I watched Empire last night and I swear if clips of Han and Leia were released online today, they would be slammed for bad acting and writing. And since Han is shown flirting with a woman of high stature I'm sure Joss Whedon would have a field day with it too.
I watched the OT on bluray recently. I've lost my nostalgia for them and, as films, they didn't really hold up for me. I would not be surprised if TFA is a better movie than all previous movies

I know what you mean, I think recently, I am much more critical of the OT than I was as a kid. Nostalgia plays a huge factor in my love for Star Wars, but I do truly love so much of the lore and the universe as a whole.
I was watching the panel and saw John Boyega admit that his character is a Stormtrooper. JJ didn't seem happy. Was that a genuine slip or was JJ having fun with the audience?
Found this while surfing Youtube; it's basically the teaser re-visualized as a trailer on an old VHS, complete with old Lucasfilm logo and 4:3 aspect ratio.
The tracking effect is a bit overdone at times, but it really cements the cinematography as belonging to that era, especially when it comes to that very first shot, which I never thought I could love even more until I saw it reinterpreted in this manner.

I wonder what give it away? The fact that ALL THE FOOTAGE IS OF HIM AS A STORMTROOPER.

Well, they did have bad acting and writing. Also, something tells me you have a distorted view of feminism.
Well, since Joss' complaint was about 70s era sexism and Empire was made in '79, he'd be right on the money!
It was a jab at Whedon's jab at the Jurassic World clip where he complained about a rogue-ish guy flirting with a girl of high stature, claiming it was some kind of unacceptable sexist scene.
huh? was he serious when he said that?
That sound when the X-wings passes by makes me feel soooo good. The sabers swinging, blasters blasting..force powers being used...man this movie is going to have such a satisfying audio experience.

It's okay because it was in the 70's lol
The sights and sounds of these movies have always been incredible. I'm so excited that within the next year we will be able to afford some expensive audio and video equipment for our home theater... mainly because of Star Wars.
With the tracking effect toned down a lot, this would be perfect. VHS isn't THAT bad haha

Yup, your views on the subject are about where I suspected. Joss was right about that scene in Jurrasic World. It's super disappointing and feels stuck in 70s era gender politics, of which Star Wars was very much a part. Thankfully, there's a little thing called progress.
I don't know what the hell you two are talking about the OT holds up REALLY well today. I watch the OT at least once a year and nostalgia has nothing to do with my enjoyment of those movies since I watched them for the first time when I was in my late teens after having watched all the prequels. Empire, for example, is just the perfect movie and I think personally the finest movie ever made. I'm surprised every time I re-watch the movies at just how well the hold up.
a BIT you say?????
that shit is up every 2-3 seconds
whoever made that edit is a pig fucker
At the very least TFA will look much better than the prequels. Check out that art design. They have that shit nailed.

Totally agree. I wasn't even born when the OT was released so nostalgia isn't a factor for me at all. Empire's my favourite film.

I didn't say they don't hold up. They hold up in a number of ways. I just never thought the acting and dialogue were anything superlative, but they didn't really need to be.
Still, despite all of that I think they are some of the finest movies ever made.

So guys can't flirt with girls in movies anymore? Educate me on how this is suddenly some kind of new and horrible, reprehensible thing. I love and appreciate women but the thing is that the girls in both of these scenes are also attracted to the guys. It isn't painting women in some kind of bad or immature light. It's typical human nature.
...and I'm too busy wishing this clip wasn't 70's era sexist. She's a stiff, he's a life-force - really? Still?
And yet I always feel bad for that storm trooper who shot into the air lol. I didn't think he survived that![]()
Uhh, I disagree that it's a different voice saying "My sister has it". That's definitely Hamill's voice.
Anyone else notice that 95% of the shots of Finn so far have him breathing realllly heavily lol
