I have a stockpile of madman's knowledge that I haven't used and I was wondering something. All I know about insight is that it makes enemies stronger, effects something called frenzy which I haven't encountered, and is used for co-op. I thought I read something either in game or here that it also effects your perception of the world. Without any specifics please, are there any lore or quests that I need my insight high to 'see'?

So, newbie question here, but I've just bought the game and I just got madman's knowledge and I'm in the sewers. Are there any lanterns nearby?

So I'm still in the first part (I think). Who is supposed to be the first boss?

I heard it is supposed to be the Cleric Beast yet the first boss I have been fighting, is this hunter looking guy with a sword and shotgun that morphs to a beast once I get him to 1/3 of life. I can almost beat him now. Also the doll came alive after he killed me the first time.

cleric B is optional while Father G is mandatory boss to progress further. You can level up because you have 1 insight now (you get 1 for facing a boss).
Most ppl meet cleric beast first because it's easier/faster to find.

I still haven't killed Rom and it's been 4-5 days now. I gave up fighting him and decided to help other people and do some chalice dungeons. I keep building up a pile of echoes to level up and I lose them.

I think right now I'm going to get more stone and upgrade that little lightning rod I found.
I can't beat him alone and every time I get help, the help dies and then I dies after he targets me again. I don't believe avoiding the spiders is a viable strat. I keep getting jumped by them when I get close to Rom.

Really irritating but I have other stuff I can do. I need to figure out where htat giant lightning skull boss monster was. I found him once then didn't go back so he's probably optional.

Is anyone else having trouble connecting to friends for some chalice dungeon co-op? We're both the same level, using glyphs to make sure we're in the same dungeon, definitely on the same floor of the dungeon, both using the same network password and it's just not joining us together no matter what we do. Very frustrating.

No go back to the one you came from.

Or
go to the one at the end of the sewers that unlocks the elevator.

That's because the fight itself is very cheep.

The projectiles from the sky are pretty difficult to dodge just by themselves, as they track you really good. Add the legions of mobs you also have to dodge and move around, it's a luck game when it comes down to it.

I got hit only when i was completely ignoring the projectiles. I just ran my ass off whenever they would rain down at a angle and they pretty much always missed. The
spiders
were the ones that ever killed me. I daresay
ROM
was actually kind of a relaxing boss compared to others :O

It just requires patience, get 2-3 slashes in when the
spiders
are a bit more scattered and get outta dodge.

Cleric boss is optional, but most people kill it first so it became the first boss.

No
.
Only lanterns are the main one in area, which you already unlocked, and a lantern for each of the 2 bosses in area. There are shortcuts you can unlock to make you're life easier

I explored some paths post Blood Starved Beast and I wonder which is the 'main' one:

- I bought the key in the shop and opened the main gate in the cathedral area. I guess this is the path I should be following now? The giants here hit hard
- I suddenly woke up in the 'Unseen village', after dying to the sack guy in the cathedral area. Or is there another reason I ended up here? I don't think I should be here yet, the enemies feel way too tough.
- Also past the Cathedral lamp I found a tower with a bunch of wheelchair enemies, but no path to another area. Going down below leads to a fall you can't survive, unless I'm missing something.

I should keep exploring the first path right?

Awesome, thanks man.

Completely random, but dodging diagonally forward feels like that one viable strategy that so many people dont use in the fights that it is viable for fear of dying.
yea it's a great tool, sometimes when enemies have circular wing spans to there attacks its the only way to dodge.

Finally beat the game btw--I'm pretty sure I had over 60+ hours too, dunno how people were beating it shorter. I knew I missed some things, but found out I had 2 out of 3 of the secret things to get a different ending. NP though will definitely do it on my NG+ playthrough, this is where I hear the bosses are truly at there greatest potential anyway, and ending number 1 seems rather appropriate for NG+.

Yeah you skipped CB, but he's 30 seconds from the lamp if you have the shortcut you should be using for FG.

Spoiler on the location:
the bridge with the two werewolves. Head past the big guy and 3 ravens.

When you're on the bridge with the two wolves then a troll just keep going forward to get to CB.

Having trouble with D
aught of the Cosmos
. I always get killed by the stupid
arcane
attacks. It's like
Rom
all over again.

That's Father Gasgoigne. You missed the non essential Cleric Beast on the bridge

Ignore the Central Yharnam suggestions. The fastest way by far is to farm souls (The Forbidden Woods is great for this) and then buy Blood Vials in the Hunter's Dream.
Go to Witch's abode. Run up stairs, kill the 3 witches, and the first executioner will come running. Parry and visceral attack. Run down the ramp and pick up the first of the two executioners down there. Kill him and then the last one. You should get 4-6 vials from the executions and over 10,000 echoes. Head back to hunter's dream and buy a bunch of vials.

I have done runs in about 3 minutes. Quickest way by far I have found, boosted by the fact that executioners drop a set. If you not great at visceral's though, do not attempt.

Thanks.

I see a
giant rat / creature
in the area ahead. I'm kind of scared...

You can get to the bottom, but it requires falling on the various scaffoldings one at a time. You can use Shiny Coins to judge the distance of a drop; if they make a sound when they hit the bottom, it's not lethal.

But yeah, the first path is the main path and your best bet. The giants aren't that bad; they're very slow and there is a way around them.

Thanks.

You are WAY too low for that area for any chance of co-op.. I was like 68 when I faced that boss. lol. Are you doing a low-level run or just there early?
Ha! Ok! I get it! The enemies weren't too bad so I figured I might give it a go. Some nice collectibles here. I'll scavenge elsewhere for now.

I think I'm near end game, some questions:
1- Is
Nightmare Frontier
the last area/area with the final boss?
2- Do you advance to NG+ automatically or do you get to chose when to do it like in DS2?

It took getting to BSB for me to really realize that. It changed how I played the game.

Yes, i try that to tell people who need help with BSB or VA that this is a good way. Problem is that you instinct always let's you dodge back or sideways when under pressure from enemy attacks.
Some bosses and normal enemies have horizontal attacks, who hit you when you dodge sideways but with a forward jump (with lock on) you get behind them almost every time.

That is also the best strategy http://www.neogaf.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=158713168against the mosquito-spiders in the cainhurst yard.

What's the deal with that hunter with an electric weapon that's in that area to the right of the boss door for
vicar
? I haven't done that boss yet and was just exploring around and ran into that hunter. I booked it as soon as I realized what it was. Drop anything good?

Not making great progress but I finally made it past the Y
aharrgul
Village and beat R
eborn
. Large bosses get unwieldy and not very fun to fight at a certain size, and this was one of them. Not to say it was all that hard though.

I honestly think thats why I found the game so easy to play compared to everyone. Once you consistently can do that, youre applying constantly pressure on the bosses that you simply could not do in the previous games. Theres a few exceptions like the SoY who running backwards and taking one on then looping around again was the smart move, but besides those exceptions, it really is the best strategy for a lot of situations. The fact I could consistently charge R2 or do a jump attack on bosses with Ludwigs sword (which stuns for a second charge usually) is notable when most cant land hits on bosses

Beat FG and CB with Hunters Axe then switched Kirkhammer. Didn't like the hammer as much as the greataxe, but it was a worthy trade off for the Kirkhammer's 1h sword, which I found vastly superior to the short axe.

Yeah I'll play with it a while and see if I dig it. I feel like I might miss the double handed R2 charged attack from the axe.

Just a hunter. You get QS bullets from him/her.

Weird, Micolash
ran straight to the "kill rooms" this time around making it a very short fight. On my first playthrough he kept running away for a long time and warping whenever I hit him making it pretty frustrating. Have they patched the fight or could this be insight related?

The sewers are a stones throw from shortcuts you can open up, so it's not about finding lanterns (or bonfires like in DS1) as it is about finding shortcuts to get back to the lanterns quickly.

They always do.

And which attack of Ludwig's holy blade does blunt damage?
