Level 44 and haven't upgraded my vitality at all yet(lvl 13). How screwed am I? Tried to fight
Paal
, got slaughtered, so I went back to fight
Amelia
and won.

So true. I had to battle
Eileen
for her weapon because I missed a part of the quest. Took SO many goes.
Between that and Amelia I spent ALOT of time in the Grand Catherdral trying to beat up female characters with not alot of success :(
Both great fights in different ways though

Some other good hunter encounters too. Though fuck
the 3 of them in the gaol

Yup I agree, just fought Ioefka in the CLinic and had to get my 70k echoes I had from going through the forest! Pretty intense.

Meh. I beat both of them with the same vit. You can definitely get through game but it becomes incredibly annoying when regular enemies are killing you in 1 to 2 hits. Some one recommended getting to level 20 and its worked out great so far.

Look, I know some of you folks are gamers with superhuman reflexes, hahaha, but really, for us normal folks parrying can very often a very difficult thing to do and if you fail, 100% at a time we will pay very dearly for it... so that thought alone will make many of us normal folks (hahaha) much more immediately and reflexively choose dodge instead of parrying.

With that in mind, I am not sure calling it "too effective" is an apt description for it, considering it can be very hard to perform and it carries a very severe penalty every time you fail to pull it off, especially against bosses.

. I walked around a bit and I found a backdoor to
Iosefka's Clinic.

WTF. What the fff... I'm speechless. I have no idea what is going on in this game anymore. Are those....

Strangely exciting how game can keep up the surprises after few hours of the game.
 
I knew the witch fight was
way too easy to not have a catch. Died once because I let my guard down and got hit with the blue balls and she slit my throat while her minions slashed at me lol.
 
These things with the eyeballs that cause frenzy are ridiculous. Even with all the frenzy resist i have that bar fills so fast. Use up all the sedatives i had just killing one.

. It was just as I found a shortcut and was on my way to cash in my blood echoes too, so I was followed into the cave where the lantern is.
I sat down, the guy hit me once or twice, probably confused, all the while I was equping numbing mist.
I laughed so hard when he was dodging and you could clearly see he was trying to heal himself multiple times, but couldn't.
 
I have 10 insight after a couple of hours, should I be hoarding it or spending it?

My point is it trivializes bosses once you do have it down. It takes practice but once you know the timing for parrying, you can do it fairly consistently and at that point the three best fights in the game become nothing but standing there and waiting for them to attack.

I get your point. It's tough to pull off. There is a huge reward in doing so. However, again, once you can do it, you can do it so consistently that the fights lose what I love about them. And having the mindset of "just don't parry" is kind of silly seeing as how it's one of the few forms of defense you have in this game.

As it stands, Flamelurker, Artorias, and King Allant are still the best fights in the series because of their mobility, spacing, and lack of a "cheese" way out.

No harm in spending it on random stuff, but keep in mind the merchant will go away once you go below 10 insight.

But no need to conserve, especially in late game where elemental paper just starts costing ridiculous amounts of echoes. Insight comes a lot easier and cheaper by contrast.

Yeah, I'm currently fighting her and it's making me rage hard.
Those tentacles are extremely annoying, you think you dodged a move well and then one of those fucking tentacles comes after and swipes you >.>
 
Can anyone advise as to whether I should bother upgrading my starter weapon? I'm using the blade-saw thing and after 2 bosses, I've only encountered one extra weapon and it's not as powerful. I want to upgrade, but I'm worried of spending all my upgrade things (can't remember what they're called) on it and getting myself stuck later on.

So I have beat 4 bosses so far
Cleric Beast, Father G, BSB, and Witch of Hemwick
...Because of the latter boss, I know where
Amelia is
. I have heard that the world changes after that fight, and I was wondering what bosses (if there are any) I can fight before

. Can anybody tell me, as well as where to find the areas that they are located in? I'm not recalling any locked off areas/branching paths that I haven't been to yet. Thanks!

Got her 3rd time and found it pretty easy. I posted a few tips, probably a few pages ago now. Fastest thread.

Basically stay behind her if possible or to the side of her. Careful of staying on the side too long though because she has an attack that can cover there. When she turn into you she should be close enough for her to do her grab attack which is easy to dodge and get round the back of for some free hits. If she backs away and faces you move in on her, she'll telegraph an attack from left or right. Dodge THROUGH the attack. If you go the other way the timing seem tougher, because she swings around a bit and seems to catch you. You should then be on her side where you can maneuver around to her back easily for good damage. If you can stay close her party trick at the end shouldn't be a worry

No offense but I'm just glad I'm not the only one having trouble with her. I haven't seen many people talking about her and was wondering if I was crazy or if I just suck.
 
When I watch videos of boss fights they all look so calculated and easy, the player I watch makes a ton of mistakes and rash attacks and never gets punished for them. Then I start fighting the exact same boss and get wrecked haha.

All part of the learning I guess!

Upgrade away. You will eventually find loads of the first tier upgrade mats.
 
So from what I'm reading it seems that an arcane Ludwig's build is pretty OP? Even compared to a str/skill build? Damn, if only this game had respec. I guess this build will have to wait for either NG+ or a new character

Yeah I'm already sticking to the side/back and can dodge most things, my main issue is that she basically kills me almost instantly every time I fuck up (NG+) :/

This is what I did
I avoided the little spiders and kept sprinting in and getting a couple hits then sprinting out, locking onto Rom really messes you up though so don't lock on. After it's down to half health it will send either icicles from the sky or from the ground, when it gets on his back the attack will come from the ground.

Loving this game so far. I'm not a particularly skilled player (only beat Demon's Souls, couldn't do DS1&2) and so after hearing all the trouble people had been having with the 1st boss I was preparing for the worst. Beat him 1st try and FG as well so feeling like a badass!

Wow, holy shit I just bought
Ludvig's Holy Blade and upgraded it to +4 or 5 and holy fucking shit, with the runes I have on it it is incredibly powerful.

EDIT: Arcane stat also seems to effect your damage done with Torches, Flamesprayers, and Molotovs. Interesting, just leveled my Arcane a bit and the damage went up.

Wait, arcane actually helps with Ludwig's holy sword? I've been putting all my points into strength, only at about 15 arcane right now.

Flamelurker could be semi-cheesed by using the skeletons in his lair as barriers (similar to graves in an early BB fight).

Anyways, the window of opportunity for parrying seems much wider than it ever was in the Souls game. I could never pull it off consistently in those games, unlike BB.

Here's my tip for how I beat him, don't even let the fucker use it. Of course, you go close and the mooks become the real problem, so clear the mooks carefully near him while avoiding the AOE attacks (which are highly telegraphed). If you're having problems, use strong, AOE swings if you have heavy weapon, and go for one or two hits, and don't lock on so that you can constantly monitor the big guy. If you get hit, get clear and heal. Once they're clear, wail on him; he's easy alone. Rinse and repeat; he'll only call on the mooks a total of 3 times in the fight.

That fight is the most trouble I've had with any boss playing these games (Dark 1 & 2 and now Bloodborne). I'm sure it's easy once I figure out exactly how to approach it, as is often the case with these games.
 
Chalice dungeons are tedious as hell. Having to farm to open up more dungeons. Also bosses become HP sponges in the higher/deeper chalices, and they hit way harder than any main game boss, it's getting ridiculous haha.
