Eh, I could see how doing the Chalice dungeons last would leave a bad taste in your mouth. I thought they were pretty bad, too. Other than that the game itself was fantastic.

No one? =[

My moon isn't
red
, either..

Can you even go to Nightmare Frontier before Rom? Anyway, I did it afterwards. To my knowledge, you can go to the Hypogean Gaol/Unseen Village area anytime after you beat Rom. At least that opened a gate for me in the Cathedral Ward. Not sure what you mean with the Byrgenwerth library though, looks like I missed that?

Your moon turns red after Rom.

Also... I have been rocking the Axe so far. How is the Great Sword compared to it? I haven't invest chunks in upgrading yet, so now would be the time to switch.

You mean Ludwig's Holy Blade?

The Axe has better range and reach for regular mobs in 2H mode. The Axe's R2-Charge is also much better for cheese and groups of enemies.

The Blade's 1H mode is a very fast Longsword, similar to the Threaded Cane's Cane-mode. It's easier to use than the Axe's 1H mode. The Blade's 2H mode hits harder than the Axe and Staggers better, but doesn't have anywhere near the range. However, its over-head slash L2 Attack works absurdly well on many of the games bosses and easily lets stuns them, letting you do devastating Visceral Attacks.

Basically, in my opinion, the Hunter Axe is better for groups of regular enemies and cheesing certain types of them and Ludwig's Holy Blade is a boss killer and slightly better on regular enemies if you need to do a bunch of fast hits with its 1H mode.

Since you can equip two weapons at once they actually make a really great combination when paired together that is fantastic for just about every situation.

Ok so I just two shot Ebrietas, who people were saying was super hard. First playthrough, though Im a bit high level (80) maybe that was why.

Heres the video incase anyone wants to tell me if she looked bugged or something.

And another optional down!: https://youtu.be/rCvH46ziZe0
Can't watch the video, but I skipped her laser-phase too.
Did some damage, got her down, performed a visceral, charged up a R2 and she was dead.
No blood spitting, no lasers.
Was surprised too.

Care to explain more? Like what NPCs and where are they would I miss out on?

There is kind of a
time progression that occurs
that basically cuts off the time window you have to interact and complete
certain NPC storylines.

I think I'm done trying to get Eileen's
Tomb of Oedon
event to trigger. I've tried warping directly there, I've tried walking in from both directions, I've tried lowering my insight and I'm getting nothing. I've been googling it for the last hour and there's just too many reports of this questline being incredibly tempermental, even buggy, about triggers.

I have like 18000 souls and am about to fight a boss. in cathedral ward. think it's worth using a bold hunters mark and leveling up/fortifying weapons before facing him just in case?

yes.
Vicar Amelia
is going to kill you the 1st time. : )

When you do fight her, huge left hip and stay there. Never run away (she goes nuts on you) or stand in front.

That encounter will only tigger if you can't warp to that lamp. Then, you run back to there.

Wow, I totally didn't know there was an L2 attack for the Blade. I probably would have slaughtered bosses easier. -_-

I use it 2H mode most of the time and nothing but R1 and R2

Regarding the first sentence:
Yeah, if you get there if you get the Tonsil Stone and go to the place where you're being transported after defeating Rom (you can go there without beating Rom first, then you get to Nightmare Frontier.

Definitely! There's not much point to hoarding echoes. Dumping them into upgrades before a big encounter is always a good idea.

not to mention Ludwig's quickly begins to put the Axe to shame at higher levels. Once you cap STR there is no one to go for Axe, Ludwig's scales just as well for Skill. Essesstially you get 100 skill point to Ludwigs before hard cap and only 50 for axe.

Like I said you will not run into this issue until around level 100 (when you should be close to hard capping your primary damage skill)

Really getting tired of
Watchdog of the Old Lords
one-shotting me with literally everything in the Defiled dungeon.

Yep, L2 in 2H mode is a big overhead slam/smash that has a LOT of vertical range and heavy stagger power on it. It easily nails a lot of bosses in the head and sends them to Visceral Attack-ville. It's especially effective against bosses like
Ebiretas and Amygdala
and really any big boss that's weak to head shots.

Yep! I can't remember how I got there, though, but I realized I got there too soon the moment I faced the first enemy.
When you beat the
Shadows, if you go through the gate, you get to a library with a hunter. There is a door there, you need the Lunarium key to open it, with a weird king-like man that points a scepter to the moon. Nothing else in that area, apparently. There's a message in the library talking about a ritual, so I thought I had to go through a ritual there to keep going, but I don't know how to do it.

I thought that area led to Rom, but there's nothing besides that library/academy/university/lunarium/whatever.

Thank you, though. I guess I'll keep searching how to reach Rom.

Can I beat Martyr Logarius at level 57 or should I come back later? I got wrecked by him on the first attempt.

I can't beat this fucker and I'm at level 67 or something. Maybe it's because I've got 30 points sunk into bloodtinge, but this fucker is hard as fuck. I came sorta close once, but overall I'm just choking.

1. Set up Runes for Blood/Item Farming.
2. Give up on both when it takes forever for chunks to drop.
3. Use Echoes to purchas odds and ends and finally open a new Chalice Dungeon.
4. Exit the second level with 400k echoes and the item you wanted.

Chalice Dungeons have so much blood. I was a little concerned with this Dungeon because it was Depth 5, but it's been easy as hell compared to the Depth 4 defiled. The first boss I nearly killed with one visceral strike.

Still need one more Red Jelly.

you can get 2 red jelly from the 1st floor of the lecture hall in a chest. You can access this as soon as you beat FG.

So i headed right near the Grand Cathedral and ran into
two hunter. I killed them. Are they part of any quests? Did i mess that up? Still havent gone to the woods

Well you were like 10 feet away from facing Rom! Maybe you want to take another look, or ask me again, then I will tell you :)

And no, you don't need to do a ritual.

Hit for hit Ludwig's 2H mode will hit harder than the Hunter Axe, sure. But, I wouldn't say that it puts it to "shame," especially considering the moveset difference. Personally, I feel that even though it doesn't hit quite as hard, the Hunter Axe's moveset is better for a lot of mobs, especially in Chalice dungeons. Though I definitely prefer Ludwig's for bosses.

Also, pure hit for hit damage, nothing beats Chikage. Though the 2H mode HP drain is annoying and I'm not a big fan of the moveset, nothing can beat it for pure DPS.

I completely cheesed the fight with the three
hunters... I just closed myself in the prison cell and used long range attacks and a shit ton of molotovs lol.

Was it where you fought Father G? If yes,
one of them could have been your friend, if you met her before near the dogs and didn't attack her
.
If it is near A
melia
, you did fine.

HA! Nice! I'll search the area better tomorrow then =] time for supper!
Thank you very much!
First time I actually got lost, and not just afraid of missing content xD

Damnit
not able to get all 3 umbilical cords... already missed out on the 2 missable ones.
Not looking forward to going all the damn way through just for that yet again, but whatever :-/

Oh, make sure that BEFORE you kill that boss you kill
the guy in the Rocking Chair right before you jump, the guy you saw I think.
You'll get the mid-tier Eye Rune that gives you +70 Item Discovery. The other two are +50 and +100 which are a Ground Loot in one zone and a Chalice Dungeon drop, respectively.

Man this game really is short. I know it was my second playthrough but I beat it in 22 hours with my second character, only skipping one optional area.

So the blade of mercy being so hard to get is terrible game design

It should have unlocked with the kirkhammer or holy blade

Would have completely changed the way I played the entire game

Can't believe how entirely unique and fantastic it is
