Any tips for Rom? Most tips I see basically say USE TONITRUS. I'm out of shards tho :(.

Hard hitting weapon (ludwig's)
> run to Rom, avoid spiders and hit him 1-2 times (L2) (don't use lockon at all!!) > roll/dodge out immidiately. Look for another opening between his spider buddies and repeat. When he uses his other defences, get in and do only 1 hit before bailing. You should do around 300-500 dmg with an L2 hit.
You sometimes get hit by a spider but it should not kill you. Keep moving all the time.

A complete other strategy(i have read here), which takes waaaaay more time, is killing all his buddies and then hit him. But he's spawning new buddies every time he teleports after heavy hits (around 4-5 time in a fight) so this can take a while. Also killing all his buddies while avoiding his constant meteors is not funny.

Got summoned for Rom around 20-30 times and the way i do it is still the best way for me. Bolt paper helps.

I used Bolt paper with my Hunters Axe. Worked just as well. Kill all the spiders in the first segment since Rom doesn't attack. Then go hit him as much as possible. When he reappears, stay close in so he won't use his bomb attack. Get hits in on him while avoiding the spiders. If the spiders are around, just get a couple hits and get out of there. Don't be greedy. Repeat for the 3rd part of the fight and he should be dead after that. The key is to stay in close for the 2nd and 3rd parts of the fight and make sure to roll away from the spiders and if you see him roll on his back, roll out of the area to avoid the bombs that come out of the ground.

Recommended level / progress for an average joe to start going through chalices?

First one can be done around lvl30-40.
Basicly as soon as you get the first chalice.
I'd do them along side your playtrough, keeps it somewhat challenging and you get tons of consumeables in them.

Lvl 104 in Lower Pthumeru Labyrinth Lvl 3 trying to kill Rom and looking for help. Anyone around?

The problem with co-oping in chalice dungeons is in order to co-op you have to have the same exact chalice code and be at the same part in the dungeon. So basically someone would have to get your code and beat the bosses up to Rom to help you. Which would be a bit time consuming.

He's more easy than story version. Use pillars to block Rom air AOE. Bait and kill the small spiders. Should only take 1-3 hits from the side and back. Once it's clear, kick Rom's ass and repeat.

Defiled Chalice layer 2 boss is the stuff of nightmares, it makes me feel like a fool for ever thinking something like Father G was hard when I started this game. Git Gud indeed.

Hmm, that's what I was thinking actually except I'm rushing as I have to go to work. :/ Ill farm some more vials and try again later. Thanks!!

I'm really not a fan of how complex trying to co-op the Chalices is. Makes it way less fun, especially if you want to dungeon crawl Roots with your friends. Thanks though. I'll stop asking at this point. :(

This is such a waste of time IMO and I don't know why people insist on doing it (not calling you out Donos, just saying in general).
The time you spend killing those spiders could be spent hacking at Rom. Rom and other spiders are still attacking you either way. Strafe around Rom avoiding attacks as you can and as soon as you see a clear path to him (assuming he isn't about to do his AOE) run in, attack, then run out. I like circling him because some of his spiders get caught on the other side leaving you some space to move.

You can't ignore the little spiders, like in the story version, because it's an enclose area. Rom and the little spiders are too bunched up. And, with more added each time, you are going to have to be very lucky to try using the attack Rom only strategy.

Only time you should kill his minions is during the first phase, before he starts spamming his homing missiles. This lets you set up to hit him as hard as possible for a ton of free damage.

After that, though, you really should be ignoring the spiders unless for some reason you find dodging them to be harder than dodging his missiles.

I pity the fool who doesn't kill first phase minies then use a beast blood pellet (which they give you a billion of in Forbidden Woods).

Ugh, I'm taking a break D:

Rom down on 1st attempt 8). Very easy. Used lots of Vials but at no point was i ever in danger, used just for top ups.......

I'm on this guy now. What an asshole. Having a lot of trouble finding the parry timing, and it's causing a lot of death. Once I figure it out he's toast though.

Well damn, I must be super over leveled for the defile chalice. Im 135 with 40 vit. I did the entire first floor, including boss, with out a single death. Hopefully Mr woof woof gives me more of a challenge :P. I just need chalice trophy and 2 more endings.

Also, holy crap, the burial blade at +10 is fkn awesome. I don't like the 2h move set too much, but 1h, its amazing. I still use my axe for certain situations, but Im really liking the burial blade.

Yeah, this too. I think he's easier to parry during his second phase, tho.
During his first phase, I just dodge and attack.

Hummmm should I trust you?? Lol the world of Bloodborne is cruel!!!

Haha, well I'm doing the dungeons in NG+ so there's that xD
Besides, the dungeons which were created in NG stay in NG+.
So yeah, I don't want to trick you or anything, my bf who is still in NG is also doing the dungeons and the difficulty looks the same.

First chalice is intended for level 30 or something, so yeah you could say you're a bit high. don't worry it will get harder :D

After work I plan to unlock the platinum trophy. One more boss then I face
Yarnham, Pthumerian Queen
and then the true ending. Just 2 trophies to go. I swear it feels like I spent more time in the last 2 dungeons than the main game. These chalice dungeon bosses are no joke. Amazing game though I absolutely love every minute of it.

I beat him on my second try, I went into the fight blind and without any fire paper or anything, and got wiped by his big charge attack. The second time I beat him easy.

. Trying to decide what to do before venturing on other than getting the final weapon upgrade. I beat all the optional bosses minus the chalices at this point. I am level 104 or so and wondering. How hard is NG+?

Once you reach the soft cap for skill is it worth still putting points into the stat or should I just switch to strength? I use Ludwig's Sword and the Threaded Cane. I think I'm currently at 26 skill and 17 or 18 strength.

There are people who don't kill the spiders during Rom's first phase? You are doing it wrong! You can go to town on him if you kill those spiders, basically leaving him with only 30% HP of his HP bar.

My game just became all black as I entered some kind of cutscene above the Mergo's Loft: Base lamp post. Is that a known bug or something? What do I do now? :/

Edit: Eh, just restarted and it fixed itself. Cool cutscene too, creepy.

I was wondering about the Arcane Base Gems like Bolt and Fire....are they really worth putting in and when they are used does the other characteristics like Blunt, Attack and thrust go away or they figured in some how? I'm still a little fuzzy on is just arcane type damage applied or buffed in some way?

I'm using the Axe and Holy Blade along with the Tonitrus

ROM IS A FILTHY WHORE IN CHALICE.

You can use the pillars to block his ice shards attack and the spider adds are more aggressive, less organized, they usually don't defend Rom like they do in story mode....found him easier in chalice overall.

EDIT: Clarification.

I never touched the Spider's at all....Just circled round Rom looking for a clean run into his side, pound him a few times then back away, rinse and repeat.

At lvl 104, I think you'll be pretty okay. At first, you'll be surprised by how much damage you take, but really, I don't find NG+ that hard.
The last Chalice Dungeons, on the other hand... ugh.

Welp. About to go into endgame.
Nightmare of Mensis
, then whatever else is left. I wonder how these later bosses compare to the rest.

Wish me luck, folks.

oh man, everybody says its way hard. More than one person said they couldn't beat the cleric beast ha! sounds nuts, I'd watch some youtube first.

Not hard at all. All bosses went down on the first or second try for me.
They just hit hard and have a lot of health, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Any tips for Rom? Most tips I see basically say USE TONITRUS. I'm out of shards tho :(.

My strategy :
This worked best for me both in the main game and the chalice dungeon fight. Using either Tonitrus or my whip can with bolt paper, I start out by killing the 1st wave of little spiders. This is the only batch of minions I clear out because in this first stage clearing them allows you the time and space to get in some heavy charged attacks without Rom aggro'ing on you. I can get in 2 or 3 R2 hits and then when he starts to teleport I try to get in a few quick hits. Once he teleports and starts with the magic attacks I disregard the minions and just run towards him, dodging towards/away depending on his attacks. Once I have an opening I dodge to his side and get in as many swings as I can before he teleports. Repeat.

This sounds fun... I think this is how I'll roll in my NG+.

I didn't kill any
minions on Rom
, just dodge rolled, fire papered, stick and move.

Worked 2nd time.
