GTA V PC Performance Thread

I have been playing with these settings the last few hours, and havent noticed any jarring points of gameplay below 60fps.

Those will be my final settings for now.

In the Nvidia control panel, i also force maximum performance for power savings, and single display performance.

wow, game looks insane with ultra foliage/grass, just spent an hour just driving around the countryside taking in the scenary

and this is at 1080p (have a 3D vision 1080p monitor)

Titan X is awesome

Had an extensive session with the game tonight, it really is a great port. Such solid performance.

Shooting with kb/m is so good. Makes the career too easy in fact.

Sorry to not reply quicker.

I most settings on max I get a pretty good 60fps. Couldn't put MSAA or TXAA or Nvidia Shadows etc on, that'd drop my FPS dramatically.

Thing is GPU usage isn't even that high. 70ish on both cards.

I'm not getting microstutter (at least with Vsync on), but I'm also not topping GPU usage. I have a single GTX780@1150MHz and it's topping out at ~70% as well. Changing most of the settings between normal and very high does little to increase minimum FPS (except grass, but who does that?) in areas like Vinewood Boulevard. MSAA+TXAA seems to make the most difference, but even then it's a ~5fps one.

My CPU's a 4670K@4.2GHz, so I suspect it's a draw calls issue? I can only dream of R* patching DX12 support in the future =/

Quick tip for anyone experiencing minor framedrops in the desert (was noticeable during Trevor's introductory mission), try lowering shadow softness. I lowered from softest to softer, and it stabilized the framerate for the most part.

Game runs like absolute shit for me on my 560ti :( Literally dropping to 1fps every 5 seconds.

I won a bet on the Madrid derby tonight so I'll pick up a new graphics card I guess. Any good deals in the UK?

Know what GAF? Just capped it to 30 FPS using RTSS, running it now @ 2560x1440 with 2xMSAA and TXAA enabled, everything on max except grass at very high.

I'm not sure why, but this game @ 30 FPS feels good. Crysis @ 30 FPS good. Probably a good motion blur implementation.

Regardless, runs rock solid, GTX 970 here, no dips, amazingly looking. I'm more than happy.

I tried using RTSS to cap the FPS myself but it doesn't really achieve the desired result to me. I wish they'd include a setting to cap the FPS that handled it to preserve the frame timing.

Nvidia? If so, try to change VSYNC to "half adaptative", see if it gets smoother.

I'm getting alright frames, but I need to experience this in its final form. If you see deals let me know!

Nooo. I have that card too

Not good man :( So disappointed. I can't turn down any more options either they are all on the lowest setting. Only thing I can do to reduce the vram below 1024 is the resolution and I'm not playing it in anything but 1080p.

What CPU do you have? I had this and it was a beast.

i5-2500k.

That card is a little too expensive for me, I'd be looking for something around £200

How do you guys think a 2500k / 4GB / 570 1.2GB PC would fare? I'm considering picking this up for my buddy but I don't know how well he'll be able to run it, if at all.

Some? All but like 3 audio files were corrupted and every single main game file and update/dlc file was corrupted. On my 3rd download of the game. This is beyond pathetic.

Arg. Sorry to hear that. :-\ I have no idea how a team as large as Rockstar didn't include some kind of internal checksum function in their downloader. In my case, my internet was cut off at some point when I was downloading. The downloader didn't complain at all when it reconnects so I assume everything was OK.

Only when I started my first mission I had CTDs because of that corrupted .rpf file. :-\

I'm getting a ton of stuttering when I drop below 60 using adaptive vsync. I thought the whole idea was to disable vsync when you get below 60 so that you don't get stuttering, no?

Isn't the "half" setting literally just Vsync at half the usual cap (so 30fps)? That's what I got when messing around with it.
Yep, that's how I understand it too. But there are proven instances where activating it, there is a noticiable smoothing in FPS. YMMV, but worth a shot I guess.

This happened to me when I just had in control with Trevor. I alt+tabbed and came back in and the framerate drop was gone without changing any settings. Weird...

God damn it, I just caved and bought this.
Sigh...

I'd cave but I know I'd just keep playing Pillars of Eternity instead lol.

Really excited to play this but I'll probably wait for a few patches and maybe a 33% off sale.

The 60fps definitely feels odd sometimes. Anybody tried slightly higher or lower? The Evil Within felt odd without capping to a slightly lower or higher rate I believe.

Well, I have a GTX 570 and 8GB of RAM with an FX-8350 and the game runs pretty well (consistent 30FPS) at 1080p with High Textures, and High-ish everything else.

Anyone else having trouble uploading their snapmatic photo's to the website? I save them to the gallery but nothing pops up at my profile on the RGSC website.

I've got about 14 hours in this game now, and I'm happy with my balance of performance and visuals. I'm on a G-Sync monitor so I don't need to stick to the 60fps. My average framerate is somewhere in between 50 - 70fps, I only really see it below 50 in those intense wooded areas.

i7 4770K @ 4.5Ghz
2x GTX 780 SLI (OC, but still currently experimenting to see how far I can push it).
16GB RAM
Game installed on an Intel 730 240GB SSD.
G-Sync (1080p, 144Hz).

I just messed primarily with those sliders that likely were more costly on the CPU until I increased GPU utilisation to a good enough degree (as an indication I wasn't being bottlenecked as much), stopped decreasing when I was either happy with GPU utilisation or reducing the settings stopped increasing the GPU utilisation. I think it's possibly a reasonable way to get the most out of your GPUs, to reduce the bottleneck incurred by the CPU heavy settings (those distance sliders, for example). I can actually probably squeeze more out of things like population density, but I don't really want to spend anymore time on that at the moment, my available time to play is coming to an end quickly, so I want to play it :p

I haven't had any real issues in regards to stability or consistently, I get nice smooth frames, don't get the hitching that some people have complained about. The only odd thing is that on about 4 or 5 occasions so far (in the 14 hours of gameplay), usually when exiting a cutscene or building, framerate momentarily nosedives, I assume when it is just struggling to load something in. But it's not a significant issue at all, it hasn't happened in any actual gameplay and it lasts for 5 or 6 seconds at most.

Same here, not POE, but I bought it on 360 and double dipped on PS4 so I can't bring myself to pay £30 to play it again even know I cannot wait to get my hands on a 60fps/m+k version of it. Not sure how it'll run with 2 660's either.

Dropped the shadow settings a bunch (a shame but whatever) and dialed back the population density just a tad and can blitz around Los Santos at 60fps now. Also cranked my 2500k up to 4ghz but I was still getting drops to 50 or so driving around when I did that.

MSI 970
2500k
8GB RAM

Not a PERFECT 60 when driving but its half a second of 58/59fps. On one hand I'm kind of disappointed because I see others saying they're getting 60 with nearly everything cranked up on pretty much the same build... on the other, still looks great and runs brilliantly so I'm happy!

Haha I'm still playing Pillars too, but I chased the 4K 60fps GTAV Dragon last night and it still eludes me. So I will be playing both in the near future.

Hi everybody.

I'm running the game on a 560ti with 8gb ram and an i7. I've got it on 1920x1080 with everything on normal, great performance so far (1st hr of the game).

So I turned on high quality textures, and the little bar shot up into the red and it gave me the warning that it's too high, but I've disabled the warning and didn't notice any performance hit.

Does anybody have an idea of what kind of performance hit I'll see by increasing texture quality above recommended... Is it just longer loads? I'd be totally ok with that.

So I'm still like 600mb over on their bar thing at the top of the options page... but the in game benchmark tool has me at like 80 to 100 fps for the majority of the time, only dropping down to 60 during the explosion at the end.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? It's an old video but I get basically the same thing without the stutter. It's basically horrible pop in and no matter what setting I change it doesn't fix it.

Why is that..if I go over the memory limit and up some stuff I get up to 100 FPS? Sure it doesn't stay there its usually 78. But doesn't dip below 60 anymore.

Whereas I go less and it maxes at 68 bit dips down to 48.

I am honestly surprised with how well my aging 760 can run this. Playing GTA Online with no input lag and an almost constant 60 FPS is a godsend. However, I'm looking to possibly upgrade next month. Should I go for the 970 or 980? 980 is definitely as much as I'm willing to spend on a GPU at this point in time.

Do you have the game installed to a Hard Drive? Looks like some of the streaming issues that the 360/Digital versions had due to limits of streaming info on a HDD.

So I get either 60 (95% of the time) or 30fps, and never anything in between. Happens randomly, and only for a second, until later when I have played for some time and it stays at 30 a bit longer.

What's happening on screen doesn't seem to be the cause. Sometimes it even sinks as low as 15 when I'm respawning at the hospital after being killed.

I don't get it.

Edit: I changed my settings a few hours ago, before that it was either 45 or 15

Please explain

If you have a bunch of devices in Devices and Printers the Launcher will try to load them all and since there will be a ton of conflicts the game will not load and just crash. Over and over and over. If Rockstar bothered to test it they could have alleviated the issue by having it specifically only use one Keyboard/Mouse and one controller (which should be defaulted to looking for a PS4/360/XOne controller) and disregard the rest it wouldn't be an issue and the game would load and play like it should normally. Instead, since they didn't code the game to do that, it will load all of them and boom, crash.
