Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

I feel like I never got to the point where I actually got the cannon to be OP. I got it up to +5 but by the time I had that and my 30 Strength I was already near the end of the game and wasn't seeing the massive damage to bosses everyone keeps talking about.

I'm gonna try that right now, thanks

I'm going to interject with an alternate method if that one doesn't work for you:
Ignore the spiders. Smash Rom a couple hits at a time and roll away. Repeat. When his moveset changes just roll far enough that he doesn't engage the meteorites but only uses his close-range attacks. Just remember to never get greedy because some spider bastard might plunge at you OHKOing you, so just take two-three hits on Rom at a time!

it takes a chunk off but honestly I was let down by the damage in the end... I could see how it might be a gamebreaker in pvp though

I definitely would argue this is the best method...
Rom
was a joke using it

Do we know where the best gems drop? I read something about cursed, fetid, and rotten depth 5 dungeons dropping cursed blood gems. Any truth to that? I really don't want to waste my materials if that's wrong.

I don't find the Cannon that OP. it only takes off half dmg for regular enemies in the lower part of the Chalice dungeons. probably OP for regular game and PVP, but it's been underwhelming for me and I have it at +6 currently.

These Chalice dungeons sure can be weird at times. I created a Hinterlands root chalice dungeon with the optional offerings. Started out nicely, with a chunk in a chest in a side area, even before the 1st main dungeon area. 2nd side area had an uncanny hunter's axe, which is a fun novelty, though useless to me.

And the I found an illusionary wall that takes me to one of those fancy treasure chambers... which is 100% free of loot of any and all kind. Like wtf. Secret area with absolutely nothing in it. Beside all the decorative bling bling, that is.

. Had a good co op parter and got him on my 4th try. After hearing the horror stories I'm glad it went pretty smooth. Rom is still the only boss to give me trouble.

Btw I tried restarting the ps4 to find people more quickly and it worked. I got a partner immediately after rebooting. So that's a tip if you want to co-op and you're not finding anyone.

in normal gameplay = Easy enough if you avoid the adds and do run & hit tactics.

in Chalice Dungeon = OH GOD? WHAT HORROR IN HELL IS THIS?!!?!

Whats the best way defeating
the DarkPearl Beast, havent been able to get a hit on him.

I may have been somewhat over leveled when I fought him, because I was literally taking away chunks of his health when I fought him. I defeated him in less than a minute.

My tactic was to get all up in his grill, and hit him with the two handed form of Ludwig's Holy Blade. I'd dodge and roll to try and keep to his back left, popping heals as needed. He went down stupidly fast, and barely hit me.

My general advice is to not get too intimidated by the size of the enemies. They all seem to be weak when you are in super close range. Just always try to be maneuvering yourself behind them. Just about everybody I've encountered has been weak to Attacks from the side and back.

Focus on attacking from the back/sides, and avoiding getting hit by dodging. Sometimes, dodging once may not be enough, so I dodge twice, to take advantage of invincibly frames. Also, for many enemies, dodging INTO the attack is the best way to avoid it. Often, dodging back, or to the left and right will still get you hit.

For that Boss, I'd dodge into his front right (your left), and get some whacks in while he was turning to reorient himself.

You can get 4 shots with blood bullets, enough to kill a lot of bosses using Bone Marrow Ash. It isn't too much, the cannon is actually OP.

And up to 6 shots with +Bullet Runes equipped. There's 5 Tiers of +Bullets which go 1/2/3/4/5. So you could equip the +5 in one slot and enough for another +5 with the two other slots to get 30+ base.

Alternatively, +5 in one slot and +3 and +2 bullets gained on V.Atks in the other two slots to give you 5 bullets back every time you did a V.Atk on a boss for potentially "infinite" Cannon shots.

People saying this is one the best games ever are blind or what? I mean I'm mostly done with the game doing Chalice dungeons and having the final fight to do but come on, Bloodborne is a 7 or 8 top. I know it's the OT and fans won't agree but from a technical point of view this game is a big mess.

- One of the worst cameras ever
- Intense stuttering means choppy combat
- Audio and texture glitches
- Bad clipping (though most games suffer of it)
- Poor loading times, especially if you want to change zones

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. When you delve into actual design decisions and encounter design it gets really ugly.

- Random elites screw the game's balance
- Most bosses are either too easy or too hard; most of them require the same strategies (forward roll or side dash) or to "stunlock" them like Reborn.
- Like I've said before, the items SUCK. There's little variety in the builds meaning exploration is a bit boring. Even in Chalice dungeons all I get are fucking Ritual Bloods and other materials.
- Being swarmed isn't really fun, meaning you oftentimes need to "pull" monsters from groups as to not get rekt. If I wanted to play a MMO I'd play one.
- Monsters deal way, way too much damage overall. It gets stupid sometimes, but the worst is when they combo you to death since you are stunlocked or whatever.
- Environment variety is poor. Churches, woods and...churches.

The truth is Bloodborne is too frustrating for a lot of people including me, but I still tried to be critical. I even felt the Hub wasn't as clever as the one on Demon's Souls, and the Doll is just not memorable at all. I have the feeling lots of PS4 owners are glorifying the game because it's an exclusive. It also seems the press didn't want to see the numerous faults this game have.

Just got invaded for the first and second time in
Nightmare of Mensis
.
First time was awesome it was right at the beginning, managed to do decent damage then blasted him off the edge with the cannon lol

Second time I was reading GAF so didn't realise I'd been invaded but managed to dodge his first attack from behind but when facing him got attacked by a big guy from behind and ended up getting penned in a got massacred.

This level is just every evil idea of the "Souls" franchise mashed into one, I both love it and hate it. The shortcuts are fantastic though, got two already. The level design is just top class.

This can't be reiterated enough. The effect it has on successfully connecting with people is fairly drastic.

If you talked to iofska then you have a little envelope in your inventory. It is an invitation. Go to the place where you fought the witches and right where the executioners are walking around there is a big pillar. Equip envelope and use as item. Carriage comes and gives you a ride.

Fuck this game is so hard and satisfying. Just got to the hairy boss at the bridge. What is his name?

Cleric Beast. The fun has only just begun, my friend. Lawd, has it only just begun for you.....muwahahaha

Did you get there before Rom? If so, that's why. You need the red moon so the Hypogean Gaol lamp is broken and you have to go to Yahar'gul through the main gate.

Welp I think i understand what happened now. I used the "shortcut/glitch" in the beginning of the game to get to the forbidden woods. Because of the that I defeated Rom before fighting amelia. So when i returned to fight Amelia the moon dissapeared. So there is NO WAY for me to advance anymore and i have to start all over again... So yeah, be carefull not to fight amelia after u defeated Rom.

So any consensus on what level should most builds be capped at?

I was thinking about going up to 99, currently in Forbidden Woods NG+.

I went to 240 - 50/40/50/50/50/50, because I don't give a shit about any "PVP Meta" and wanted to be able to test every possible weapon and blood gem's effectiveness.

The community is still debating on lvl 100 vs lvl 120, so I'll just get mine to 110 since I have no horse in this race, that way I can play against both.

Same here. I'm leveling Arcane and Bloodtinge now to explore every gameplay possibility. Hunter's tools are fun as well.

Completely off topic but I want to know. - Can I change my Neogaf username and when will I become member?

I think you just have to kill The One Reborn before you kill Amelia. All Bosses Speedruns use that skip and sitll manage to kill everything and finish the game.

Holy crap! How many echos does it take to level up for you now? Close to a million? lol

Thanks for your opinion.

It's generally better to present your opinion without claiming other people's opinions are wrong or irrationally biased, though.

holy shit

Not like it's hard to do. You get a fuckton of Echos from doing NG+ and high level Chalice stuff. I didn't really do any grinding except the last 12 levels since I got impatient and that hardly took any time at all since a Pig Run with +30% Echos Moon, and +40% and +60% Echoes on V Atk kills Heir runes gets you about 485k per go.

And I've now burned many dozens of levels worth of echoes from Chalice Dungeons just maxing out my item stocks or not caring to recollect echoes if I die in an annoying place in there.

Literally all of your complaints are technical and/or due to your own lack of skill or ability to adapt.

Also - the complaint about the lack of environments.... I take it you haven't made it past the 7th boss then? Because everything goes batshit crazy, including the environments.

I definitely consider this one of the best games ever made. It's easily in my top 5/top 3 games ever.

For the record I beat it, got the true ending, and am on the 2nd boss in NG+.

Like, 480k-ish to go from 240-241? I'm not bothering to level past that because levels past 50 in a stat barely do anything and Stamina hard caps at 40 endurance. 480k is also pretty much nothing at this point.

Just killed Rom.

This game is amazing. If it keeps this up, it'll surpass Dark Souls as my GOAT.

I'm out before I read spoilers!

What I bolded is pretty much what Souls players love about the games. I also feel that the environment is top notch and extremely memorable. I just love the ambience. As for the performance stuff, yes, it is a little choppy and the camera can suck but that is just a Souls game for you. Even a perfect lover has an irritating habit.

The game just might not be for you and that is OK. There are lots of games that people clamor on about that I just shake my head at but, you know, opinions and all that.

Yeah. I got a partner in seconds, that never happened before.

The real key is do not come out of rest mode. If you do use rest mode, then do a full reboot before you even launch the game. Once I started doing this I never had an issue summoning or being summoned. Having a very unique password helps, too. Don't use words like "blood" or "death" rather, "ae3kz9". To add even more, I stay out of the menus once I have summoned and if it is someone you know then have the person who is BEING SUMMONED ring the bell FIRST.

Question before I potentially screw up the Plat -

Currently on NG+ and got a few trophies left - chalice dungeon ones,
2 of the endings,
and weapon master.

If I complete the game now with the intention of just finishing the chalice dungeons at the start of NG++, am I gonna be screwing myself over? As in - are there any items that I will need to loot late game to be able to progress through them? Or can I progress purely from doing the dungeons themselves?

For shits and giggles I added all my +Poison gems to my Kirkhammer and could never notice it actually applying to the enemy. Think I had a +1.8, +0.8, +1.2 added

Is there something special you have to do to make poison apply to the enemy or is the damage so small i just couldnt tell.

Yeah I was mainly talking about multiplayer. I like focused builds there. Dark Souls 2 was full of Hex casting heavy armor wearing motherfuckers and it didn't feel right.

If you're only making one character you obviously could level up to try everything out.

The community is still debating on lvl 100 vs lvl 120, so I'll just get mine to 110 since I have no horse in this race, that way I can play against both.

120 seems kinda high for this game. There are less stats than in Dark Souls.

I'm at 30/35 split with STR and SKL currently and managed to raise my Arcane to 15 for trying out those cool hunter tools.

I'd actually go out of my way to address any of your points. But whats the point really?

I'm a blind sheep led by the glorious Kaz Hirai to the promised PS4 land.

Howdy guys, I am not reading the OT because still going through the game, but look for response.

Quick question: My NAT is Type 2, and I seem not be able to find anyone to help with bosses. One of my favorite things to do is help out with bosses during "Souls downtime". Also, I experimented with PVP and can't find any opponents either. Is there some kind of hidden restriction for the first NG? Is NAT very important in BB?

I have it set to worldwide.
