Just beat
Ebritas
. Didn't fight her in my NG run, good fight, fuck
frenzy
, took a couple goes to work out the patterns.

Sit under her, dodge headslam, attack 3x, dodge headslam, attack 3x, dodge headslam, attack 3x etc. very easy once I figured that out. Don't even need to dodge per se, can simply walk to the side.

Yeah, tried that. Again, got him to about 20% and died...

Don't be greedy with your attacks. Most of the battle is closing the distance. Let him explode > attack once or twice > get out the way of the spiders and explosion > attack > out the way > attack etc.

Theres a large window where he telegraphs his explosion by rolling over and thats also just before the spiders lunge. If you aren't greedy you can avoid both at the same time and whittle down his health.

Holy shit upper cathedral ward. Such a haunting area that took me off guard with some of the enemies. I'm really satisfied with how the back half of this game has been in comparison to Dark Souls. Some of the game's best areas are saved for last rather than showing it's hand too early.

Well, I beat it. Was delaying as long as I could. Didn't feel as long or as epic as Dark Souls.

There was much I liked; the combat is the best in the series, I loved the setting. However, it lacked the sense of grandeur I got from Dark Souls. The world wasn't quite as mysterious, or at least in a way that I wanted to seek out.

Lastly, did anyone else find it disappointingly easy? The two most difficult bosses were the
Cleric Beast and then Rom
. The first because I was adapting to the new mechanics, the second because his area of effect spells sure started to stack up.

After the second boss mentioned above, I one shotted every boss with the exception of the
Moon Presence
. I am in NO WAY a super star gamer, and while I have experience with the Souls series, I am very much a plod away at it and hope for the best. It felt bittersweet; I liked that I felt powerful and skilled, but at the same time the boss fights will never be as memorable as some of the others in the series simply because I didn't have to fight them enough to learn to hate them, learn every trick, memorize the layouts, and cheer when I won.

All this said, BB was the most fun I've had since Dark Souls 2. This series tends to ruin other games for me. I have no interest in getting back into Dragon Age, for example. Fortunately, Scholar of the First Sin arrives Thurs.

How many of these Chalices do you have to do to get there? I just started the 3rd Chalice, Lower Pthemedsajlkfasdf Chalice

Depends. There are mats that you need to go into Ailing Loran for and other mats that you might not have got from the main campaign. At most, it's 5 after Lower Pthumeru.

I'm stuck. I killed A

I have it all the time with the dogs in that area, they vanish and reappear nearby.

Just happened to me last night. There was one in front of me and one in the distance. Closer one started charging me while I was locked on, suddenly he vanishes and my lock on jumps to the other further guy. BOOM surprise axe attack from behind.
Huh, seems like it's tied to that specific area.

I need an adult.
A giant cthulhu looking motherfucker just kidnapped me when I was exploring what I thought was an empty room with a locked door.
Oh don't worry, the fun is just beginning...

Remember the door that needed a password? In the Cathedral Ward area? Try going there now.

I pop them like candy with how easy they are to stockpile. As a system I don't like how it works on either end. I prefer how deliberate the estus system felt.

Blood vials work in BB's context. Blood is a finite resource in Yharnam. For more gameplay reasons, they want you to be aggressive and make a split second decision when fighting and taking damage. Do I use one of a limited reserve of healing items, or do I regain my health by attacking? If you have Estus, you never make that decision. You always know you that if you fail on this try, your next try will be exactly the same, and you never reach a point where you're on your very last leg and you have to step up and play perfectly because if you fail you have to recharge and spend time getting ready to fight again.

Imagine how easy the bosses would be if you had absolutely no reason to preserve your stash of blood, AND the regain system to heal up. I've heard that Miyazaki thought really hard and deliberated on what kind of healing system to go with and ultimately made the choice to go with vials. I'm inclined to trust his judgment and also inclined to believe he made the right call for Bloodborne.

In between the ward and the cathedral, in the circle area with the two giants theres a path leading to a sealed door that needs a password. You "got" the password from the cutscene after Amelia. Seems like everyone gets stuck here because its fucking stupid on Froms behalf.

Go left from the courtyard area with the two giants. There's a door with a guy asking for a password; you should know the password now.

Last Chalice boss:
What is causing that obnoxious bind? She doesn't cast anything, it just happens. Only way I can see to avoid it is to take potshots randomly at her and run away after a swing or two. It's like bind spikes.

It's not fucking stupid on From's behalf—if you explored, followed the story and put any mental effort into it you would understand completely, like many of us immediately did. If you want a game that does all the thinking for you and puts a big floating exclamation point over your next destination, play something else.

Finally beat this damn game. Never been so frustrated in my life.
Took about 35 hours.

NIGHTMARE SLAIN.

Man, I am hella lost on the story though.

It's not stupid at all. I figured it out on my own easily and so did my younger brother. There's a dev message at the top of one of the towers in the area that spells it out for you too.

And even if you don't figure it out, the game encourages you to explore old areas after beating VA with how all the NPC dialogue changes.

I had the opposite experience for the most part. I played the other games to death so some of it came easy but it's definitely a brutal game that took me back to the way I felt when I was new to the series and getting the feel of Demon's. I ended up yelling at my TV in furious joy and fist pumps at beating at least 4 or 5 of the bosses after adjusting to their tactics. They really brought back that old Souls satisfaction with this game that was severely lacking in DS2.

I just realized my trophy for one of the endings never unlocked?

didnt eat any umbilical cords and killed Gherman, got the wheelchair ending on my 2nd play through but the trophy never unlocked

Uhhh what?

Anybody know what caused this?

No, its fucking stupid. When you have dozens of people coming to the OTs asking what to do you fucked up. Bad level design. Poor communication. You aren't smarter, probably just more masochistic and persistent. YMMV if thats a good thing.

Beat Rom finally.
Spiders aren't too hard once you realize how easy it is to one or two shot them. Just watch for his ground ice when he rolls on his back, and dodge wildly when he stands up. Bolt Paper and Ludwig's FTW.

Like the right side door in the safe haven arbitrarily opening after BSB? :p

I'm sorry dude but are coming off a bit strong with your love for from and especially Miyazaki in your latest posts :p

It's all good tho, more power to you

If you
hit her while the baby is crying you get bound. Just listen for the sound and back off when you hear it

You totally went to the cemetery upon spawning at Firelink Shrine in Dark Souls, didn't you.

It's not bad level design if people occasionally get lost. Again, the game encourages you to go back to old areas since all the NPCs change after beating the boss that comes before.

And for another clue, Alfred switches positions so he's standing right next to the entrance to the next area and offers some lore info related to it.

This isn't a Sonic 3 barrel situation where everything comes to a dead stop because it's impossible to figure out what to do, it's a situation where the game winds down so you explore and naturally stumble upon new areas.

I'm laughing at the idea that you think persistence is a bad thing. When you have dozens of people coming to the OT to ask, what it means dozens of people have been trained and conditioned by other games not to think, and just follow the dotted lines. It doesn't mean that it's "bad level design" or "poor communication". Like I said, if you can't think for yourself, either learn to, or play a different game instead of labeling a developer as 'fucking stupid'.

so whats the gaf consensus better, slightly worse or equal to dark souls ?

Personally, I think it's better, seriously hope they have plans for DLC/Sequel. Possibly my all-time favourite game, also first time I started playing NG++ immediately after beating the game, for Demons and Dark I had some time without them then went back for NG+. There's things they could have done better but nothing too major.

One trophy short of Platinum, just beat Cursed Pthumerian Defilement yesterday, I wish you all luck there, it'll truly test you. Level 144 currently and these Chalice Dungeons really give lot of Echoes, after few layers usually have 500k.

Crazy to think that it's almost over. I feel like I've barely played at all.

I think you still get some health up to 99 Vit, but it's better to max out your other stats first.

Yeah Ive hit 50 with Skill and Bloodtinge, and 40 with endurance. Was thinking about putting some points into strength just so i could use some different weapons, but than i thought maybe i should just go for 99 Vit

In any other series this would be called pointless backtracking. Alfred might switch position but theres no reason to check his old or his new position, so its a moot point. If you do stumble upon his new spot you were probably already on the way to the door anyway.

How about I play the game and call out its shitty flaws, and you either deal with it and/or STFU with your wannabe toughguy, insulting attitudes whilst accepting From can and does make mistakes.

DS1>BB>DS2 For me. But I love them all /shrug

I didn't play much Demon's, I was trying a mage and hating it and didn't get too far. Remaster it and I'll buy it day 1 and play it, but I cba dragging my PS3 out

Late game spoilers, would appreciate an answer

If you join the
Vileblood Covenant
is it permanent? Can you unjoin? I don't want to swear the oath and have it messing up co-op for me the rest of the way.

Oh man Undead Giant was surprisngly difficult compared to everything before him in the chalices. Such massive damage, he was taking away 75% of my health in one swoop

One door to an optional area opening after beating a boss? Really? Not sure why people are bothered by this...lots of things in souls games are triggered by boss deaths. This isn't anything out of the ordinary.

Which version are you fighting? The one with the club and chains on his back? That was one of the toughest fights in the game for me.

Didn't mess it up for me at least.
You get Oath Memory Rune you can equip to join the Covenant but without that equipped I think you can just co-op normally.

Here's the thing: you aren't calling out any shitty flaws. You're calling out a design decision by From to reward the people who diligently check item descriptions, listen to cutscene dialog and explore all the nooks and crannies before they give up and ask for help. A lot of people really appreciate that design decision because we don't want our hand held, we want to unravel the riddles and figure it out on our own.

You need your hand held to figure out which area to go to? The problem is on your side, dude.

It was just an example of something random happening without explanation is all.

So I'm on my new playthrough. I realized something. There's more werewolves within the first 30 minutes of bloodborne than there is in all of The Order.
