I started one, and it boils down to the same thing -- only that's the strategy for some normal enemies as well. Hit once or twice, roll away, wait for opening, etc. Not very fun. The Defiled dungeon mechanic is actually really, really poorly designed from a "fun user experience" point-of-view.

Fuck defiled. Im stuck on the watch dog they showed at TGS or whatever.

No one likes that fight because its almost impossible to get a summon there IMO. My strategy was pretty easy:

Two hand your wep, ignore adds, run to his ass, R2 charge, run away, repeat, dodge meteors, win.

That has been my strategy thus far, however even then I seem to get nearly killed when he does his AOE and before I can move fully I'm already overtaken by the horde.
I'll just keep at it, I am getting closer each time now.

It counted, but I lost all the blood that comes with him since I couldn't get there after I killed him.

I only got there half an hour later, and sadly got killed several times in the path.

When you run from the meteors, make sure you change direction a lot because it anticipates your movement so if you are running away in a straight line then it will hit you.

So my first try at

almost resulted in a complete victory until I was suddenly and unceremoniously one-hitted. Now I can't kill the damn thing at all, not even a little bit. Tried ringing the Bell but I get nothing. If I go to offline will ringing send me an NPC?

When he summons forth

the Ice Comets, don't quickstep/roll in one direction, sprint and zig zag/quickstepping forward left and right and then keeping your range close to Rom while killing his Adds from the side(flank), Ironically Rom's weakpoint is the same as his adds, so if you punish him good enough you can even stunlock him out of the teleport with R2s or Charged R2s. Keep swinging as he teleports because you will still do damage, just like in the Witch fight. Arcane Buff and Fire buffs do the most damage and you are going to want to do Charged R2s perhaps with the hunter Axe in two hand mode for the double sweep. Second and Third phases, same strategy just watch out for when Rom Thrashes, Explodes with a AOE attack, or summons the Ice Comets from below, there's tons of tells for all his moves and honestly, you just have to be nimble and stay within close range, then the fight is easy because he won't summon the above ground ones unless you are at range.

That mechanic is gone, replaces with transforming weapons by pressing L1. Some weapons go 2h when transformed but not all

Yup. Idk if you're ready yet though. If you go off to the sides you can find other bosses. The left is the easy side.

I dont think there is anything in the area with the giant dudes yet. I circled around there and didn't come of anything. Probably later though.

I was in front of the catherdral ward and some grim reaper looking thing killed me. I woke up in some jail cell, forgot what the place was called. Found a crying girl, a few 1 hit kill monsters and a boss that made me shat myself.

I wanted to keep exploring but when I went back to hunters dream I noticed I couldn't go back. There was more to explore too but I didn't want to lose my souls and needed some more supplies

Tried repeating my steps

If you're summoning for a boss just go through the fog. They can't prevent you from doing it and get booted out.

Pretty interesting who we find to be the hardest or easiest bosses. Everyone has very differing opinions. I don't think I've seen such a gulf in the previous Souls games that much. Pretty cool.

I had such a gulf with the first Dark Souls; did Ornstein & Smough and Capra Demon on my first tries (by the skin of my teeth, wasn't a cake-walk at all), but got stuck over and over on a couple of 'easy' bosses like Iron Golem or Bed Of Chaos.
