Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Trying to emulate Marty for Halo 4 would have been the wrong move. He's in a league of his own. Having some one do a pale imitation of him wouldn't have worked. The best move for 343 was to go in a different direction. Hence Neil Davidge and a more electric sound.

Well said! It was different, but also familiar. I really did enjoy it thoroughly.

Nah, it's not bad. I guess I'm just to attached to Marty's version of Halo music.

Playing through Halo 4 as we speak. Man, 343 are wizards in terms of visuals. This game looks better than Destiny in certain spots.

Halo 4 looks phenomenal on the Xbone.

Doing exactly the same right now. Im using the Xbox screenshot function every 5 seconds. Still sad there was never a theatre mode for campaign, hope to hell 5 does.

My personal issue with Neil's work is that some of it was straight out of Transformers, Alien and Star Wars. Playing Halo with out the score was like playing Zelda without the Fairy fountain theme on Player Select. It was odd.

That small snippet of the Halo theme after exiting slipspace was like water in the desert for me. - https://youtu.be/GbjA6rB98Yk?t=38m5s

Crazy I was just watching this too lol. I was going to comment on how I didn't care for that part of the H4 soundtrack with the straight up John Williams sounding theme, which was worse considering it was followed by the monks. Not that I hate John Williams, it's just that was one of the places in the Halo 4 campaign where I completely lost immersion because of how out of place that sounded.

Just me or does that sound like something straight out of Marvel?

Marty probably first but it sounds so like Marvel.

You think? I love this rendition. I only ever get a "Halo" vibe from it.

It does have a splash of Epic Movie Theme I guess.

Hah! That's exactly how I felt.

I was slightly stunned at how odd that piece of music felt during that cinematic.

.

Just recent memory I suppose, marvel everywhere. I've listened to it a few more times and the Halo-ness does come through more than it did before.

What? The Halo 5 Announcment trailer was an absolute failure. And the only Halo trailer in the history of Halo trailers to not get me hyped.

Doesn't even compare to the believe campaign, or ODST, or the Remember Reach campaign.

Halo 4's ads also destroyed it.

Massive disappointment.

Why didn't you like it?

Also, it was just a teaser, just like Halo 3 had the "gods and daemons" teaser two years before it came out, so you can't compare this one commercial to an entire marketing campaign.

Gods and Demons was amazing though. I still get chills when the Chief walks out of the dust and Marty's score starts playing.

I really liked the Halo 4 soundtrack, it was fresh and grand. Awesome tunes to accompany epic moments. Most notably the end fight towards the Didact and the flight section. All was good. Marty's tracks are of course classic, but a new composer needs to make his own mark so I wasn't clambering for a predefined style. Anyway, maybe its best to move this kind of discussion the Halo OT in Community.
