Think I'll return to the main game now after finishing 3 chalice dungeons in a row. I left off after defeating the SoY and ML, so any other optional areas or quest lines I can go/fulfill before proceeding past the SoY lamp?

I think they're the hunter NPCs/maybe for PvP? But yeah I dunno. I just went for pure overall damage instead of that type of stuff.
There is nothing to summon by doing that pose only an item.

Go upstairs twice and you'll find a lamp so you can get out again.

there's a lantern there you can find, just run around until you get to it. You'll can get back there later, it's super challenging early on.
Yeah, Ludwig's Holy Blade is good, probably a little too good. Upgraded my Blade of Mercy to +10 and while it's fun and quite a bit different, Ludwig's Blade just overpowers everything with ease. Definitely the best PVE weapon I've found, haven't had any PVP encounters other than a 2v1 so can't say much about it in that regard. Was hoping I'd like the Burial Blade, but I don't like the move set at all for it.

Just get out of the cell area and climb the 3 consecutive sets of stairs, while avoiding just one of those dudes that whacked you in the first place. You'll find a lantern real quick and can get to da choppa out of there.

Same - what's worse is that I upgraded the Burial Blade to +8 before I even tried it out... Thought I'd love it. Nope. Just wasted a bunch of blood chunks.

They're pretty damn trivial once you get a weapon to stun lock them. I hear parrying is pretty simple too...
Haha, I straight up loved them real fast as the first one I killed yonder dropped a twin shard. I realized the farming potential and immediately set out to get myself some to make a few +6 weapons.
I have a terrible habit of powergaming that way.
It is a really good wtf moment.

After you kill ROM, you can go to the clinic THROUGH the Forbidden Woods, there's a poisoned lake with giants and worms that take you to the Clinic, once you're there you can fight against Iosefka and obtain the Umbilical Cord which is usefull to obtain the true ending of the game, you need three of those.
Splooge with a side of frame drops.
That's what I'm doing now too! Game is significantly easier after having done it all already, but I'm sure the latter half of the game will be just as tough as the first time.PeskyToaster

I keep getting the BSB so low and then dying. That final phase is kicking my butt
as someone who is going to be using mostly Blade of Mercy and
for pvp im wondering i should i put my secondary points into bloodtinge
or put them into arcane (to use
and get the very minor damage boost from arcane scaling)

Well, I think I finally hit a wall. A glitch wall.
My game glitched in nightmare of mensis and I can't get the lamp lit. So I'm stuck in here with 150k souls and the incredible number of 6 blood vials.
I already tried to restart the game, the console, use the item the awake your hunter. Everything I get back to the beginning of the level.
I can only see one option that is to start over.....

Man, that's rough. You should make a vid, post it to youtube and tweet at the someone.
While not ideal you could try to rush to the next lamp.
Just gun it until you open the door, inside go up the right stairs and into the middle raised form to skip the spiders, run past the hunter in the next area and you'll see weird midget things walking around you can avoid. To the right is an elevator that goes to another lantern.
Certainly not ideal though, that sucks.
There is something you can try first.
Run along the cliffside to the right. You'll pass a total of 4 enemies, one a furry thing of claws, fur and bad attitude, armed with a torch and 3 ogre-ish creatures. There is another lamp there. Maybe that one works.
