Greninja Amiibo is a Toys R Us exclusive, sold out in 30 minutes.

This is why I just stopped caring. If I can't walk into a store at my leisure and buy an Amiibo anymore, I'm not fucking with it. I'm tired of F5ing webpages and fighting for orders over these things.

Same. I have a few, and just wanted the Fire Emblem ones in the beginning, but this is ridiculous for a toy. Maybe sometime down the Line I'll get Lucina if she becomes available in a way that makes it remotely possible to buy her.

Fans might have a breaking point, to be fair.

If Disney Infinity and Skylanders have taught me anything is: no, there really isn't. Nintendo literally just slapped metallic paint on a Mario and watched America tear itself apart trying to get one. I personally think people are crazy to get caught up in a craze again like Beanie Babies, but it's their money, not mine.

While it does suck for those wanting these, this is a great move by Nintendo to stay on the retail space fight for these stores. With decreased sales of its games, this helps stores justify keeping Nintendo merchandise out in high traffic parts of the stores.

Nintendo's not really making that much money with amiibo.
The profit margins are probably high, but the revenue is pathetically low for this market.

I just LOL at this amibo hype. Could care less.

Good luck to those that are searching for their favorite characters, and fuck you to those that are buying just to resell.

I did do a double take when I saw the Yoshi yarn amibo (looks awesome) but then I remembered I dont own a WiiU nor a N3DS ...

Meh. Having a bunch of rare, retailer-exclusive Amiibo sucks but since I stopped caring about collecting every character a long time ago, I don't really care. I buy what I can find and I don't stress about it. I've been able to easily obtain every Amiibo I own so far (9 currently, with 2 more on the way).

You know, as bad as these examples are, and I agree with everything being said, I think it's worth pointing out that the overall amiibo situation really isn't that bad. The majority of amiibos that's been released are easily available. You can walk into most stores and see a pretty wide selection of amiibos, same as online.

This problem is mostly for the characters who are part of a smaller franchise or not as known as their counterparts. For example, also releasing this wave is Charizard. As much as he's sold out pre-order wise, I guarantee wiithin a month's time, he'll be everywhere. It's the less known or popular Greninja and Jigglypuff who will be next to impossible to obtain.

I'm not saying that excuses Nintendo or anything, but I think it's important to look at the whole picture. The real problem is that they just don't want to commit to printing more figures of the smaller characters, despite the fact that the demand is obviously there.

I didn't even know there was going to be another exclusive this wave, other than Ness. Communication!

The way Greninja and Jigglypuff were handled was pretty shitty. We didn't even know they were going to be part of the NA Wave 4 until yesterday's Direct, and they end up being retailer exclusives. It was shitty.

I know it's easy to point fingers at Nintendo, but... wouldn't Toys R Us be partially to blame here too?

I don't know exactly how retail works, but I thought generally store "buyers" were responsible for determining what products their stories will carry, and in what quantities, because toy-makers / publishers are all competing for limited retail shelf space. And you have toy / video game sales execs trying to convince those buyers to carry their products in their stores.

I'm assuming the reason Nintendo even has retailer-exclusive Amiibos is that they're leverage to get those retailers to continue carrying other Nintendo products, even those that aren't selling as well ("If you agree to continue stocking Wii U despite it missing sales targets, we'll get you an exclusive Amiibo that'll flood your website and stores with potential shoppers.")

Toys R Us and Nintendo probably agreed beforehand to roughly how many Amiibo would be produced for the retailer-exclusive. They probably underestimated (or knew exactly what they were doing to create frothing demand). I don't think Nintendo will "just produce more" unless Toys R Us orders them and agrees to actually carry them in their stores and on their website.

I could be completely off-base, but I don't think retail and manufacturing is as simple as "People want more, why doesn't Nintendo just make more? It must be incompetence / a conspiracy."

Well, nobody's buying a Wii U, so...

Yeah I started ignoring Amiibos once I saw it was going to play out like this. Do have a Fox one from when I picked up Smash though.

30 mins...in the middle of the damn night for 90% of americans. Come on.

It's pretty clear that most retailers know that only the most hardcore of Nintendo fans are gonna be all over the exclusive figures. These stores know Nintendo isn't gonna send them a lot so they can't try to market them to the masses. And that's kinda fucked up knowing kids who are heavily into Pokemon and might want a Greninja are SOL unless their parents are hardcore Nintendo fans.

They have an opportunity to make so much fucking money, its insane.

They must know by now the demand is there, but they continue to limit how many they are making. Its not even a shelf space issue they aren't touching the shelves.

Such bad business decisions.

yup, they can't even get to the shelves.

I think the only reason I get Amiibo at this point is to prove to Nintendo that they're not beating me at this game.

I know it puts money in their pocket, but that Amiibo was being sold anyway.

I feel like taking a picture of my rare Amiibos and tweeting it to NOA with a: "I know how hard you wanted to keep this from me, you fucks."

Id say they are doing exaclty what they should. Amiibos are quickly becoming a craze, and the limited ones are causing people to froth at the mouths.

Building demand with limited supply > oversaturation.

Just going to wait and see what's out on shelves now. Probably screwed on Ness completely but hopefully I'll see Pac-Man, Charizard, and Wario out there once it all blows over. The way this has been handled has been shit to say the least.

I will fight anyone for Falco.

I really love amiibos, both look and functionality in the games, but the fact that this is causing me real aggravation and despair means its probably time to close the book on collecting.

Pretty silly to be honest. If it was just one or two Amiibos that it happened to, it would be different, but you'd think that they would increase the production by now. Oh well, its still possible that there will be more stock coming.

This just keeps getting better.

Maybe this is the wrong thread, but how would I go about preordering the Pac Man Amiibo? I haven't been following the scene, and it's one of the few I want.

I'm sure Pac Man will be rare at first, but then become common/uncommon like Sonic and Mega Man. I'm guessing the Fire Emblem amiibo will be the toughest to get.
