It's almost as if there was a trailer that featured SMT characters, and at every investor meeting they kept having it SMTxFE. If anything, they should never have released that first trailer. The problem is that they set fucking expectations and then pulled the rug on people that actually like mainline SMT. I don't give a shit if you actually like Persona, but this was a bone that was being thrown at mainline SMT fans especially in a deluge of Persona 4 garbage, and instead it was just a god damn bait and switch.

I'm a little bit confused, on one hand I don't see much of SMT besides one part of the trailer that shows what seems to be some city ruins, which I hope will be a big plot point.

I really thought they would change the name to PersonaxFE when I watched the trailer because of the school setting and colorful look. Maybe it is the FE art giving the game more of a bright and happy look.

But I really like what I see right now, I feel it's something new rather than just being restricted by "darker" themes/art/etc of vanilla SMT. Also, I liked the song, it is kind of catchy on rewatch.

I loved the girl in the green jacket's overall design the second I saw it...on second viewing maybe let's cover up the thong. If we can get past the fact that this isn't the SMT X FE we thought it might be from that initial teaser years ago, this looks like it could be a cool new IP. Just tone down the fan service for me, and I'm good to go; looks like it has lots of style.

Edit: I mean, the project was all but dead in most peoples eyes. Let's just go in with an open mind at least. The fan service seems pushed to the forefront too hard, but the game does have style. It deserves a chance at least.

I'm seriously impressed with the art style here. It's like a more colorful persona and it has that "looks 2d but is actually 3d" look to it.

If I had to compare it to something it's like a next gen persona 4 look. (as opposed to persona 5 which is like a next gen persona 3 look)

Have you played Compile Heart games before? Or Gust?

The combat system seems to be going FULL IDOL with this... the attacks are like 'songs' with the 'artists' being the person using the skills. The UI item looks like a karaoke music listing.

So can't say I'm surprised people are disappointed. Personally I didn't have any expectations so I was just happy to see anything. Now that I've had time to process the trailer I really think this is what happened. I think Nintendo just wanted to say "Hey guys! Atlus and IS are making a game together! They make awesome games!" but jumped the gun with the initial reveal to get people hyped, and now that has totally backfired.

If they hadn't announced it as SMT x FE at all, and announced it now under a new title, I don't think the reaction would have been nearly as bad. We'd stil be complaining about the hyper fan service and generic ass music, but the extra sting of "here's ur HD shen megamers tensai lol" wouldn't be present at least.

As for SMTxFE, we had a 5 minute after effects video with artwork from old games and a shitty logo. Not even close.

Tiki (young version from FE 1/3/11/12, not Awakening's) is in too.

This enemy is called Gangrel and has his facial hair.

I guess FE characters are basically replacing mythology references/demons/Personas here.
