Well you can pump into both up until a certain which is the soft cap and at that point you should pump into whichever one you feel lIke doing. For example I'm gonna pump into strength over skill now since my secondary weapon is the wheel and that eventually scales S with strength
This is exactly what I'm doing. 50 strength, 25 skill. Currently using a +10 Ludwigs Holy Blade, going to level the Wheel up to +10 next.

Speaking of shields, is the wooden shield actually useful at any point?

I've never used it.

Absolutely. It can't block melee for shit but it all but neutralizes most gunfire - it's a godsend against trigger-happy enemy hunters, especially that asshole to the right of the Grand Cathedral.

How much vitality are people at going into the defiled chalice? It's completely kicking my ass since I'm back to down to the amount of hp I started the game at.

Is the Blade of Mercy worth it over the Rifle Spear?

If you like the weapon's moveset, yes. Every single weapon in the game is good, useful, and viable. It's just completely up to whether you like how its attacks work or not and if it fits your playstyle and you're comfortable with it.

There's no "wrong" choices for weapons in Bloodborne. If you like a weapon then use it. There isn't a single weapon that you can't beat the game with.

Seems like it would work best when you first encounter him and have some time to deal damage before he calls his buddies.

It works any time. I've killed him every single time this way and I'm never going to play it safe and kill spiders. That would make the boss significantly longer than I'm used to. I'm glad there's multiple ways to kill him, though. Whatever works!

I'm now convinced G
erhman
's jumping attack (the one where he jumps and slashes the air) is unavoidable. Such bullshit.

still having trouble with him eh? :p

just keep a safe distance from him until he makes a move, then rush in and attack and rush back out, hit n run just like with R

Totally. The damage might be different on some weapons because of Blunt or Thrust damage and enemy defense against it, but if the moveset works well for you, then you can still finish fights quickly with a weapon you favor.

I love the Chalice Dungeons; I've cleared the Depth 3 ones so far. They remind me of playing Wizardry way back in the day on my Mac Plus; just pure dungeon crawling, with the added bonus here of great combat.

They are clearly not as good as the rest of the game, but as far as extra optional content goes, it's really solid so far. I love the extra enemies (the black metal singer screaming war-pick-axe ones especially) and some of the boss fights have been very memorable, and I am enjoying mentally mapping out each section and being very thorough as I clear things out so that I never miss a room.

It scratches a particular itch and I can imagine myself sinking another 50 hours into them, easy, over time. It does feel like the sort of thing where the execution in Bloodborne 2 or Chalice DLC might hit it out of the park, whereas this is a bit experimental.

I suspect that people rushing through them with their primary goal being getting the Platinum trophy are going to largely hate them. And they aren't going to appeal to every Souls fan, but they make me happy.

I went in with 50. I can't imagine doing it with much less. That cuts your 1500 hp down to 750 and it's a total pain. It is more tolerable with +HP Runes though. If you have all 3 HP runes - +5%, +10% and +15% your HP gets boosted up to 1992, which gets halved to 996.

246 more HP doesn't sound like a lot, but in the Defiled Chalice it really is and can save your ass and prevent getting killed in 1-2 attacks.

Really wish people stop saying "one-shot", as it literally makes it sound like you killed a boss with 1 weapon hit.. Esp confusing since some bosses you can kill in 2 weapon hits (Cannon is OP apparently lol)

Yeah, saying "one shot" in replace of "first try" is stupid. In any game, one shot has always meant killing in one hit, or in some cases, an enemy being one shot away from death (ex: Halo or COD)

I've killed all the optional bosses. Already got the Crow Set and completed Eileen quest. Already got the cannon. Got the Old Hunter Bone. Got 2 thirds of the Umbilical Cord.

Thing is... what is there for me to do now?
Just to get the 3rd piece of Umbilical cord killing W

Is there any special set I should get? Any special weapon and stuff?

Man E
brietas or whatever her name is, is gonna be really tough.
My weapon does no damage unless you smack it in the face, but it can barely even reach that. Guess I'll put it off till later.

By far the most tedious with this game is the constant farming for blood vials..

The worst part is that you can only accumulate 99, and the you-hit-the-limit prompt is so obnoxious.

At least I had that problem with bullets. At the start, I just dodged and didn't use bullets. Then I got too many bullets.

Started using bullets, and eventually I ran out and had to farm them.

In the last leg of the game I swinged wildly between too many and too few bulltets.

That's the thing, I don't know the moveset, so I'd like to know impressions before investing the blood echoes, as I'm early in the game with my Skill character, and I'm deciding whether or not I should invest to buy the balde (possibly my character's main weapon) or simply lvl up.

Thanks :)

What weapon are you using? Mine was doing a good bit against her from all sides.

Just curious, how many people have gotten the Platinum trophy and what were your final stats, weapon usage, platinum length etc? No Spoilers for those who haven't finished the game.

I was around level ~136.
Highest stats were health (50) and strength (40).
I had a +10 Axe and +10
Chikage
My total run time was ~56 hours (my NG++ run was around 6 or 7 hours long).
The last trophy I got was for killing
Yharnam, Phtumerian Queen

Interested to read anyone's replies!

Any tips for (very late game)
gehrman, second phase, he wrecks my shit and I have to go farm vials over and over. Fucking scythe man..

Yeah I think I'm gonna have to look at using those hp runes since I'm just getting torn apart by that first boss. This is a really annoying part of the game which just feels difficult for the sake of it. This boss wouldn't have stood a chance had the game not just artificially crippled me.

(cross-posted from noob thread)

After countless attemps (but not nearly as many as against Father Gascoigne), I finally defeated BSB. I swore I would stop playing the game because I don't have that much gaming time these days and BB is a huge time investment (sometimes, with little reward / sense of progression, which is not the ideal end to a busy day), and I still might. It's a wonderful game. Nevertheless, there are a couple of issues I have with it (I am a souls/borne beginner, and not that far in the game after all, but played ~17 hours). Most of them are probably due to the fact that I am *bad* at this game. But still.

I really wish there was no grinding at all. By this I don't mean level up/ get better weapons. But I should never have to farm for blood vials / bullets (and in BSB case, antidote). Especially bullets, since at least you start iwth a full health bar. An entire game mechanism is gone when you have no bullets. Sure, sure, I should 'git gud', but I think even for a good player, going to BSB with 0 bullets / vials /antidotes would be quite a challenge. I ended up doing this so many times (somewhat pointlessly) because I really didn't like the idea of going back and farming for those. I don't mind even mind the 45 seconds punishment for dying. But farming feels wrong - a skinner box. Ironically, I got pretty good at fighting BSB without any resources, so I ended up using only 1 vial / antidote to kill it.

Which brings me to my second point - parrying seems too hard, or at least - not worth it. I am pretty decent at it. I almost always kill big monsters (so far, trolls, creepy dudes with the mask) with it.
I insisted on beating Gascoigne with what I felt like was 'the right way' - i.e. by parries/visceral. I got good at it too - I killed him solely with visceral, and as a result also had little trouble with the first two hunters you meet. But in general, or perhaps it was especially on BSB, it seems the risk is not worth it. I almost managed to kill BSB with viscerals as well, and got good at predicting its attacks. But once I decided to dodge into it and attack from behind, the fight actually got *significantly* easier. With parries, you have a very small window to succeed. If you do succeed, you get decent damage, but not that much more than 3-4 slashes (I use the cane). If you fuck up, you get _fucked_. Especially on bosses / things like stage 3 Gascoigne/ BSB (for BSB, fucking up a parry in third stage meant death to me- I got my health essentially to 0 and fully poisoned). By contrast, the window for dodging is usually much, much longer. And fucking up might just mean you don't get an attack. Or get hit once on the way. And you don't even waste a bullet, barely any stamina.

Anyway, it's still a wonderful game. But I am somewhat hoping I'll have the willpower to stop playing it and not go see Vicar Amelia (I have already opened the paths towards her).

I probably won't.

My threaded cane is now +10, with a 448 attack rating at 50 skill after blood game fortifications (+15% attack, +18% physical, +18% physical). *crying tears of happiness*

Not much use out of the untransformed, single-blade iteration unless you want to use your gun. It's a short sword not unlike the untransformed threaded cane.

The transformed, double-blade iteration has an extremely rapid R1 that picks up in speed the longer your combo lasts and really benefits from high stamina. The R2 doesn't really do anything that other weapons don't do better. The rolling R1 is amazingly quick.

Well, then the best thing to do is to just equip the Blade of Mercy and go play with it. Go to a lower level area or something and just start whacking away and testing out how it plays. Blood Echoes are pretty easy to come by and imo you should freely spend them on weapons just to find one you like. It's more important to find out which weapons you like the feel than it is to get more levels, since you get more and more echoes the deeper you get into the game.

At BSB. I summon the NPC, and another player appeared with him. Can't lose right? They both fucking died in seconds and then he came at me like crazy and I died. Wtf! Am I under leveled or something?

Vitality 21
End 17
Strength 12
Skill 11

My saw spear is +3 but I can't upgrade it more without twin shards, which I haven't found. What should I be upgrading or doing?

My friend is visiting and added his Plus account to my PS4. Is it possible for him to play his Bloodborne save data without it overwriting my save data? Every time he tries to download it it wants to overwrite mine.

I really like the rapid attacks bit! I'll check it out.

Thanks :)

Uhh, I just entered Cathedral Ward and found a note talking about

As someone with
arachno
phobic tendencies I feel like this is the point of the game where I need a complete list of all the places in this game where you encounter those vile creatures. Is there such a thing, which doesn't spoil the rest of the game?

How do I do Alfred's quest?
I'm near W

You ain't completing the game otherwise.

I would probably have put a little more in Str than Endurance but that might just be my preference. If you want to know an item that really helps, check the spoiler:

blood cocktails

Not possible.

Save your data on a usb stick.

There's a building at the top of the
Nightmare of Mensis
that has them and I don't think you can really avoid going through. Fortunately once you open a shortcut there you don't have to pass through there again.
