, what level are you at? Maybe I just need to get gud
I am definitely overpowered (lvl 78)
