What do you Think Bloodborne's Sales mean for Sony/From/Souls going Forward

Sort of piggybacking this question off the news from this thread http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1028938.
If a mod feels this isn't different enough feel free to lock.

Bloodborne : 1 million sold in 10 days (PS4)

Dark Souls II : 1.2 million shipped in 3 weeks (PS3, 360, PC)

Bloodborne is the fastest selling Souls game, we can't say for sure that will mean it will be the highest selling overall but its a reasonable assumption given the rate.

Just to compare those numbers, Bloodborne sold the same amount in a 1/3 of the time as an exclusive, and on nearly 1/10th of the player base.

I think we're guaranteed to get 1-2 good DLC's for Bloodborne. But what do you think these sales mean for the future of From Software going froward with Sony, but also overall. Its clear that their appeal and sale-potential isn't limited to the Souls name or universe.

I think more From/Sony collaborations have good potential to be in store given the fact that From/Kadokawa can make a game thats sold faster and potentially more than the DS1/2 as an exclusive funded by Sony and without carrying the development risk but still reaping the benefits. From a business standpoint is it possible that From/Kadokawa may look at it as "Why would we carry the risk and fund our own game when it will sold more when someone else payed for it." I may be incorrect but don't traditionally, exclusive entries in a series sell less than the main ones?

Also I'd like to think we may see more variated games in the sense that From may not limit themselves to just the Souls lore/universe or Bloodborne but have more freedom with the story and mechanics but just keeping the core feel of the gameplay the same.

What do you guys think?

Just a correction, those 3 week sales doesn't include PC since it wasn't released yet in that time.

They are going to have to stay inexpensive games to make as they lack a large audience appeal. They aren't tentpole games...to compare a single system game, Halo 4 sold 3.1 million in 24 hours. I think From's games will continue to have a medium sized dedicated audience

Edit: better comparison for this early in gen 3.3 million halo 3 in 12 days

I actually don't want Bloodborne to get a direct sequel. If Miyazaki wants to do more Souls games let him do more spiritual sequels that give him more freedom to introduce new ideas.

Alternatively, I'd love to see a Dark Souls 1 remaster happen. Out of all of the Souls games, it's the one that needs a remaster the most. DS1 doesn't have dedicated servers, Blighttown had a bad FPS drop, and Black Magic could use a nerf.

I think Sony is probably kicking themselves for not buying From before Kadokawa did. Aside from that, Kadokawa seem happy to make Playstation exclusives and I'm sure Sony will be making lucrative offers to From (and Miyazaki) for more Bloodborne games. There's no doubt at all that this will become a permanent series for Sony, and I've no doubt in the long term sales could top 3 million. Maybe even more than that, making it a major tentpole franchise for them.

Sure thing man, compare Bloodborne to the Halo series. Completely fucking sensible comparison there bro.

I think we're probably about to get dat Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed yearly feelz with this series.

DLC is expected.

I reckon its really up to Sony. If they want to continue this partnership, then it will considering the success. Miyazaki also mentions how he wishes for unlimited budgets (lol).

It means they keep on trucking. The sales are good, especially for only being on one console, but they're not making the type of money something like TLOU or UC would bring in. They'll keep pumping out AA games, and that's for the best. Wouldn't want them to become an Acti pumping out a souls game once a year(Well, they're almost doing that at this point).

Well From has a Deal with Sony and a Deal with Namco and they have two teams working on Soul style games. I'm sure after Bloodborne's success that Sony will not be wasting any time to ask From for a follow up. As long as Dark souls continues to sell then I'm sure Namco will still want to publish more in the series.

I think Dark Souls will continue multiplatform by one team and they will probably continue projects with another team through a Sony partnership. As well as their games are progressing in sales they may even create a new team to try some different games again.

It wasn't out yet.

Oh right.

Onto OT
i definitely see more collaboration. there are already 2 Playstation exclusives FromSoft have in the works.

Kadokawa seem contempt with working with playstation.

On sonys side im sure it doesn't cost them gangbusters to be funding fromsofts games esp if their collaborations with japan studio.

If nothing changes then we hopefully see a healthy relationship between the two.

Sony atleast know the significance of Miyazaki so thats a +. He will probably be the front runner for any ps4 exclusives moving forward.

Let's hope more Japanese dev see this as a success story for next gen only game and stop making cross gen game

Please lets just move to Asian influenced and stop fucking around instead and constantly hinting at it on the 3 katanas.

Bloodborne 2 is a lock basically.

Will Miyazaki direct it though? That's the question.

He doesn't seem to me like someone who would work on a direct sequel to his games. Demon's and Dark obviously don't count since they're different IPs with different worlds.

Dark Souls will become a staple, new IPs will be pumped out. I don't think we'll ever see a sequel to Bloodborne unless it goes the route of Dark Souls for multiplat and by another team. Miyazaki said he likes doing new IPs himself. I don't think he has ever had an interest in sequels.

If there's a Bloodborne sequel I don't think it would be by Miyazaki and his team. I'm personally not that interested in a sequel to Bloodborne.

Obviously Bloodborne 2 with a greater focus on action, co-op, and some additional streamlining of the systems that are too complex for the mass market. This series is going to breakout and be a monster seller, mark my words. Bloodborne established the audience, now Bloodborne 2 needs to expand it.

Literally? I'd say a King Cobra in my pants or a pressure sensitive mine under my foot are probably things I want less than yearly game sequels.

I stand corrected

I was watching one of the (old) ENB's videos today and he makes an interesting argument. From was using Sony's support to develop engine for Demon's Souls and then, with fully functioning engine, proceeded to make Dark Souls.
Maybe we'll see new cross-platforming game (Dark Souls 3 or new IP) with Bloodborne engine sometimes in the future?

If Sony is paying for it it's unlikely that From Software is reaping all the benefits.

I'd rather see them doing it on their own, than being a work for hire studio. At this point their soul-like games shouldn't really be a risky venture, and now that they're owned by kadokawa they really shouldn't need to go to an outside publisher to raise capital.

In the short term, I just want Bloodborne DLC. A significant amount, like the 3 DLCs released for DkS2.

In the not so short term, I'd like to see Dark Souls 3, directed by Miyazaki, with some of the fluidity/combat improvements seen in Bloodborne. That said, I think the regen mechanic and sidestepping mechanic will remain a defining characteristic of the Bloodborne franchise.

I am ready to go back to the Dark Souls universe with Miyazaki's direction at the helm. Bring it, FROM.

Sony can work with the publishing side of Kadokawa to expand the franchise to novel, manga, anime, movie, TV series, etc. etc. etc.

Or do from the west, just like what halo did...same idea, novel, comics, netflix TV series lol

you miss the point that FROM made Dark Souls due to Sony not willing to fund a sequel. Sony is willing and taken a pro active stance now.

I hope it means that we get DLC and a Demons Souls-Dark Souls Remaster. And of course most of all I hope it means we get a new BB game in two years.
