Witcher 3: Official Gameplay Trailer

Combat has always been really bad in Witcher (worst in W1, W2 was just sort of Elder Scrolls boring), but hopefully they fixed it up this time since you're going to be playing it for a million years. It looks decent in the trailers but you never know till you try.

Nah, The Witcher 2's combat for me is vastly better than in the Elder Scrolls games.

It feels like some people are trying to rewrite history and sell this idea that the Witcher 2's combat is terrible. You're of course free to think that for yourself, but you need to recognize many of us enjoyed it quite a lot. Go back and read the reviews...sure there were some complaints about certain aspects, but the combat was generally praised and we'll received.

I wonder if this game will have proper HBAO+ support on PC. Those foliage screengrabs would look way better with the grass having at least some form of shadowing.

Save us PC ultra setting, you're our only hope!

Wow, the game's looking great! Hopefully CDPR will release a few more trailers; specifically ones that focus on Major Characters, Combat/Alchemy, or the card game that was previewed.

The vampire encounter looks pretty amusing, though I wonder what is the significance behind the year 1358.

I know I asked this question before (got lost in discussion lol), but how well do you guys think this will run on an i7-4930K, 780 Ti, and 64GB of RAM? I'm wondering if I will be able to push 1080p with 60 frames per second.

I think you will, probably on mixture of high/ultra. 780Ti is still powerful as hell.

So I'm pretty excited to see that ritual where the girls are smearing what I'm assuming is blood all over their faces. My Witcher is going to be all about that.

Who knows? The game isn't even out yet. Have there been benchmarks published for it already?

I hate these kinds of trailers. Hey stupid, our game has a, b, and c. Now look at a, b, and c that I just told you about.

Do we really need a description of everything right as you're about to show it to us?

It's helpful if you're trying to get the viewer to focus on something specific about a scene rather than just hope they pick up on what you're trying to get across.

Well, otherwise you have people asking what you can do in this game. See No Man's Sky for example.

It's just so off putting to me. Wouldn't you want your players to figure the game out by playing it?

I feel like I'm being read an instruction manual instead of watching a trailer.

Even the narrator sounds as boring as possible.

I mean people are and were a lot more sure what you can do in TW3 than NMS - not so much having to do anything with one trailer, but rather the developer-audience conversation has consistently been much stronger with CDPR.

The execution is purposeful. It is designed to be like a presentation. It is not showing you how to play the game or anything, just showing what the game offers.

If you just want ordinary action trailers, they've put out a couple already.

I fully agree with you, some of these videos are probably similiar to reading manuals in the old days but who (except us hardcore gamer) would read manuals these days (if there are any).
They need to package it for the mainstream market otherwise they'll never notice it and only a small minority actually uses all the features.

This is just anecdotal evidence, but I showed the video to a few casual player friends (plays a maximum of two maybe three games a year), and they said this video made them way more interested in the game then a normal movie like trailer would have. They said mainly due to the fact that the game visually/art wise looks like everything else but having been explained why stuff is cool they see how it could be fun for them to play it.

So yeah, I think these videos serve a important role. It might not be for the hardcore segment, but it's obvious they're branching out with this game ,and going for a more broad appeal. Just by the fact that the speaker in the video never calls it The Witcher 3, but strictly refers to it as The Witcher Wild Hunt is an indication that they want to appeal to more then just fans of the series.

It's just a trailer man... Considering how many comments I've read from people (Various places around the web) saying that they've now jumped onto a pre-order where they were previously sceptical, all because of this trailer, it's clear this kind of thing works.

Personally I wasn't a fan of the narration either, but you have to be able to understand why trailers like this are necessary.

I like these kind of trailers. Reminds me of the Red Dead and Gta Online trailers.

This looks fantastic...better than the last footage to be honest. Beside the demo of FFXV this is easily my most anticipated game so far this gen...!

please....show me what the fuck looks better.... please. (if you post drive club, don't let the door hit you on the way out.)

I watched the video twice in utter disbelief. the wind blowing on the greenery... the sharpness of the textures and the draw distance... this is unbelievable. this has to be max settings.

Hmm, with scale of the scale of the world and the variety they have in there, I think this may take the cake. However, in terms of up close and dirty, I think the Order 1886 has more impressive visuals. In terms of open world, the october footage of FFXV looked more impressive as well, but the demo had stuff toned back. Either way, I think this looks a landmark in open world titles. Witcher 2 impressed me no end on PC, and this looks quite a bit better and much more massive scale. Those things together make the leap almost as much as Witcher 1 (weak visuals) --> Witcher 2

True. I suppose if they're always called "Official Gameplay Trailer" or something similar they should be easy to avoid.

I think part of why I don't like it is because I'm not much of a fan of open world games. So I don't care one bit how many square miles your game is, or how many thousand things you can do. I generally just want to know if it's fun and exciting. A trailer can only sort of do one of those.

It's too bad it won't have a demo. If they improved the control feel over the witcher 2, I might have bought it.

Noticed that as well.
Not sure if they've actually play/beat the game yet.

Normal action trailers will never tell you if a game is going to be fun and exciting. They are just edited and often choreographed specifically to make it *look* fun and exciting, whether it actually is or not. Basically, they aren't there to convey information, just to generate interest and awareness.

This sort of trailer is meant to be informative. It won't be something you see on a TV spot or anything.

Anyways, sounds like you're looking for reasons to not buy it anyways. I'm doubting any sort of trailer was ever going to convince you.

Just over a month away, cant wait.

Im sooo tempted to play a murdering asshole, but i know you miss out on a heap of stuff that way. Might have to settle for being a semi mass murdering asshole.

Yeah. As I said, a normal trailer can only sort of tell you if the game is exciting. It can't tell you if it's fun. That's why I said I hope the game has a demo.

Anyway, these trailers just make me cringe. That's not the best word for it, but I can't think of anything better right now.

Her voice was bad but I'd much rather have a trailer with some meaningful information in it than just a bunch of flashy editing to make stuff look cool.

I much prefer this style of trailer to the "heres a bunch of story cinematics/cg with loud music" approach.

The game definitely won't have a demo.

I want to get excited for this but not being able to see the PS4 version until (most likely) after launch has me tempering my excitement.

I really don't enjoy Witcher 1's gameplay. Will I be missing anything if I watch the 3 hour youtube story movie of it and jump straight into Witcher 2?

Not really. It was fairly stand alone in plot. Some prophecy elements might come back in Witcher 3, but the only thing that really carries over from Witcher 1 to 2 is the Epilogue, and Geralt's circle of friends.

Witcher 1 is best Witcher.

But no, you won't be missing much, and by much I mean a vibrant world full of religious fanaticism, bigotry, racial discimination, and a few other problems, in which you have to make real decisions, hunt monsters, and help restore a sort of order.

I dunno, I liked W1 much, much more. W2 felt like a cheaper version of ASOIAF, but it's still a great game.

Game looks fantastic but one thing that bothers is me the subtitles coming from the NPCs. I hope we can turn them off without turning off the main subtitles.

Yeah well we are not interested in DS mechanics in a Witcher game. Not everything has to be a Souls game. Witcher has its own charm, and accept the way it is. Don't try to shoehorn what other game did right; it doesn't work that way.

I'd be furious if they made id souls like.

I dig the world and characters, but the clunkiness of the battle system is just too much for me. I made it a good percentage into the game before and now having to replay that part is just killing me.

Preach! The first Witcher was my favourite. I suffered through extremely long loading screens (I played it on day 1) and bugs because of the story and the world itself. I played the second one multiple times, and although the story was clever (and really complicated), it's nowhere near TW1. I hope that what they said about TW3 being more similar to TW1 won't be limited to slavic soundtrack.
