Only thing I could imagine being censored a bit more would be event scenes that involve Lizerietta and Tsurara. Not sure if they would mess with some of the bosses though.

Guess we will have to wait for an official statement on it as am sure Atlusprime is gonna get those types of questions.
Sounds good to me!

Even if they censor it a bit, as long as the core gameplay component remains the same, I'm in. I'm really loving the DRPG love the Vita is getting. It's actually one of the main reasons I'm purchasing the console in June [I have the P4G Dancing All Night version pre-ordered].

There were a couple of minibosses in the post-game that will probably have their CGs censored too because they look even younger than Liz and Tsurara. The scenes for those two monsters were pretty tame but the situation will probably be uncomfortable in the first place.

Hopefully it wont be censored at all. Atlus and Xseed seem to be better then NISA when it comes to these issues so we'll just have to wait and see.

Paint on bathing suits here we come! I still have yet to do all the post game stuff. D: Doubt Ill get to any time soon with Op Babel + TH2:DT coming out at the same fucking time at the end of the month...(-ω-")ムゥー

Guess folks will have to go and ask Atlusprime about it closer to release.

I am suprised. but already have the psp and vita jp version. still a great drpg.

edit: I hope I won't have any trouble with my channel now lol.

Please no censorship.... That always makes me skip games.

Would be more about if it would pass for the targeted age rating rather than public outcry. So not exactly the fault of the company depending on the situation. Titles where devs literally cut out content thats when its ok to vote with your wallet. Such as Yakuza 3 for example. But for this title you would be more cutting yourself out of a good game to play just due to something small such as editing some images if it is ever done. As those types of situations as mentioned have more to do with the age rating than trying to protect virgin eyes.

If in the past we had to remove something as small as blood appearing just to lower the Age rating was not even that bad too considering. With that in mind can only imagine how stupid the reactions would be to some of the content with this title. My own personal opinion about the ESRB is they are outdated and unecessary, esp with how random they are with what they deem to be ok / not ok. CERO can be just as big of a pain in the ass which doesnt help things either. Actually make that CERO is a bigger pain in the ass as they have even more weird restrictions than the ESRB.

I am suprised. but already have the psp and vita jp version. still a great drpg.

Id actually be more worried about your channel now that the US lawyers will be on the loose...

Better give a hefty payoff to Atlusprime to keep the heat off your back lol.

I think/hope that if they were going to censor anything, they would've been up front with it. NISA/IFI mentioned when they announced Mugen Souls/Criminal Girls etc. that some things needed to be edited. Atlus doesn't have a track record of censoring games in the recent era so I'm going to be optimistic and assume it will be uncensored.

Surprising announcement. I think at least some aspects will have to be censored, but we'll see.

I've been playing the JP Vita version the past weeks. I'm about 22 hours in (up to Chapter
6
), and I'm enjoying it very much. Unlike some other people who have played the game and posted impressions, so far I don't find it to be particularly difficult (Demon Gaze was harder from the get-go), but the story is nicely done, the characters are interesting and diverse (and 100% fully voiced!), the encounter rate is just right, the dungeons are complex and expertly crafted, and the skill upgrade system and class change system are both very well made. It is a highly polished, enjoyable and addictive game with a good, smooth difficulty curve. Taking into consideration all aspects of the game, I do think it is the best DRPG I have played thus far.

Didn't Atlus censor Tears to Tiara 2?
Anywho, Atlus never localized a game like this so that changes things.

Even if some stuff is slightly censored, it should have pretty much zero impact on the game itself overall. People would not even know considering how few have actually purchased the original title.

the beginning is cake but later there's some crazy stuff hehe. but it always depend on your party/skill and later your gear...post game requires lots of farming with the class door...I think I spent 240 hours in my game, there's still a few god and other boss I could kill...

They didn't censor it, there was nothing in the game that was very risque to begin with really. Also, Conception II had quite a bit of fanservice in some of the CGs, I think if they were fine with that stuff they won't censor this game, they're clearly not afraid of an M rating.

Did a quick search did not see anything that popped up for that. The original title which was based off of a PC eroge was censored for the JP release like other eroge ported over to handheld or console, though dont think those made it to the West?

Have the JP version of II and from what I saw with the game do not recall anything that stood out. Granted have not fully completed it yet though.

Yeah, I've read the post-game is so large it dwarfs even the main game in time required, but dozens of hours of constant grinding doesn't really appeal to me, and I'm really only interested in the main story/chapters. Plus To Heart 2 Dungeon Travelers is coming out on the 30th and I want to move on to that after this.

Anyway, it is very nice that this game provides a ton of post-game content for those who are interested in tackling it all. Maybe some day I'll give it a go when there is a DRPG drought.

I'm almost positive they'll do something for all the more underage looking ones. I posted some examples off-site, will remove from this post if it's bannable. NWS warning of course.

It's definitely standard fare early on but there are some fairly difficult bosses and even regular encounters for the level where you reach them in the post game.

One of my favorite things about the game is the attention to detail they paid to character conversations and events while in dungeons. For a regular playthrough most people won't even see a huge chunk of them because a lot of them have very specific requirements like using a certain skill or item on a specific party member, a specific party member getting a particular status ailment, or require a specific combination of characters to be in your party with another condition in battle etc. It kept even the post game really fresh and gives you something to look forward to when you try a new character.

Oh yeah I forgot about those doll enemy types. The physical resistant ones.

Yeah those really help bring the characters to life and are well done. As you said too, get folks to look forward to when using a different party / setup.

Yeah, I really love this. It is always a nice surprise as you are traversing the dungeons.

The question is did Atlus figure out something to make those particular design aspects of the game viable with subtitles squeezed in somehow or did they just say fuck it and will leave them unsubtitled under the decision of it being non crucial for story / gameplay.

As long as the overall quality of the product is good the fans should overlook it. Now in the event if Atlus did leave some small features not localized.

If all to it are random phrases in Japanese there's no harm in leaving them untranslated.

I'm playing Disgaea 4 in Japanese at the moment and all the battle cries and celebrations are unsubbed and it doesn't effect my enjoyment of it one bit. That's one thing I appreciate about NISA is they generally include the original Japanese track as an option, and I wish Atlus would follow suit more often.

Blech. Are you that starved for stuff to localize, Atlus? I know you can do better.

I don't know what I expected.

Another niche publisher announcement, the more I feel alienated from the market.

Aksys have been keeping it classy. TTGH had almost none of this tripe.

From the impressions it seems to be a good game. I am going to give this game a try and I am happy Atlus is localizing it.

It seems fun. So was Demon Gaze, but I'm not fond of playing handheld games where I have to plan on hiding the screen at work at any given moment.

Why are all the dungeon crawlers coming out now this same aesthetic? :/ And they can't even balance it out with some loinclothed barbarians or something?

I always said I don't generally have a problem with fanservicey stuff within reason, but most are not even attempting any sort of balance now. I feel like unless you're into this particular style of game, everyone else is being pushed out of the niche JRPG market, and that sucks. I've passed over quite a few recently because of this.

To be honest its because there is no real market for it is how companies that produce these types of games think. In general Japan does not cater to the LGBT community. So with that said do not get your hopes up as its not exactly something which would change any time soon unfortunately. Hell there still are a lot of general problems between male and female equality here that need to get fixed. :/

The BL (boys love) stuff does not really count either as those are more aimed towards the female fans and the games from that particular genre tend to be mostly visual novels. But not too many have made it states side. Think we talked about this before for visual novels.

While unfortunate that things are not exactly progressive here in terms of gaming content, its how it is.

Since I remember the folks at Gaygamer visited Japan a long while back am curious if they ever did any write up in regards to what their thought was with the gaming industry from their short visit / looking through what kind of content was available. Think it was tinydancer? and Fruitbrute.

That's not an excuse not even try though. The solution to the problem isn't to avoid it, but rather to take it on. (And this isn't a situation exclusive to Japanese developers either.)

There is a market out there. This isn't aimed at you, but everytime I'm told that gamers like myself not a viable section of the market, it really pisses me off. I'm tired of it. And I feel even worse for LGBT gamers in Japan (and other regions that face similar issues) who are consistently written off as literal non-issues.

I don't want to derail this topic so I'll stop there, but I'd rather not be treated like a footnote.

People must have some pretty crappy workplaces for that to be considered NSFW. Underboob was about the most risque thing and that showed up for all of a second.

Demon Gaze had a little manservice. By the way, the game CJ mentioned (TTGH) has two gay twins in the cast, you can even get their ending.

The stuff in Demon Gaze is all treated like a joke though, right? At least that's the impression I got. That seems to always be the case anytime a dude shows skin in a game like this, it's for a laugh and/or to invoke some "look at this weirdo" reaction from the protagonist.

I've briefly read about TTGH, and I do want to give it a shot eventually. Can anyone actually speak about the depictions of those characters though from experience? (I've heard some of the other male endings can be read as mildly slashy too.) But I imagine it's mostly allusion and subtext.

Its an ongoing thing for Japan Im not talking about you being a footnote, but the actual trends of the market here. Which is different from where you live for example. Until a more independent source goes and makes a title which will show that it can be successful sales wise with an existing market, the larger companies are more than likely to not budge on the issue. The closest thing you have here are the boys love visual novel games which are tailored towards more the female fans which is those in the gay community do not feel like it is something they can support as it is not a product that is made with them in mind.

It may piss you off but its the unfortunate truth and just how it is here in Japan. Am not sure about the dojin game side of things but the main stream market past the boys love visual novels there is not going to be any sort of major change unless something is done and created then shown to be financially successful.

While your situation is coming from a social standpoint that directly affects you personally as an individual, it is still related to other fans of other genres that have been long forgotten or tossed to the side due to it not being commercially viable. Though as you have mentioned this by far effects you more personally.

There really is not much more to say on this unfortunate topic as the bottom line is it is about money with the mainline stuff and companies are not as willing to risk that on what they see as not being something that could be marketed and profits made off of.

At least the positive is the West has done a lot more to be progressive with game design that is starting to help the LGBT community feel a lot more welcome than how things were in the past. Much better focusing your energies there than being upset at a market that will not really change in the direction you and others may want. By supporting those who are doing something positive and on top of that those specific projects such as that male dating sim that you did the OT for Coming out on top, read through the thread here at GAF) and showing that there is a market existing that can be profitable only then will the giant turn its head so to speak.

Even Nintendo gave their non answer in regards to why are there no same sex partners and such I recall which was highly disappointing. That was with the Tomodachi Life game right?

I'm good, was just curious since he can apparently look at nude preteen anime girls at work

NISA seemed like the only possibility

There's no actual nudity in any of that. It's noticeably less explicit than the images in the Hellblade thread recently, although the context is less tasteful.

multiple people in this thread who played the Japanese version said they expect it to be censored, take that as you will

Well, the game is a different question: I was responding to the nsfw warning for the trailer. It's distasteful, but as far as actually jeopardizing someone's job I imagine things like bikini photos are a bigger risk.

What do you do that you can play the Vita at work, that hiding the Vita at work is only needed for these type of games?

Also, as for Demon Gaze, I have been grinding a bit on the train. As long as I am not triggering cutscenes I feel safe, otherwise the Vita is set aside until I get home. Never sure what is going to come up. Its why I am pretty happy about Operation Abyss as I heard that there is little to no fanservice. I mean if it happens, it happens, it just makes it easier playing it in public if it doesnt happen OR I know I can avoid it at that moment.

Again, I'll say the solution to this situation is not to sit by and do nothing, it's to speak up and urge companies to do something about it. I'm happy that western developers are being more progressive on this issue, it's time for other regions to step up too. We can resign ourselves to saying it's sad and unfortunate, but that's just the way it is, or we can keep pushing for change, and I'm choosing the latter.

I've always been more partial to eastern developed titles. I've supported them my whole life, but gamers like me are getting very little consideration, and that's not cool. I want to see games with Japanese styles and sensibilities being tailored towards myself and others that enjoy that type of content, and not just in the underground doujin market.

As for Tomodachi Life, Nintendo said that in future installments they would take more equal representation into consideration. Whether or not this is just something they said to save face remains to be seen, but I hope they were being earnest.

This
is the one and only instance of fanservice in Operation Abyss. Spoilers I guess?

Not the kind of game you would expect Atlus to localise, sad.

Yeah its tragic when a company localises a game that other people want but you may not, you should go out and burn them in effigy

I don't like it: it's too fanservicey (?) for me and, as a future DRPG player, I'd rather get into the genre with better titles (as art design is concerned) like Experience ones. It's a No Buy for me, I will take Lost Dimension instead.

Yeah you better stick to Experience games to avoid fanserivce
