Grand Theft Auto V Steam pre-load is live

Isn't that why this is the longest time before release a preload has ever had?
Mine was fine yesterday from RSC at 4MB/s.
I'm in the UK, so I think the USA was asleep while I downloaded.

Uh, well. I much rather have a shorter preload window with decent speeds than having to be downloading the game for 40 hours at snail speed. The launcher downloads at 5 MBps as soon as it starts, but a few minutes later it tanks to ~50 Kbps.

It would take me about 6 hours to download this. -_-

Oh, you poor soul. The humanity.

Anyone else get it from Amazon? I'm actually concerned now that they won't deliver until the evening of the 15th which would be pathetic.

hmm....

so i preloaded through RSC and nuuvem to my 128gb SSD. Is there any way to move that folder to my 1TB harddrive and link it back to my SSD? Kind of like Steam mover.

You could use a symlink if you cant just copy/paste and re-install to re-check the files.

Move the files (you could just move the data dir of the install) to the new directory and then run this command in CMD.

Code:
mklink /j "c:\source_dir" "d:\new_dir"

Since it uses RSC DRM there would be no compelling reason to use Steam's own DRM services on top if it can be had cheaper elsewhere, unless they make a concession for family sharing.

Not having to go deal with another login and client down the line would be convenient, assuming the bulk of your games are already on Steam.

The steam version still uses RSC DRM/log-in, and it would appear that steam is only used as a download/market platform.

I like all my games in one place. thats why i still buy Ubisoft games on Steam despite knowing it has Uplay client in it and even though it costs more than other stores.

RSC has auto log in, that'd skip the process each time you want to play, right? I'm gonna have to add GTAV to Steam too. The Steam overlay and all functions work correctly with external programs, right?

Saw the physical release today while picking up a game pretty cool

Bit the bullet and bought on steam. Currently downloading at about 650kbps. It should take about 30 hours I think.

I come from a land down under, where the Internet is utter shite and the government got elected on a promise not to spend money upgrading it to an acceptable standard.

Relying on the government to fix internet speed? What kind of country is this? No private sector?

So what's up with the download of GTA5 through the social club downloader? I've completed the download 3 times now and it just resets back to 20GB of 57GB. Is this some known issue?

Well just bought it and preloading. Based on reading how well it runs. Hopefully i haven't been bamboozled. ETA one day and six hours...

Think my gtx 970 and i5 can handle sixty fps?

of course it will. you only need an i5-3470 with a 660 to get 1080p 60fps on medium apparently. and a 760/7870 will run it at 4k 30fps with everything low/off.

How does an i5 3570k compare to the recommended CPU anyway?
It's basically the same CPU, but the 3570k comes at 3.4Ghz stock(compared to 3.2Ghz for the 3470). This is an advantage, but only a marginal one. The real benefit of the 3570k comes from the 'k' part, which means you can overclock it. With any semi-decent CPU cooler, you can get it over 4.0Ghz with ease, giving it a much larger advantage over the 3470. Mine sits at 4.2Ghz without being stressed with a $30 cooler.

I preordered the retail (7 dvd) version since my net is too shit to download 60 GB in a reasonable time. $40. I have a strict no preorder policy but I have a feeling I can trust Rockstar on this one.

Thanks. I never tried really overclocking my CPU but I bought one of the Hyper 212 Evo coolers in case I ever felt like it. I wonder how much more I can get outta GTAV if I overclock it, and how far it can possibly be clocked without issues.

Performance thread's gonna be awesome.

i'm kinda new to using steam. can someone explain why i keep getting "updates" for the preload?? i don't think it's actually downloading anything but that's twice after opening steam it says there's an update.

that's a good cooler choice!

The client understands it has not done everything it should have done to prepare the game for you, but it can't do anything else until the moment of release, so the download just hangs and waits.

That's the same cooler I have. At the very least, you can turn it up to 4.0Ghz with no issues. 4.2Ghz shouldn't trouble it, either. Above that and you might want to do stress tests and whatnot just to be safe.

I'd really recommend doing it. The I need a new PC thread folks would be glad to help you out with it. It's pretty damn easy, especially if you're not trying to get a super high overclock. GTA V would probably be the type of game that would benefit from it, though there's no guarantee of that.
