Witcher 3: Official Gameplay Trailer

Can't wait until we see some PS4 footage. That is where I will be playing it.

Well same here but the lack of footage from either console doesn't inspire confidence. Bishop said earlier that things generally come together with haste towards the tail end of development but it still irks me to no end to not have seen what this game will look like on platforms which will in all likelihood earn it substantial if not majority portion of the overall sales.

Didn't they already show the XB1 version?

I agree. weird decision from CDPR to not show the PS4 version. Maybe it wasnt up to them, maybe they were forced to show the PC version?? if not then I dont know why they decided to only show PC

I have hope. People who have played it on consoles said that it looks fantastic on both, with the PS4 having an edge. A guy in this very thread commented on how he played the Xbox One version and said that it looked exactly like the footage in this trailer. I would not worry.

Probably because it is the best version to play/show. They want to show the game as pretty as they can. They will eventually show every version closer to launch.

Yes, that was during E3 and a pretty vertical slice at that.

The PS4 version hasn't been shown yet to marketing reasons with MS. That's why I'm a touch baffled at the lack of xbone version at the least.

I'm pretty sure some of the footage from last year was the XB1 version. We likely won't see PS4 until after launch though.
*Edit* ^^^ Looks like you were aware of that.

Isn't there a fair amount of XB1 footage in the wild? Also they're going to prefer demo-ing it on PC for obvious reasons but we also know there have been press previews with the game running on every platform, couple that with the fact that Witcher 2 on X360 was a surprisingly good port I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Maybe the xbox version is not shown due to the restricted hardware compared to the PC..maybe it will be just to big of a difference and it will reflect poorly for the xbox one?

Edit: Seems like somone said they showed Xbox at E3..but was it confirmed Xbox and not PC?

Re: the "fuck off" line.

How come B-tier (comedy) writing becomes A-tier just because its in a video game? If that line was in a movie, it'd barely raise a smirk but because it's a video game, people are losing their minds over it.

It's more about context and delivery, really.

Yeah, some of the previews mentioned that it looked even better than DA: Inquisition on consoles, and the PS4 comes out on top with the most detail and a higher resolution. I naturally still want to see some footage, but I am confident that it will be great on both systems.

No, the only public footage of the game on xbone was shown during E3 2014 and all others have been PC footage with controller. And thus far, only press have been allowed to see the game run on all platforms behind closed curtains.

With regards to TW2, there were decent amount of footage available for x360 prior to release.

I know why they'd feel the need to showcase their game on consoles in private to journalists; however, if the PC version can undergo notable changes through development then why can't they trust the console audience to be understanding of the same?

Pretty much my fear. They're selling everyone on a dream that few with powerful PCs will be able to live.

Yea CDPR confirmed that the E3 footage at MS's booth was the xbone version.

I had to.

Oh god, perfect.

But the press has played it on both Xbox One and PS4. A guy in this very thread even commented on how great it was on the Xbox One and the PS4 version is supposed to look even better according to the previews.

Do you have any idea how much you've quelled my worries? I could probably kiss you. Maybe not, but probably. o___o

Go read some of the hands-on previews, man. They had a big event here awhile back and plenty of people played all versions of the game. Hell, I have read multiple impressions here on GAF from people who played it on Xbox One and they were blown away. It's going to be fine, but obviously the PC will get all of dat ultra goodness.

I'd like to see it if possible but really not in the mood to scour 25 pages to do so. A rough idea as to where to find it would be appreciated.

If it doesnt look better on PS4 then I will not buy this game. I hate parity and will never support it. They should be able to make the PS4 version a lot better than the xbox one.

PS4 version supposedly runs at 1080p as opposed to 900p of xbone. Previous press impression stated that the PS4 version had framerate issues (but that was quite a while ago).

It has already been confirmed that X1 is 900p, and PS4 is 1080p, so obviously they are not doing any parity bullshit.

Not to mention that by the sounds of things they've optimized the game a whole lot just in the last few months. For the consoles that probably doesn't mean a huge graphical boost or anything, most likely just a smoother Framerate, but still I think the console versions will be fine.

That said, they really do still need to release some PS4/X1 footage (Preferably PS4). There's a lot of new Sony fans looking at this game, and it would be pretty shitty to just never show them how their version of the game is going to look, they need to be able to make a more informed purchase.

Nah, The Witcher 2's combat for me is vastly better than in the Elder Scrolls games.

It feels like some people are trying to rewrite history and sell this idea that the Witcher 2's combat is terrible. You're of course free to think that for yourself, but you need to recognize many of us enjoyed it quite a lot. Go back and read the reviews...sure there were some complaints about certain aspects, but the combat was generally praised and we'll received.

I don't think TW2's combat is terrible by any means but its not something I would praise either... its just ok. Looking whats been improved and added to TW3 though, I can totally see it being elevated to something that is really enjoyable for me.

All the major complains are addressed:
- More responsive, TW2's elaborate animations gone.
- QTEs gone.
- Finishers are now real time and only occur on the final enemy.
- Introduced a quick dash for dodging, Rolling is now just for creating distance.
- Potions can once again be used during combat.

They've also added a lot more depth:
- Crossbow with various mods.
- All signs have two modes.
- Adrenaline meter that builds as you deal damage without taking any, used to pull off powerful abilities.
- Toxicity has to be managed during combat.
- Monsters have unique strengths and weakness that can be exploited using bombs, oils, runes, tod, weather, ect.

My one standing gripe, based on what we've seen, is that you're still somewhat reliant on that combat wheel. I know theres a way to scroll through them but I still want a way to "quickfire" Signs.

It was yesterday afternoon, but I am not sure which page. He mentioned that it did not look any different from the trailer.

There was also another guy back from the preview event that was floored by playing it on Xbox One. On top of that, we have all of the press previews that played both versions and mention that it looks even better than Dragon Age: Inquisition, with the PS4 version coming out on top. The only issues they noticed were some frame drops here and there, but that is supposed to be ironed out.

Am I the only one who didn't mind the QTEs at all?

I honestly don't know why so many are opposed to them. I thought they worked just fine in TW2. (I only played the 360 version, if that makes a difference.)

I don't really see why you'd expect CDPR to show off the console version. Pretty much every multiplatform title is shown on PC unless in a specific co-marketing framework, for obvious reasons.

So I can make a more informed purchase? After Assassins Creed Unity, I'm never buying a multiplatform game again before seeing the console versions in action.

So I guess I'm gonna wait till May 19th to find out if they are half decent ports?

Well, if the devs are to be believed, you won't have to wait that long before seeing decent console footage.

Agreed. I don't think it's devious of them not to show them, but I do think that doing an mgs ground zeroes style comparison video would shut everyone up. People can't scream downgrade because they show the pc version in all its "maxed out" glory, but it would also address any concerns surrounding the console version. It would also be quite amusing for everyone to witness platform warriors melting down over it. Do it, CDPR

It's just so off putting to me. Wouldn't you want your players to figure the game out by playing it?

I feel like I'm being read an instruction manual instead of watching a trailer.

Even the narrator sounds as boring as possible.

I know like everything about W3 at this point, I follow the oficial forums maybe every day, seen and heard every interiew of the developers, etc. and I still really like this type of game-trailers - and I think this is the best trailer for W3 so far.. hell, one of this type of game-trailers had won me over L.A. Noire (yeah, I enjoyed my time with that game)..

Wasn't it also a long while back? I've seen games pulling together into a beautiful product in the final stretch (last 3-4 months) from both content and performance point of view. So, him being truthful back then and the game coming out ok in the end could both be real.

I wasn't implying that he was lying, just making the point that somebody being vetted doesn't necessarily mean the info they're giving out is accurate.

Now I'm curious, how similar is Polish to Czech?

I can understand some words, sentence here and there, but I probably would not be able to have a full conversation where we would fully understand each other.

people "chuckled" over that "then fuck off" line?

they probably fell off their chairs when that wino called geralt a cocksucker as well.

humor, how does it work?

The cocksucker line was not really funny, but it wasn't insulting either. It was a friendly meant cocksucker. That was example of a line that worked better in original.

But that guy with the missing front teeth was pretty funny. So was the vampire who just wanted to sleep. Sorry if I got a chuckle out of it.

I don't think I've ever seen you say a single positive thing about The Witcher 3. Are you even interested in the game?

Yes, people chuckled over that line, because it's well delivered and an amusing thing for a Vampire to say. Sorry if it doesn't quite match your enlightened and clearly superior level of humour.

That's me! :)

Well then good sir, you look dashing in that picture! :D

It's not tiling, it's the polygons there being stretched. It's a common issue with armpits in particular, because if you move your arm in certain ways the skin there stretches a ton and adding extra detail there to account for that is a huge waste of resources most of the time.

Yes you are right of course. A common thing to see. Still impressed by the character model quality consistency shown so far.

I'm glad I finally know the tech limitations of armpits.

Yup. However, facial animation and subtle gestures during conversations still have a long way to go
When you're talking about as many hours of cutscenes and dialogues tw3 has it isn't really reasonable to expect something like uncharted/(Insert linear game here)
