Thief!

This is the most insane thing I've read in this thread. I honestly cannot believe someone could possibly be so ignorant of current events and a topic that has had so much attention both on here and in the news.

Honestly, though, what current events are so bad as to need protesting?

- The South Carolina cop was arrested and charged.
- Michael Brown attacked Darren Wilson, Wilson was just defending himself.
- Eric Garner was more of an accident brought about by a health condition and him resisting arrest.

There's no sign that any of these events were racially motivated either. I mean look at the Trayvon Martin case -- the only person to use a racial slur that night was Trayvon Martin but the media tried to paint George Zimmerman as the racist.

Or how about the fact that a black Kentucky basketball player said "F*** that N*gger" about a white Wisconsin player on national television and received no punishment whatsoever.

Meanwhile, a white baseball player that referred to Mo'ne Davis as a "slut" on Twitter was thrown off his baseball team and kicked out of school.

Or what about the story about the hospital wanting to deny the black kid a new heart due to his history and the media played the race card until the hospital gave the kid a new heart and the kid went on to rob and murder and get himself killed within two years.

Why are we not talking about these things?

If this post is serious, holy shit.

Holy fuck are you serious? You should really stop when your behind, because he have no FUCKING clue as to what your talking about.

Travon Martin what the racist? are you kidding me?

Really? I'm not because I'm not sure what they were protesting. It's not clear.

I definitely support their right to do it 100% though.

They seem to be protesting black lives and getting wrongly treated by police officers. Now walking over a flag to rectify this? Not gonna do much lol.

What in the world is this post?

I'm not saying there's no racism.

All I'm wondering is why has the mission statement of "Let's not judge by the color of our skin but by the content of our character" been thrown out the window?

Why are we playing with two sets of rules?

Is Cracker a term of endearment?

Look you ridiculous troll. Travon Martin is dead because he was talking while black. Goerge Zimmerman would have have never stopped and confronted him he he was just some white kid walking back home with a bag of ice tea and skittles. That's the fucking point.

Some one kid is dead for the crime of being black in the wrong neighborhood. Do you get that? A mother and father had to bury their son because of a crazy vigilante with a history of violent acts. And Trayvon Martin's killer is walking around because he Trayvon was painted as dangerous black thug.

What the fuck us wrong with you?

You lost all credibility saying Eric garner died because of his health and resisting arrest. It's clear you have a skewed and bizarre perspective on this discussion.

Well, all the black people you talk about in your post are dead. Something to consider.

No your saying excactly that. Your using the deaths of unarmed black people you display you ignorance and make light of their deaths,.

Because you're taking away their speech, literally, by taking the thing they 1) own and 2) the medium are using to communicate their idea.

You can't take a Westboro church member's sign from them. You can't take a Greenpeace member's guitar away from them. You can't take a Black Panther's car to keep them from getting to a rally and you can't jam a Republican radio station to keep people from listening to it.

A lot of people seem to forget that you can't say "free speech" but then ignore the fact that you actually have to allow speech you do not like in the public space. The flag isn't a holy object (which is why I prefer to say "destroy a flag", not "desecrate") nor a metaphor for a human body. It represents the US government, quite literally, with all of the symbols on it standing for 63 government bodies.

You can even be super patriotic and burn a flag! You can say the government is letting everyone down and demonstrate they are burning the country down by burning the flag. There's a whole host of reasons you can burn a flag and they all make sense. Even Penn and Teller have a patriotic skit centered around burning a flag.

The only time you shouldn't be allowed to burn or stomp a US flag is if it isn't your flag that you own. Because at that point you're forcing the owner of that flag's speech to something they don't want to say.

Well said

So why was George Zimmerman so busted up and Trayvon had no marks on him but one bullet wound?

Its pretty clear Trayvon attacked George and George was only defending himself isn't it?

Everything else you posted is purely from your own imagination. No facts to support it.

No, you're twisting my words around in an attempt to silence me just like we discussed in the SJW bullies thread.

I'll no longer respond to you because you are ether

A. Trolling in an attempt to rile people up on race issues
B. So completely ignorant of the actually issues your talking and just wont back down.
or
C. all of the above.

Ether way you are not worth my time.

Somebody is ready to get its high fives back in reddit.

not before he makes a thread about his "valiant account suicide" first.
bet no one notices. here I mean, or there.

edit: who are we kidding, they have nothing to do over there but talk about what's going on over here. he'll probably get a kiss on the lips from dillinger himself.

I think flags should be destroyed once they hit the ground. As long as they don't hang it back up after it has touched the ground. I think some forms of flag hate makes us look like our own enemies because they do the same thing. They burn our flag with a picture of our president. I don't want to be part of that, so I tend to not do any of this.

We aren't free in this world unless we fight for it. There's plenty of people out there who want to destroy America.

You know I saw a lot of articles recently about the black/white wealth gap recently like this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/12/racial-wealth-gap_n_6317202.html

But they don't even mention, Arabs, Asians, Indians, ect. I feel strong pity for those groups in America. They come here, they bust their ass, they don't do too much crime and they aren't even a part of the discussion!

There's a very noticeable campaign to cast black actors for hero movies or create black heroes but what about casting asians or arabs?

Why do we have such radically different standards?

It sounds like your position is that there's a double standard in how incidents are reported with a heavy bias in favor of minorities due to what you perceive is a tendency to overcorrect to make up for a history rife with racism. In your view, this results in white people being targeted and deemed guilty for "lesser" offences by "mob justice" while minorities and women are given a free pass to make "controversial" remarks with minimal backlash. Is that the gist of it?

While it's true that there is an incredible lack of representation for all of those groups, the difference is that they don't have the same history as blacks do in America. You have to remember that black people were enslaved, viewed as subhuman, beaten, raped, murdered, denied their voting rights, denied the right to bear arms, kept segregated, and have been very negatively depicted in media for decades.

Edit: Welp. I would have liked some sort of conversation to see if I could get to the root of it, but they're banned now.

As a Marine Corps veteran myself, I'm fine with people walking on the flag. They can wipe their ass with it, that's what freedom is. There are tons of things I don't like, but if they are constitutionally protected, I will fight for you to do it.

On the other hand, not surprised someone from the Chair Force wants to try to be a bad ass. (inter-service sarcasm)

Why do we have such radically different standards?

why are you begging the question so hard? If you have a different set of standards, say so, but claiming that attention to one problem makes everyone ignore other problems is an assertion that you're going to have to show some supporting facts for, or you're going to have to eat your words.

At my work, vets will notify us if our flag on the pole is looking tattered and ask us to replace it. When I used to take it down and put it up for the day, we had to make sure it didn't touch the ground or else we'd have to get a new one I guess, it never touched the ground on my watch. And we had to fold it properly too.

I think this story pretty funny myself as an USAF vet, this is not the first time Manhart has been on the news and the focus of controversy. She is making a big stink about people disrespecting the flag, yet she was basically pushed out of the military for disrespecting the USAF and little mention is made of that.

It's a crime to impersonate a soldier. It's downright offensive because they are trying to be someone they aren't, but I can see how some people are against the mistreatment of the flag in that regard. It represents symbolism and meaning to some people. If you fought to raise the flag in another country then it probably means more than the person doing it at a college. Outside of combat it's full of political and ethical debates that really have no meaning to the pain of war. Nothing can make up for that loss.

See, now that I know a little bit more about this woman, I suddenly want to work things out with her. We just need to have a conversation and come to an understanding. I'm sure she's capable of being perfectly reasonable, and I feel like her heart is in the right place, like somewhere in her chest.

Sorry for the double post, just saw this.

When I was deployed, I didn't fight for any nebulous reasons like freedom or God or country or even a flag. I fought for the people to the left and the right of me. I went 110% everyday to make sure they made it home and hoped they did the same for me.

It doesn't help that the same politicians that drape themselves in the flag use it to hide the fact that they are stripping away freedoms everyday, but that's another discussion for another time.

Good, people get way too worked up over some symbol.

well yeah, it's not her flag so she shouldn't steal it

flag worship is fucking stupid. it's just a piece of cloth with some dumb pattern.

A just arrest for the theft of an item.
There is little to be concerned about regarding the club's activities. The flag is nothing more than a piece of cloth manufactured in (most likely) a foreign land. The ideals of the country do not fade away with its desecration, and I would expect more discipline from one who is expected to defend the country.

The flag is not simply a material item, at least not in most people's perception. It's a symbol, it holds meaning outside of its material self. The meanings and feelings that symbols possess can be quite extraordinary. We can't see a man clad in white robes and hood or a burning cross in someone's yard without immediately feeling the extreme hatred associated with those symbols. After all, they're simply clothing and some wood on fire but in our minds they become so much more. What do you immediate think of when you see a swastika?

On the other end of the spectrum, the American flag in many people's eyes is more than colorful cloth. It's a physical representation of all our accomplishments and pride as Americans. Degradation of that symbol is taken as an insult to all men and women who've strived to bring the country to where it is today or simply anyone who might have love for their nation.

Now to the matter at hand, was it legal for the service woman to confiscate the flag? The answer is plainly "No". That someone who served would become irate after seeing such an act is not only understandable but in fact it was the sole reason for them performing such an act! I find it hard to believe that this would be any kind of news worthy. "Someone was childishly provoked and took the bait, news at eleven"!

Yeah and thats the problem, people care way too much about the flag as a symbol. I pretty much just dislike nationalism, because it brings out terrible things in people.

I like how you say confiscate the flag instead of you know ... steal.
