Are these bell ringers present in every PVP enabled area?
In both nightmare areas, yes. Though the one in the
Frontier
is really easy to find/kill. She isn't too far into the level at all.

Wait, so in NF, if you have gone in once and killed the bell maiden (up on the ledge area) then when you go back she will be gone for good?
Yes. She does not respawn in either the
Frontier
or the Nightmare of
Mensis
later in the game. I was happy to be rid of them not because of the invasions but simply to be rid of the incessant ringing!

That just made my day. That level was driving me bonkers. Hard enough with all the normal enemies and crap, let alone getting invaded. She's dead this evening and I know right where she is, muwahahaha.

On another note, helped a buddy kill Rom last night. He had been stuck on him for 3 days. Was going nuts and getting so frustrated. Took us about 5 tries but he landed the killing blow as we both had less than 1/8 health left. He was so excited he was hooping and hollering. No other game gets the blood flowing like a Souls game.

I need some FUCKING help! For the love of all things holy I'm stuck. I encountered a new enemy in the cathedral ward. He was tall, used magic (first time I encountered magic), and had a bag over his shoulder. He wrecked me! Killed me in practically a single hit. Then instead of respawning at a lantern I woke up in a jail cell that I can only imagine is IN THE VERY DEPTHS OF FUCKING HELL. Jesus Christ the difficulty spike in this area is crazy ridiculous. I can't figure out a way out or a way to a lantern. I went one way and found a ton of dogs and another giant boar. Another way out had a boss I'm not even remotely prepared for (the big beast that uses electricity).

Help me.

I say it isn't because I don't like the moveset and think it's too short for its speed, where I think the hammer makes up for it with big splash and stagger.
It has amazing reach considering it's a heavy weapon. But personal preference will always play a part I guess but just like with claymore in dark souls you'll have a hard time convincing me it isn't the best option. I'll fight you m8, I swear on me mum

well, do we have western sales numbers for BB yet? its almost 2 weeks out..
really interessted in how good it performed.

Speaking of Rom, I am at him right now. Anyone around L47 has a little time to burn?

Right now I don't have a password set but can switch to GAF password

From the prison area, go up the stairs. There's a lantern right up there.

i'm curious if anyone can get through Defiled with a Kirkhammer only. that short range is gonna make it tough.

Concern about the Whore of Yharnam (can't remember her name):

(various NPC spoilers)
Ok, so she's in Cathedral Ward doubling over in pain. A bit ago she would have a couple lines of dialogue, but now she just moans. For reference, I only had her, the old lady, and the hobo from the Forbidden Woods at the Ward. I completely missed the church lady you can get in Hypogean Gaol. Hobo has, I assumed, killed the old woman and the blind creeper is gone (presumed dead). The last boss I have beaten was The One Reborn.
Have I fucked up my chances of something important happening with the prostitute? I can't even get her blood anymore. :/

Really wish I would have known where to get living string before moving on to NG+...now I can't do the great pthumeran iyll chalice until I get to the end of NG+...lame.

Gonna try the cursed & defiled chalice tonight...what does the "cursed" entail? I know defiled is half heath, but not sure what the cursed part is.

I call them "Santas".From your jail cell go up the stairs and keep going up. On the top is a lamp that will let you leave. Then you can warp back and explore. There is some good stuff in the level. Best way to kill Santa's is with Ludwigs Blade R2 attack. Just don't let them get too close or they will Chuck Norris you into oblivion.

EDIT: You can summon help just outside the boss door you found. He is not that bad. Go for his legs and when his head drops do visceral.

same, I knew where it was but I forgot to grab it before I went on. the good news is it's pretty easy to run through most of the game since you're not really picking up items or doing optional bosses anymore. still need to refight the mandatory bosses tho.

Walk outside of the door from the cell you're in when you wake up and go left. There's a set of stairs leading up. Keep heading all of the way up until you get to the top and there's a lamp. Get to it, activate it and leave.

You'll come there later in the game if you don't want to deal with the bagmen. If you're ballsy enough, there's a nice set of Yharnam armor outside of the cathedral you start in though you'll have to deal with some ugly shit outside to get to it.

Bagmen aren't that bad, frankly. The hit hard early on but boy are they easy to stagger. Especially when they pull back to do the bag attack. Shoot them, watch them collapse and then visceral attack. Back up, repeat. When they go red is when it gets nasty at lower levels - though if you're in the cell area, run back to the door opening where the set of stairs is. They can't get through that opening so you can peck away at them while they run up against the invisible wall.:D

On the contrary, you're on track to complete her story.

Yeah, was hoping to kinda take my time through NG+ a bit, but have a feeling I will rush now since I really want to tackle that chalice.

On another note, did the sinister lower loran chalice last night...there is no PvP there...was a bit disappointed. Guessing it will get more active later, since there is at least a +20% stam glyph in there. Guessing there will be a +15% health glyph also, probably in the sinister isz calice, might go there tonight also. I really am addicited to the chalices now.

Oh and fuck
abhorrent beast.
Got him in another chalice last night...guess I should be grateful, only took me about 15 tries instead of the 25 it took the first time.

You're on track.

Also.. Be sure to kill the damn hobo if you haven't already...

I could. I've enjoyed it but the game definitely has its faults. From the Forbidden Forest onward the game just kind of falls apart and becomes a chore to get through imo. Dark Souls had a similar problem but I still believe that was a superior game overall compared to Bloodborne.

Really? I've felt the game has picked up since the Forest. Absolutely loved the oppressive qualities of the Forest. The
snakes and alien-type creatures
, the strong enemy positioning throughout the level. The various different branches sending you this way or that. I loved the
shadows of Yharnam
boss fight. Didn't like
Rom
but it was different atleast. And I am just now getting deep into the
Nightmare level sections
and they are pretty incredible. The section where you are
running up to the building and that freakin sound kicks out from the window that lights up and then tries to send you into a Frenzy was awesome
. The enemy designs are getting more and more insane, like diving into someones Nightmare ( coincidence! ) and the atmosphere with the sky and everything starting with Rom has been incredible too.

I actually went back into Yharnam and other areas once those things happened just to see what had changed in the world. Ran into some unexpected surprises to say the least.

I'm 45 hours in now, didn't play much last night, and I think the game has gotten much stronger as time goes on. The transition in the world thus far has been incredibly well done.

While you are travelling around in Central Yharnam and the Ward and Old Yharnam and such like that I absolutely did not expect this sort of thing to be going on outside of the city lol.
The slow progression into this nightmarish world was very well handled. Starting with the Forest actually. It's almost as if they used the Forest as a transition between the beastly City and then the devlish/trippy/unorthodox/scary Nightmare that is holding the key for what is happening within the city.

Lol
The run is worth for the weapon also. Awesome weapon.

Agreed. It is also where I fine tuned my skills using Ludwigs Blade. Those Santas are great practice. The two by the lamp can be aggroed individually and you can git gud after a few rounds. I actually feel that level was the tuuning point for me in my skills using the weapons and parry. I really got a whole new feel for the different movesets and what not. Besides, going BACK there later on is MUCH WORSE imo.

Finally had some time over the weekend and made some mad progress. Beat the BSB and Hemwick Witches. Made it to the boss of the Forbidden Woods, the boss of Cainhurst and the boss of Nightmare Frontier. Not sure which one i need to take out to proceed.

This game has been challenging, engaging, but not hard. I think the hunter is way more powerful with his moves and quality weapons than a Dark Souls character. I beat a bunch of bosses on the first try or only needed a second try to win.

Buuuuuuut then
The red moon rose and Yaragh'Gul opened up
and the game got way, way, way harder. After going through most of that level and finding a shortcut I had to call it a night. Too stressful!

The real Bloodborne starts here. God damn it - I'm too old for this shit.

What skill level would you recommend for the scythe to be prolific in NG+? I'm currently at 26 skill and 38 vit. Would it be best to go with skill or vit this run?

Where should I go to get some Blood Chunks? I've got all areas excluding Chalice dungeons (working on those) accessible.

The
Upper Cathedral with the werewolves is a good spot. There are 5 of them and you can cheese them through the church doors. Equip runes with Discovery (the old man before Rom drops a good one) and have a go. I also think the gargoyles at Cainhurst castle is a good place.

Lol, my sentiments exactly. Make sure you get the key for
Upper Cathedral Ward
in the Unseen Village.

When it is revealed that the
Chulthu has been making those crazy warp portals that drop you from high up
I just couldn't stop grinning. Such superb world building.

Also
Rom
was rough.

So I'm rolling into NG+ to try and clean up some trophies I missed. Level 80-90. Ive been trying chiming for multiplayer but haven't gotten any results. Have I leveled myself out of being able to play with anyone? Or is NG+ its own thing since the enemies are tougher?

Help me.

You can cheese the sack carriers, if you want to revert to it - Lure them towards doorways and they can't fit through or lead them downstairs from near the lantern and they can't walk down the stairs either. R2 them to death (from distance).

what are the best attributes to focus on leveling up first?

dont think there really is a best tbh

i mean you can focus on health, heavy weapon / light weapon damage, secondary weapon damage, stamina.

really depends on what you want at the time. I didn't really have a focus and would pump VIT when I thought it necessary, or pump strength when I needed more punch to my weapons. Lately I've been pumping into Bloodtinge ever since getting the Cannon.

Atm I'm like 23 VIT, 30 STR, 20 Blood, 18 END.

Something like that. My char was a Troubled Past starter type.

That just made my day. That level was driving me bonkers. Hard enough with all the normal enemies and crap, let alone getting invaded. She's dead this evening and I know right where she is, muwahahaha.

AFAIK she doesn't appear offline? Or at least doesn't ring the bell... I've had to jump online just long enough for her to appear to eliminate her. After that they seem to stay dead.

I feel so stuck right now guys.

Been trying to beat the hunter that shows up in the
Grand Cathedral with the short twinblades
, but I can't; seems to be an impossible battle for me. I die way too quickly.

Made it through to
Eberitas
but I can't seem to summon any help for the fight, and in another direction I got to
The One Reborn
but the path out to that boss is a huge pain, especially the
group of hunters
waiting for me.

I purchased Ludwig's sword and rifle, but am unable to equip the sword -- need a few more points in STR before I can. I didn't realize it at first and upgraded it a number of times like a fool.

Ended up doing some of the Chalice dungeon stuff and now i'm around 42 insight, but I got stuck on a boss in there now and I feel like I need a lot more VIT..

I think i'll just need to farm some echoes for awhile. I had 50k on my character but I walked into one of the boss areas with it like a fool. I lost another 30k to the twinblade hunter. :(

I must be doing something wrong or whatever here.

I posted in the difficulty thread...wherever that is...that this game was not easy for me as a big-time Souls veteran, specifically that I found it harder than all of the Souls games. The most a Souls boss ever took me was Ornstein and Smough and that was 11 times. I am sitting at 38 for V
icar Amelia
and 43 for S
hadow of Yharnam
to much disbelief. Most bosses take me over 10 times easily, though none as bad as those 2 (A
mygdala
was maybe 18).

So I hear people tearing their hair out that it took them 10 tries to kill either boss or so and I just kinda shake my head and wonder why there's such a huge gap between me and them.

Then I read about people finding the NPC hunters difficult and realize that no hunter encounter took me more than 5 tries. I just beat
the three hunters in the Yahargul cathedral and it took me 4 tries, one to figure out that was the fight, one to kill the beast claw guy, one to find out the location of the other two guys and attempt to backstab and one to backstab the Spear Rifle guy successfully and kill him before whip lightning could get me, then handled him easily.
I find it insanely amusing that any human-esque enemy is pretty easy for me but it's the big bad monsters that I find so difficult.

Not to say any of that has prevented me from loving this game. I'm pretty sure at this point I like it more than DS2 and Demon Souls (sorry, sorry, I just like DS1 more).

That being said, and on a completely unrelated tangent, am I the only one freaked the FUCK OUT by
Amygdala?
That boss fight terrified me to hell and back and then when I entered
Yahargul and saw like...dozens of them climbing all over everything?
I quit the game and was like "Nah, I ain't prepared for that shit.

That creature design might be one of my favorite I've ever seen because of how much it unnerves and frightens me.

The scaling on the burial blade doesn't make any sense. It's supposed to be B in skill and and D in strength and yet if I pump my strength up (at 25 atm) it gives the same return as increasing my skill which is at 30.

Pretty sure under the hood it's a quality weapon.

Use numbing mist to keep him from healing himself. Also, he does his power up thing and that takes his health away. You can actually see it dropping. When that happens, attack him like crazy. He is also tethered to the hall so use the stairs to your advantage.

I think that is due to the fact that the magic scaling is B, but it is scaling up the arcane portion which is like base 40. While strength is scaling up the physical portion which is like 130 base...it can get confusing because of that set up, but it is correct, you just get more physical damage from str than you would from arcane due to the base values they are working off of.

3+ hours without having beaten the first boss, I like it! Back to that Demon's Souls sense of sink or swim in the first area you have access to. I can feel my skill with the core combat starting to inch forward and I think eventually this will have more to offer me combat-wise than any of the Souls games. The aggressive pace and constant dodging suit the way I have played up to this point and just general satisfies. Loving the threaded cane and transformation attacks in general.

questions so far...

1) So far my pistol has been useful mainly for luring individual enemies to me one at a time and barely of any use in combat whatsoever. So far as I understand this isn't as intended? Do I need to adapt to using it mid-combat or face a disadvantage?
2) How precious are the consumable echoes items? Coldblood Dew? Worth chowing down on in the early game?
3) Is weapon durability a thing at all?

But pumping the skill attribute would make more sense right? What is a quality weapon exactly?

I have a question about weapons. I'm trying to go for a more skill oriented build and I keep seeing trick weapons that require a ton of strength. Ludwig's blade is 16 strength. Are there more weapons that require skill as their main skill?
