Man I got so freaking lost in the forbidden forest yesterday. Ran into news monsters that look like a ball of snakes; is that the right direction?

Also I found a fire gem and put it on the tonitrus, my question is does putting a fire gem negate it's inherent bolt damage?

I spend the better part of yesterday night fighting my way through the Forbidden Woods, this area makes me wish this game had a map because it is confusing as fuck, but eventually I found the boss of the area, the Shadows of Yarnam, did well enough on my first try until
the last shadow summoned a giant snake that can apparently one-hit kill me, shit was so infuriating

This Boss battle is so far the worse I've had, fighting multiple enemies that are constantly rushing at you shows that this game's mechanics are much better suited for 1-on-1 encounters. I've done worse and worse each time I've tried, but at least now I manage to memorize the route to the Boss.

Any tips on how I should be approaching this one? I tried summoning help, but couldn't get anyone to show up, I'm wondering how that works, would the bell attract helpers anywhere on the woods or you have to be close to them physically where they would appear? if so then it maybe be best to stay near the lantern to wait for summon.

Another fight where you need to pick your shots and take it slowly(at least that's how I did it, YMMV).

I killed the fireball throwing Shade first, followed by the flamethrower and finally the Katana wielding Shade. The snakes you just need to see it coming and dodge. I was circle strafing the entire time and trying to split them up as best I could. Another strategy I've heard of is to whittle them all down to very low health and finish them all off quickly, thus eliminating the extra powers they get as each Shade dies.

How far into the game is F
orbidden
W
oods
? I am at the initial lamp and haven't done much in the map. Is it about the half-way point?

Anyone have an extensive guide to how co-op with a friend?

More relevant right now -- can as a level 103 character in NG+ go help my level 96 buddy on his first run? He was on the grind hard -- still hasn't beaten Vicar Amelia, it's kind of absurd -- I was hoping I could just run through the rest of the game with him If I kept my character level pretty even.

You could.

The range seems to be calculated with
minimumLevel = YourLevel - 10% - 10
maximumLevel= YourLevel + 10% + 10

What's working best for us is actually ringing the small bell first, waiting a few seconds and than the summoning bell on the host is supposed to be rung.
Might try that. :)

That's a bummer, is the last fight obvious ? I want to clear the optional stuff but not now.

It's very easy to tell that you're about to face the final boss. & if you want a hint: (not really a spoiler)
the doll will tell you to so something, don't do it until you're ready

I found taking out the
fire spewing shadow
the best tactic, after that it's just dodge, attack, dodge, attack. Was a fun boss I thought.

Have you opened the shortcut? It involves two lifts and makes the run to the boss about 30 seconds.

I'm probably alone but I loved the whole forbidden forest level, some great enemy variety and those
mushroom things were insane
.

Quick end game question:
I'm still quite early into the game (5th boss) but I'm working toward the "true" ending. I have 1 umbilical cord from the hunters dream area and I've sent Arianna to the chapel for the 2nd when I dispatch her baby. I believe you get a third from killing the wet nurse boss. Is that all I need for the ending and is there a 4th cord?

The last question
Killing Iosefka after you defeat Rom

Yes and also yes

So how much difference does Fire ATK make?
I can set my blood gems to have 160 Physical ATK +65 or 160 Fire ATK +18. Which one should I choose?

I fought
Paarl
late in the game (post-
Rom
) and he made short work of me pretty quick. On the third attempt I threw on some Bolt def, came at him hard, discovered his "trick", and he barely got an attack on me. Almost felt sorry for it since a visceral took more than a third of his health and I took him out of his form immediately after he reactivated it. Ended up being nearly a pushover.

OK thanks.
Where can I find her to kill her and can I speak to her prior to killing Rom?

Teleport to her clinic and speaks to her from the front of the door. In order to gets to her more personally, you need find a shorcut to her clinic from the Forbidden Woods.

Wondering this also. Does the Fire ATK +18 completely cancel out any Physical ATK bonuses you have attached?

Also, when I attach Fire ATK to the T
onitrus
, it doesn't add anything to the stat page, but enemies will go on fire when hit.

Any advice on which stats to upgrade as a Military Veteran? I use an Axe, most of the time two handed, sometimes one when I want to use my Blunderbuss to parry.

I'm thinking

+3 Vitality
+3 Endurance

What do you guys think? Or should I -1 endurance for +1 strength? These are the default values for Military Veteran.

VIT, END, STR.

What is all this NG+ talk I'm hearing? Is it an abbreviation for something you'll find out when nearing the end of the game? Or am I supposed to know from the get to?

It stands for New Game plus. If you finished the game, you can start over with the same character while keeping your stats/ weapons. Enemies usually get a significant boost in health and damage.

I don't know if this has been addressed. I found something that might be related to how people sometimes report their bloodstains going missing while there aren't any enemies around that have them.

I got killed in one region (
Nightmare Frontier
) losing around 7500 echoes. I quit the game for a few hours then when I started again I travelled to another region via the Hunter's Dream (
Lecture Building
) and there were blood echoes on the floor in that second region. I picked them up and it was the number I had lost. I never died in that second region (ever).

I guess for now I'll just go with Physical and without the third imprint until I have other Blood Gems that complement each other.

This is what I started as and I stuck with VIT, END, STR, and SKL. Points start to become less effective after 25 so don't focus too much on one if your weapon has attributes in both Str and Skl.

All the physical "base" damage will be converted to fire, the +18 is just the scaling bonus, if the weapon's base physical damage is 150, then after using a fire gem on it the weapon will do 150 "base" fire damage & +18 bonus scaled from arcane.

Strength increases physical defence and poison defence, but only changes my r-hand weapon attack from 118 to 119. Seems a bit…pointless?

At early levels I would put everything into vitality. Weapon damage scaling wont come into play until you get your weapons properly upgraded and low endurance isnt that much of an issue in BB.

Being one shot by a boss is kind of a bummer.

You're not alone. I really liked it too.

It becomes more and more twisted and mysterious as you progress deeper into the forest. You can easily get lost there. The first introduction of
these tentacle guys
was cool.
It was also a welcome change in atmosphere compared to the other areas of Yharnam you explored before.

I found it really spooky when the shadows of yharnam slowly walked out of the fog the first time you fight them.

Is
Witch of Hemwick
optional? What is the benefit for killing it?

Yes.
You get the Rune Workshop Tool that allows you to use Runes in the altar in the hunters dream

On a side note, T
he
O
ne
R
eborn
is really handing me my ass, hardest boss so far.

Military veteran is a great starting point, especially if you want to be a melee fighter. Eventually, you want to max out endurance at 40 points. Endurance controls your stamina bar and that bar is the single most important thing in the game. Any points in endurance after 40 are worthless however, as the stamina bar maxes out and stops growing.

Put points into Vit as needed, definitely up to 30, and depending on how much you die, you can even go as far as 50.

For your actual attack stats, it really depends on what weapon you are going to want to use. The letter grades for the stats on weapons show how well those stats scale. If something has a D in STR and an E in Skl, you get more attack power from STR than you would from Skl. The scaling power grows as you level up the weapon too.

If you like the Axe, I believe it is mostly a STR weapon.

All the physical "base" damage will be converted to fire, the +18 is just the scaling bonus, if the weapon's base physical damage is 150, then after using a fire gem on it the weapon will do 150 "base" fire damage & +18 bonus scaled from arcane.

Good explanation, thanks! So any % increase to Physical attack wont work, but a "+4 physical attack" would likely stack?

Do you know what's happening with the T
onitrus
? Is the fire effect just visual, and no actual bonus damage is applied because of the
bolt damage?

Strength increases physical defence and poison defence, but only changes my r-hand weapon attack from 118 to 119. Seems a bit…pointless?

That's cause the weapon has poor scaling with strenght now. After you upgrade it the benefits are larger. If you're at the start yeah put points in VIT & END.
