the gawd. owns the hearts and minds of everybody at this point

This movie is a sequel to Return of the Jedi. It takes place 30 to 35 years afterward. The first teaser came out about 4 months ago. It's been a thing for a while now.
Well there you go. No wonder the hostility in the thread then. Sorry dudes.
Edit:

Super excited to see a sequel. Exciting to see new stuff as it provides a blank slate for new creative minds.

I do think the way this film is being edited is going to lead to a really interesting score from him. I've been told the last time he was allowed to do a score like this (over a period of months, scenes at a time) it was Hook. Now, Hook turned out to be one of Spielberg's worst films, but that score is one of Williams' best.

I'm hoping his being allowed a longer time to compose themes, and the knowledge that the scenes he's scoring are going to stay relatively intact as opposed to hacked up and shoved around like all the prequel scores were, will translate into some golden-era Williams music.

More because how the hell could you think the early 20s Daisy Ridley was Princess Leia when the old man Han Solo is in the trailer.

Did you think it was a time travel movie about Princess Leia traveling the future? How did you not instantly assume it was after Jedi when it had an older Han Solo?

If John Williams is the composer for a Film, I will be the farm that the music will be memorable.

He truly is the greatest composer in the history of film. There is no if ands or buts about it. Kanye stfu this man is the real "Musical Genius!"

Ok found some videos and looked at the origin of characters and have to say that the Star Wars story is amazing it's very straight forward and I think it's awesome for having prequels that shed more light on the characters and I have enjoyed and loved every Star Wars movie.

I quit assuming about movies after the third terminator.

Do I Star Wars? If that is a question whether I have seen all of the Star Wars movies time and time again then yes... I have seen them but this is the first I have seen anything of the new movie. I actually have no idea what they are going for here. Is this Star Wars after Jedi returns.
This is a prequel to the prequels. It is about how the Force came to be, hence the title. The reason you see a 70 year old Han Solo is because of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. The Millenium Falcon has become a TARDIS in the future, allowing it to travel back in time to when the Force Awakens.

I can buy into this.

She had some hard times. And depending on what happened in the 30 year gap, I could still see her as a battle-hardened Jedi princess.

Oh I know. Im sure movie magic will make her look somewhat decent. But man she was a fucking Godess!!! Remember her from SW and also I remember her stint in the movie "Soap" with RDJ, she looked SOOO HOT!

You know what is mind blowing to me? Two of our new main trio. Our main trio of adult heroes....are both younger than Jake Llyod who played little kid Anakin.

Time flies.

Can ya'll please stop picking on Carrie as if you didn't know people get old? Damn.

I love Carrie. She's always the Princess to me.

Aye, but like I said... hard times. Just the fact that nearly ALL the main characters are back in this, and that it's not just a idea, but a thing that has been filmed and is in post-production... It's a good time to be a Star Wars fan.

I was kind of thinking about how young Daisy is and that Natalie Portman is in her 30's and a mom. Shit, I'm getting old.

Yeah, I watched this little interview the 3 did and they talk about being 90's babies and joke about Oscar Isaac being old.

Oscar Isaac being born in the 80's is now able to be deemed the "old man" of the trio now like Ford was in the original trilogy. That is so bizarre to witness.

Absolutely. I think its what we all wanted back in 1999 if we are being honest with each other. We didn't want the prequels we wanted the gang back on screen. We all grew up with Luke, Han and Leia.

I still can't wrap my head around the idea that I will see Luke wield a light saber once more, or that I will see Han sitting in the Falcon with Chewie by his side.. Maybe scruffy looking will make a cameo.

THE FUCKING FEEEEEELS!

They should put him in is a throwaway character just for the irony. Maybe like a bartender or something. If Stan Lee can constantly get into the movies based on his work, why not him?

Daisy Ridley, she's the co-lead

yea I was familiar with her role, just never bothered to catch her name. ty

That's a terrible idea. Seriously? Comparing some shitty actor kid to Stan Lee is like a Tolkien sized troll.

Was the script that was leaked (i think) been discarded since then? is that not the original premise made by George Lucas or was something else?

Don't read unless you want to feel old.

Yoda is now 909 years old. He was only 874 in Empire Strikes Back.

Remake the prequels Disney, please. Erase them from canon and from my memory, forever...

uh, i remember a huge thread about that, but not surprise that was false.

still, im hoping we learn someday about the story ideas from George Lucas that were thrown away by Disney.

My guess is more plot contrivances, more shit dialogue, and more CGI aliens based on racial stereotypes.

Eh...the one thing Lucas did brilliantly was story concept generation.

He needs to be kept away from the script and from behind the camera, of course, as well as paired with a strong producer to keep him in check, but the storyboards were where he shined.
