Hey GAF, lets start (re)watching this fuckawesome, amazing, incredible show from season one. You can do it at your own pace. Talk about it freely in this thread.

Don't own the seasons already? BUY THEM. They're only $20 each ffs! (s3 comes out THIS Tuesday, EDIT: Amazon has a bundle of the first two seasons for $27)

Oh and also, ALL SPOILERS MUST BE TAGGED in case there are new watchers here.

Who's in? :D

I don't know if they'll be a Bluray.

And I was already highly lukewarm on Greys. Then ghosts started popping up and I said fuck it.

Edit: And come on, we need new FNL people on GAF.

yea...the ghost storyline was weird, but at least it amounts to something. its definitely not a good show, just one of my guilty pleasures. they really love pulling at the heart strings though.

back to FNL, we definitely need more love for it around here. FNL and Supernatural deserve a GAF attention thread more than LOST since so few people watch it.

edit: make up a schedule costanza and lets start this bitch

gdt and I wanted to rush through it, so I figured we'd just let people go at their own pace and use this thread as general discussion.

We talked about it in the TV Shows thread. No schedule. At your own pace.

The schedule thing is perfect for LOST. FNL doesn't really need that (IMO).

Well, I'm heading off to sleep soon, but I'll start S1 in the morning.

I'll probably be crying by episode 2 T_T.

hmmm in that case iuno if spoiler tags are really necessary? just seem like a pain =P

desperado: the series has EVERYTHING the movie has and so much more, the big one being character development. it really is an extension of the movie considering the director of the movie started the series.

As a huge fan of the movie, would I like this show?

Hmm... give me... a ....second.

A huge resounding YES!

I've only seen the movie once, but FNL is a serious contender for the best show on TV. It's my number 2 (though its sooooooo close its a non-issue).

I don't really remember if they're all that similar to be honest (the movie and the show), but I can't imagine anyone not liking this show.

Unless they have no heart that is.

the movie is like...season 1 condensed into 2 hours. new coach, struggles with team, problems between teammates, loses some games, town gets angry, etc etc.

oh and ill be crying by the end of episode 1. gets me every time.

love the opening song to the show............still one of my favorite openings ever

indeed, the music is perfect for it. i think i prefer the season 2 and beyond opening more though, mostly because of the awesome scene with smash it shows.

so....gdt u dont think a bluray will ever come out? =/ maybe ill think about the dvds

I don't really think NBC/Universal (would DTV have something to do with the DVDs now?) would put out the sets.

At least not until it's all over. Financially, the show probably doesn't make that cut.

Edit: Though, of course, I'd love to be wrong.

I have 3 more episodes to go in the 1st season and then it's on to the 2nd season which it seems like a few people aren't too fond of.

The S2 wars are well documented in the TV Shows thread.

Basically, at the beginning, you'll want to rip your hair out. But the season get decidedly better the more episodes you see. And then S3...

Perfection.

Yeah the problem with S2 was the Writer's Strike I believe, but even then I still really enjoyed it.

What I didn't enjoy was
Matt being dumped in favour of the spanish kid, or whatever he was called
and the fact that
Lance and Tyra randomly broke up at the start of the new season
.

I'd love to re-watch FNL again but sadly I'm busy with Lost. I hope they hurry up with season four.

not sure what the writers strike really has to do with the core problem of season 2 part 1
the murder
, and the second part of ur spoiler makes sense if you think about her character.

edit: was gonna play L4D, but i shall watch with u constanza.

god dammit only 5 minutes in and i can just feel the tears coming

you know what, can we have a vote on the spoilers in this thread lol. i think for a non-spoiler thread there should be a LTTP thread like kyoufu did with lost, theres too many things i want to talk about...for now though

theres one thing i hate about this show, and thats that they took Street out too soon. i mean fuck, i want to see him play! all this talk about how great he is, and seeing how he is maybe the most well mannered character ive ever seen, i was really looking forward to great things happening with him. but i guess thats the point of his injury.

his dynamic with the coach is possibly one of the best in the show. hes one of the only people that you can actually see the coach truly respects and cares about, and i really wish we were able to have more of that on the field. in just the pilot alone we hear street talking about the type of defense the other team has and hes giving all these tips. theyve never shown saracen do this once. i want street dammit!

You cant blame crappy, over the top plotlines like
Tyra/Landry murder, shark blood, or Matt banging the nanny
on a reduced season.

Finished watching S3 a few days back, so I'm done for now. Wouldn't mind rewatching the whole series before the next season starts though. Couple of questions: 1) When can we expect S4 to take off? Late 2009 or more like 2010? 2) What about a blu-ray release? Is it coming? The show was shot in HD, right?

I think the shark blood thing was totally in character with Street's need to find a way to escape his circumstances. He already lost his chance to be on the wheelchair team (in a way, to go back to his old life, psychologically), he was no longer with lyla (so his connection emotionally was gone). The last thing he had left to try was to physically get his life back and since we all know how impossible that really is, the show presented it as such. But Jason, desperate for that feeling of fitting in, of being a leader, was at his breaking point, willing to do anything. I know when you say SHARK BLOOD, it sounds silly, but to Jason, he was willing to do anything at that point to get his life back, regardless of how unreal his odds were.

The nanny thing was an example of Matt choosing someone who cared about him and knew who he was over someone who knew Matt Saracen the hero football player. Was it a bit underdeveloped? Yea. Did I really think his other girlfriend was all that bad? not at all, the car thing was a real nice intro to here. Also, without it, we don't have the incredible EVERYBODY LEAVES ME scene.

Just about to start, I love love love that you can skip all the crap on this set and get straight to the menu.

Oh, when I first started the show I assumed each episode would be like the Pilot where it's like a countdown to Friday, glad that didn't stick around.

did the overuse of shaky cam in the first few episodes bother you, gdt?

It was definitely shocking. Made it a little...not dizzy, but a little hard to follow.

But now I think FNL's technique makes it seem so real. More shows should go for a similar direction. Makes it really gritty.

Just finished watching the first episode, i'm not a fan of football (not at all, in fact), but i really enjoyed this first ep, i really like all the characters (except for the long hair guy, Tim, i think?) and the soundtrack seems to be really good too. Gonna continue watching it tomorrow, can't wait

I don't follow sports at all, and I barely know even football rules.

Tim's not my favorite either, but he gets better gradually all the way to S3.

Edit: And the Pilot is great, but the show gets better the more you get invested in the characters.

Oh, is that black kid the same one that shows up later when Smash and Coach play football with those kids?

Edit: The one who in the Pilot is asking Street about going pro.

I tried watching the movie the other week and Billy-Bob just seemed like a gigantic pussy from the first few scenes, so I just turned it off.
