Nightmare Frontier
is an appropriate name when trying to collect all the loot in the area.

Poison + Frenzy is awful. Frenzy is just straight up dumb. And all that for just a
Messenger's Gift. Does it do anything worthwhile besides just changing you into a messenger? The Great Deep Sea rune is definitely awesome, though.

Also, is there a way to kill
the spider who initially pushes you off the cliff at the end of the coin trail? I didn't even notice him until just now, but I can't target him.

So as a Souls noob, it feels strange (pleasantly so) to say that this is easily my GOTY frontrunner right now. That may very well change next month however when I go ploughing with my good pal Geralt.

This year's GOTY is going to be a toughie for me.

I got so excited when I thought I'd figured out a reliable way to dodge
Roms' ice-thing attack.
Nope! Still hits me half of the time.

As far as I can tell,
Rom's homing missiles are meant to punish the player for running away and regrouping, since his spiders stay at his side. The only reliable counter I found to his missiles is to attack him relentlessly and chase him as soon as he teleports. It'd be a pretty comfortable fight for the player if staying at range and only charging in when you felt like it was a viable strategy, since he has no means of pursuing you otherwise.

In essence people are having a tough time dodging them because they weren't meant to be reliably dodged. I'm noticing this is a common theme in a lot of boss fights - bosses punish passivity.

I was so pissed after he pushed me down the cliff lol

I'm convinced it's random. After 10 tries with random deaths I finally decided to eliminate all adds and the fight was easy (and tedious).

You'll have your chance to kill the NPC (if you want of course :P) later in the story.

Yeah, still way too early, but Bloodborne is easily GOTY so far.

After this play Dark Souls 1, masterpiece.

Trust me, it only gets better =]

After first doubts, U
nseen
V
illage
wasn't that problematic when you concentrate on the
bell witches
. The bone hounds still give me good amount of trouble. They are like a mix between the big beast wolfs and the bone dogs from the Tomb of Giants (Dark Souls). Got Boss D
arbeast
P
aari
in one try and The
One
in two tries.
Fought the three hunters 1on1 and they weren't a problem alone.
Ludwigs +7 with 30 STR helps :). For the hunters, i even found it easier spamming their faces with the shotty and then hacking away their health with the longswordmode + possible parries instead of my usual gratsword L2 stagger hits.
I think there are still a lot of areas undiscovered by me in UV so i'm going to check it out before i head into this
nightmare library world.

Feel the same so far. But I can easily see that changing as the year goes on.

Do you receive any penalties if some of your notes have a lot of foul ratings?

...

Hey, it's not my fault you actually take that step forward to an obvious fall of doom. >_>

Any recommendation for where I should go next? Maybe an optional area/boss?

I just finished the
Forbidden Woods and can now go to that uhh.. B-word place past the woods. Looks like a giant mansion or research lab.
I assume that continues the story, but I kind of want to tackle a side area/boss before doing that. Should I go to the
Unseen Village/Gaol, Cainhurst Castle (have access to now),
or somewhere else? Any recommendations? :)

About to tackle that second area, have done the first one pretty early on.

Unseen should be fairly easy. Cainhurst is optional and a challenge.

In the same vein as what you said,
I found dodge rolling towards Rom lead to me getting hit less. I guess it has something to do with the shards coming in at an angle. As long as you manage his spider count and the ice shard the fight is straightforward.

Hypogean Gaol
is probably doable for you now, yeah.

You could also try Nightmare Frontier. I did it a bit later but I felt rather over levelled for the area. To get there, talk to a window/door in Central Yharnam and you should be given a Tonsil Stone. Then follow the path to the right of the Central Cathedral into the ritual chamber. Stand near the shut door at the back and let the portal thing grab you. (You'll see what grabs you later in the story).

I wouldn't recommend Cainhurst yet though.

Just used 3 insight in a row trying to get co-op help and it disconnected me from the bb network right after ringing the bell... Such bs.

You are going to come by Unseen Village anyway.

Is the
Gaol/Unseen village
an optional location? Or do you go back there for the story? just not sure if I should go do it now or wait until later?

Well, basically, early on you can only access part of it and it is optional yes. You go back later as part of the story and through the same area, but it has different enemies, and different loot, but you can still tackle the same boss.

Hmm, I was going to head to the Castle, but maybe not if it's super hard. Although I'm not one to shy from a challenge. :P Maybe I'll check out the
Nightmare Frontier
before continuing with the story.

Oh interesting. So I could kill the bosses out of order?

Glad to see you're enjoying it bruh!

So if you do the noob ending, the final boss is like the easiest boss in the game. Wtf? I nearly beat it my first try, only lost because I got greedy trying to land the final hit. Crushed it on my second attempt. I feel a weird lack of accomplishment. In fact the last three bosses I fought were pretty dumb and easy compared to pretty much everything leading up to them. The hell?

I did the castle very early, before forest even... so it's doable. Did have help with the boss though because I was impatient... needed the reward from that fight. I found the actual area itself pretty easy, just boring.

Yep, I noticed this too. So to literally answer oatmeal's question
the easiest way to dodge them seems to be rolling towards Rom, which goes hand in hand with my advice of never leaving him the fuck alone.

Well, that specific boss is optional. You can kind of kill him whenever you like. The area is accessible from really early level really. I'd bet he'd be pretty hard though

So it was YOU! (
if you are the one who put the message in the forest
)
Kidding, I didn't fall for it, but I spent, like, five minutes turning the camera everywhere trying to see if there was a place to fall on xD

BTW, when you say it has different loot when you go back through it, does that mean the old loot goes away? Or they just add more to it?

Same here. I'm sure this will change for me when MGSV comes out though.
