Nah, The Witcher 2's combat for me is vastly better than in the Elder Scrolls games.
It feels like some people are trying to rewrite history and sell this idea that the Witcher 2's combat is terrible. You're of course free to think that for yourself, but you need to recognize many of us enjoyed it quite a lot. Go back and read the reviews...sure there were some complaints about certain aspects, but the combat was generally praised and we'll received.
I don't think TW2's combat is terrible by any means but its not something I would praise either... its just ok. Looking whats been improved and added to TW3 though, I can totally see it being elevated to something that is really enjoyable for me.
All the major complains are addressed:
- More responsive, TW2's elaborate animations gone.
- QTEs gone.
- Finishers are now real time and only occur on the final enemy.
- Introduced a quick dash for dodging, Rolling is now just for creating distance.
- Potions can once again be used during combat.
They've also added a lot more depth:
- Crossbow with various mods.
- All signs have two modes.
- Adrenaline meter that builds as you deal damage without taking any, used to pull off powerful abilities.
- Toxicity has to be managed during combat.
- Monsters have unique strengths and weakness that can be exploited using bombs, oils, runes, tod, weather, ect.
My one standing gripe, based on what we've seen, is that you're still somewhat reliant on that combat wheel. I know theres a way to scroll through them but I still want a way to "quickfire" Signs.
